Okay so I'm jumping into this discussion in the middle and I have not read all 5 pages to please excuse and repetition.
I do not want a "twitch" account neither do I want my MC Forum account linked to one, I just want to have my normal basic standard Forum account. If I don't merge my account will it disappear because if it will I'll go somewhere else like planet minecraft.
I know what you're going to say "You don't need to use your twitch account, you just need to have it." while this is true I would rather not get a "twitch" account. I don't even know what "twitch" is!

Not happening. Unless you can find a great second-hand one, even $600-$800 laptops usually don't even dedicated GPUs, and you'll probably need that if you want decent FPS at reasonable settings. The Acer Nitro 5 is good for a budget option and sports some very respectable hardware, but yeah, it's $800.

Maybe, but it seems quite prevalent among the less tech-savvy community, I've seen many an old laptop with Windows 10. But there are tech people who like it too.

I like Windows 7, I feel like everyone likes Windows 10, I don't; it looks drab and austere, it also seems to crash more often.

Both, but I mostly use my desktop. I like desktops better because of their versatility, the only nice thing about laptops is their portability which I rarely have occasion to take advantage of.

You'll need a graphics card.

When I type "localhost" in the direct connect box it gives me this:

I got it to work, but now I have a few ore questions, when my friend tries to join the server from his house (using my external IP) he gets the same error but nothing shows up in the server log.
How do I host a pre-existent world as the server?
How do I turn cheats on?

I want to host a server for me and my friends, I plan to run it on my laptop and play it on my desktop computer. I ran the server and everything looked good, I had both computers connected to my offline test network. I typed in the IP address of the other computer into the "Direct Connect" box But when I tried to join it (after taking a very long time) it said "The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance." and the server log said: "[12:16:17 INFO]: [email protected][id=<null>,name=Computernaut, properties={},legacy=false] (/192.168.0.104:49179) lost connection: Disconnected". I tried this both ways first with the desktop computer running the server and then with the laptop running it, it still didn't work.

I was told the voltage wasn't too much of an issue due to the fact that laptops are quite resilient to differing voltages because of their use of batteries which decrease in voltage as they are used up. I was most concerned with the difference in amps. But you know more about it than me so I'll just not turn it on. I guess now I'll have to buy a charger for it.

I have a Dell Precision M4500, it came with no charger or battery, I have a different charger that fits and that a use to run the laptop, the only problem is that it has a lower power delivery. A real M4500 charger has an output of 19.5V 6.7A and 130W, the one I'm using has an output of 18.5V 6.5A and 120W. Would it be okay to try Minecraft on this?

That graphics card is the the minimum for a decent shaders experience, but if you all ready have it then go for it.
0
Maybe just barely, but if your considering buying one for playing Minecraft don't, if you have it already, then go ahead and try.

It might have something to do with the fact that if you were moving something and got teleported to the nether, you might lose whatever you were moving.

I didn't use the "Wipe free space" function, I used the "Drive wiper" tool to completely wipe the hard-drive and then created a new back-up, this process however can take literally all day.

I've tried "Disk Cleanup" and it does absolutely nothing, I wipe the drive with CCleaner when it gets really bad but that's annoying and takes a long time.
