Oh really? Explain the caves, trees, the moon cycle, and physics. You need to stop being a hypocrite.

    A. You obviously don't know what a hypocrite is.
    B. Most games are at least somewhat grounded in reality so we have a basic understanding of whats going on. That doesn't make the game realistic. Minecraft is not realistic. Zombies and skeletons are unrealistic. Punching trees to get wood is unrealistic. Removing a block of wood from a tree and not having it fall is not realistic. Trying to force realism on an unrealistic game is stupid. In that case let's remove diamond weapons and armor, zombies, skeletons, the nether, ghasts, blazes, slimes, pigmen, magma cubes, the end, enderman, the enderdragon, redstone, villagers, and squids with teeth. Realism is not a good argument for the addition or removal of material to an unrealistic game.

    Quote from jeffw

Do you realize that lightning is very rare? Even if it did strike sand, there would be very very few glass found in sand.

So, what you're essentially saying is this suggestion is even more pointless than it was before? So now, its not only unnecessary, it's useless. Great. So you are saying that is merely for aesthetics? In that case, I personally think weird one block deposits of glass dotting deserts and beaches would be hideous.

    Quote from jeffw

    That's not the point.

    Then what is the point?

    Quote from jeffw

Nobody ever said it would be a 1m3 glass block.

Notch has confirmed that the blocks in Minecraft are 1m3.

    Quote from jeffw

So what? The clouds are useless, and so is the rain. Hmm, why don't we remove EVERYTHING pointless from the game? Then let's see how MC will be.

Those add aesthetics and atmosphere. This add ugly scarring of the landscape for absolutely no reason.

Because he mentioned there would be a speed cap, simply having too maxed out pigs would eliminate the argument completely.

It's a good idea, but I think the baby shouldn't always inherent the best genetics. If that were the case, then mindless breeding would always result in a maxed out animal.

@The first point: Or post-modern. Where humanity has been gone for centuries, and nature has re-claimed the world.

@The second point: Yeah, there are a bunch of features in BTW that I'd like to see in VMC, but not necessarily everything. Don't see it happening, though because the maker of the mod has a definite vision for it and Mojang would likely stray from it.

    1. Same point. Too far away from modern civilization to introduce "nano blades" and "quantum armor" and all the stupid, overpowered stuff that Tekkit adds. It just strays to much from the current theme of Minecraft.

    2. Obviously not exactly like the mod, but adding mechanical power and water wheels and such over wires and nuclear reactors was my point.

Minecraft is meant to be an open world Sandbox according to Mojang, they never said Medieval. The game may have some Medieval themes but the game also has a lot of different themes, supernatural & technological (looking at redstone) are a few that come to mind. I hate cliche expressions to but, the don't like it, don't use it once again comes into effect. As long as it follows the theme of minecraft (aka explore and do whatever) then I see no problem on why it should be added.

Yes, there is no defined period. But the fact that they added redstone instead of electric wires, or the fact that we use bows instead of guns, etc indicate a pre-modern time period.

Anyway, no support at all. I have never liked Tekkit. The whole thing is an overly modern eyesore that breaks the game and makes everything far too easy. If you want an industry and automation mod, look to Better than Wolves. It fits in Minecraft, and uses creative ways to advance technologically without breaking the game or breaking the atmosphere like Tekkit does.

posted a message on Dyed Leather Armour - graphics need adjustments
I agree. It makes the character look like a football player. The buttons and lack of shine already distinguish it from other armors.

