    updated.. This is not a particularly large update but does include a few small terrain updates, a new portal animation, wolves, and gold armor.. I also fixed some little bugs with the gui.

    It is coming very soon. I appologize for the wait. I work weekends and had a lot to do today as well. It is still monday evening by my time zone.. so I have not broken my word(by proxy) yet. I am just finishing putting everything together now and making sure i have not made any mistakes.. It will be up shortly.

    also.. If orange_anything answeres any questions in the future.. His word is trust worthy. He is the sound designer for last days and has been involved since before I even started this thread.

    I will have a 1.4 update soon. My weekends are a bit hectic but I will try to get the wolf done ASAP.. as for as the new sprites go... I will just be carrying the default cookies and whatnot into the current items file.

    I know some of you may be hoping for a robot.. but as of now it is probably going to be a mangy looking dog. The angry wolf skin will look rabid. The reason I want to go with a dog is.. I can not legitimize a robot shaking itself off after exiting the water, and I feel that making it anything other then a dog is a missed opportunity. Perhaps this is just because I am a dog person.. but I think ultimately it will satisfy.

    Lore:

    Many residents of the cocoon attempted to bring their household pets with them but were forced to set them free on the island before taking residence in the cocoon. left to their own devices the now wild dogs formed packs and roamed the wastes. Over the years the would eventually breed into a single mixed breed and their numbers would dwindle. Now many of these dogs roam the wastes without a pack to follow and make for the perfect companion in this desolate world.

    Dog is after all, a mans best friend.

    perhaps. I think I tried that out once.. Tho it is prone to crashing the game after it gets huge. I am not prioritizing mod support over the actual pack development, but perhaps I will do that later on.

    The way I will legitimize it is with "Shack In the Box"... I think the name says it all. but in regards to your suggestion. I was thinking of talking to scout about adding some blocks to normalize the terrain a bit. Perhaps on with his LAST DAYS mod we could eventually have a terrain generation that has both the metal plates that replace stone currently as well as normal stone. That way landscapes with large mountains and such would look more believable but caves would still be made up of the metal plates. I am not sure how complex or possible that would be, but it was something i have been thinking about.

    if you download the sounds and mods required to use the sounds/hd texture fix then yes. If you just downloaded the textures then no. however these are pretty reliable mods and shouldn't be causing you to crash in smp.

    the textures are definitely darker then the default. It just wouldn't work if that were not the case tho. You could make your monitor a bit brighter and be fine probably. I have a two monitor set up and I keep one a little brighter and I can walk around in zero light and be fine.

    These look pretty good. I may modify one or two of them and to use for the pack. I would be modifying it mostly to make it visually/stylistically consistent with the rest of the pack.

    I think these are probably probably larger then the max but if you scaled them down I would definitely add them to the OP. As far as the faces are concerned the should definately be okay. I'll find a place for them and give you credit of course. Thank you for making them.

    Hopefully we will have some new sounds relatively soon. I need to catch up with my sound guy but I have been listening to auditions for spider and cave sounds recently... On that note.. If I have not yet responded to anyone.. its not that I am ignoring you, I have just been having a hard time keep up with contacting people.. so if you are waiting on a response before sending an audition in.. I suggest sending it, I listen to all of them. ogg is the best format for the file.. but mp3 and wav files are fine as well.

    Also I will try to do the armor soon.

    That is close. History said he was making the texture similar to a hazard suit.

    I will probably add some incentive to use the mod for the Nether (since otherwise it would be silly to just take a penalty with no reward). Maybe I'll add structures that spawn in the Nether, and make ghasts neutral like pigmen? That might make it more interesting to explore.

    Of course, I'd have to think of some buildings that would fit the Nether. Perhaps research buildings that are filled with tiles (mossy cobble), wires, and maybe a creep spawner. Lightstone too, of course.

    Naturally, all of this will come with a mod option to enable/disable whatever you want from the mod, much like other terrain generation mods (like coral reef or more trees).


    one benefit to the gold properties could be resistance to lava (since lava is toxic and the suit is part hazard suit) and an ability to breath underwater (since it is also part space suit so it would have an oxygen supply)

    I am very exited to see what you do with all this scout.. and I can't wait to try it out. I also think it it good that you plan to add an options file because it will make it more accessable to folks who wish to pick and choose features. I will definitely be in touch.

    Awesome... I have been very busy but I will be around tonight and I will catch up on comments. I am glad this mod exists... Granted it won't be neccisary for folks using scouts mod but it is good for people who are playing... vanilla-ish.

    This is most likely what I will do with the wolves. I realize it is not the drastic change some people may be hoping for but it seams to make the most sense. The only alternative a mutated animal of some sorts.. I am ruling out robots due to the wolf behavior. I also feel that since they are clearly very dog-like trying to make them into something else may be a missed opportunity and feel a bit forced.

    Hard to say... I am focusing on finishing the terrain right now. Hopefully that will be done relatively soon but it still has a good chunk of work left to do. After the terrain is done it shouldn't take to long to do the items (boat, cart, etc) and the armors... but the sound and items.png probably won't be complete for some time.

    That is sort of the plan for the plants and the dyes. I have to figure out the logistics of it but the plants will not be plants by the time the terrain is done. Item sprites are not my top priority right now since I am focused on trying to get the terrain finished but I do intend to do something much like that with them.

    However, the rest of your pack makes up for it in every possible way. Your cobble as folded steel, while your smoothstone is perfect cubes of it is stellar, and your trees look wonderful for being made of metal. Your take on the ores are also superb, especially Diamond. Your art is wonderful, what parts of it are finished, and the mobs, peaceful and not, are terrifying in their own ways, primarily psychological; The idea of a spider as a robotic curfew-master is terrifying and amazing at the same time.

    Besides that, all I can say is I can't wait for the finished product; I'm sure it'll be just as spectacular as what's already here!


    Well thank you, I can't take credit for everything of course. The stone, trees, cobble, and some other fundamental blocks were doku's work. I am simply trying to do his original vision justice. I am trying to develop art very carefully which is why its taking so long... especially since most of it is being done from scratch. I am glad you like the hall monitor as well :biggrin.gif:.. I consider it to be the unofficial mascot for the pack at this point

    in regards to your criticisms, I am going to fix the lava in a future update. I know exactly what you are saying. I hate the still lava animation at the moment... hopefully i will have it fixed soon. also in regards to the GUI.. that is something that I had completely forgotten I was planning to fix but I will start to work on that when I make some more progress on the terrain.

    nothing is definately final. everything is subject to change. My next update will be primarily terrain. I am in the process of redoing many blocks and making improvements on others. Although I had not planned on altering any of doku's textures I may try to make the cobble a bit more attractive. I still think the idea should be the same. I want everything to make relative sense, so to take cocoon walls and turn them into bricks may not be the direction I want to go. I do plan of taking a crack at improving them at some point, but I have other things that I am tring to do first.. namely fixing my crummier textures and polishing others. On top of that I am trying to have everything figured out