Adding the ability to dye it would absolutely ruin the whole purpose of the addition, which is that texture pack creators can control which part of their armors they want dyeable, if they want them dyeable at all. This serves no purpose in the default texture pack though, and as such should just be left blank. That way, the default textures aren't messed up and the texture pack creators still have the second layer to use for their needs.

posted a message on Industrial minecraft vs. Enchanting
If anything, Minecraft shouldn't go in the direction of Industrial Craft. Electricity, nuclear reactors, nano swords, and mining lasers don't fit the game in my opinion. It should go towards the Better than Wolves direction, automation that fits into the style of Minecraft, and also blends the magic and industry sides of Minecraft.

posted a message on REDSTONE SWORD (sounds Stupid? well.....)
Nah. Not only is the ideas presentation unappealing because of your aggressive attitude towards negative feedback, but I don't think this is a good fit for the current style of Minecraft. First of all, creating weapons with special abilities is the purpose of enchanting, so the idea as a whole doesn't really work. Redstone is too common, so this would be overpowered and incredibly easy to get. And finally, redstone's purpose is circuit design, not adding new enchantments to weapons through crafting.

I assume by how much they slow you down that they are very thick, so I would say that trying to clear them with your fists would just get them tangled. You need something sharp, like a sword I guess.

posted a message on Swap Obsidian and Gold in tools
    Quote from Spaceboot1

Um, if you know how to make an obsidian generator, can you post a link to some instructions? Because I honestly didn't know it was possible. I would find that quite useful.

I believe you about the part where gold is denser than iron. What I'm not sold on is the idea that therefore gold tools are faster than iron tools. Like I said before, I am willing to suspend disbelief in the name of fun gameplay, so all of this is essentially wankery. But if gold is denser, and we're talking about let's say, swinging a gold pickaxe, then a gold pickaxe would be heavier than an iron pickaxe, and thus it would require more energy to swing, and each swing would be slower. You would be able to put more energy into each swing, but they would take longer.

If you lightened/shrunk the gold pickaxe to compensate, making it light enough to swing quickly, then you've basically taken away your density advantage.

I didn't mean faster as in faster swing speed, I meant faster as in it smashes things faster. Overall its a little stretch, but you get the idea. It makes sense were gold is placed and changing it is unnecessary.
Also, apparently I was wrong. I thought they had added an infinite lava source to the game... oh well. Doesn't change the fact that you don't really need to search for it. Its like if gold was found in huge pockets but took a while to break. The tools would still be overpowered because of how easily you can acquire large amounts of them.

    Quote from Spaceboot1

Okay, that argument I hadn't heard before. It's a bit more logical than before, but I still don't completely buy the realism of it.

Hmm, I don't know how other players play, but I find obsidian farming extremely tedious. It's not even really farming, because in order to "farm" it you have to bring in buckets of lava, and even after that, you still have to mine it. The most efficient way to obtain obsidian remains to find lava seas, dump water over it, and mine it the old-fashioned way. An efficiency pick helps, but it's still mind-numbingly slow. And as another poster mentioned, players also use obsidian for building, increasing its opportunity cost.

Personally, according to my play-style, I tend to accumulate a lot more gold than obsidian, although if I really wanted obsidian badly, I could get it. Even so, gold tools are poorly balanced to begin with, because it's just never worth it. The cost of gold is way too high for the small amount of benefit you get from mining faster for about a minute. At least with obsidian it would be worth while to obtain new obsidian and craft new tools when it wears out.

You see, my main though is that because its possible to create an obsidian generator, the tools it makes shouldn't be faster thatn diamond... it could be overpowered. True, its tedious, but you could set it up so all you need to do is tape your left mouse button down and get as much as you want. Also, if you don't buy the realism of it, look it up. Gold has a density, but is soft and malleable. It seems like kind of a contradiction, but its true.

Er... If gold was dense wouldn't that make it not a soft metal?

Dense and soft are too different things, they aren't opposites. Soft refers to how easy it is to manipulate, whereas density refers to mass/volume ratio. Basically, its heavy and dense but if you were to smash it into things it would get dented more easily then something like iron. I hope I'm describing that well.

Gold tools make sense. They have low durability because its a soft metal, but do a lot of damage because its very heavy and dense. Also, it works balance wise as a set of rare, but extremely enchantable tools. If gold and obsidian were switched, it would be totally unbalanced because it is easy to farm large amounts of obsidian, and as such players could get very fast tools in large numbers, pretty much making their low durability irrelevant.

In other words, it should stay as it is. Obsidian tools have been suggested and rejected many times, and for good reason.
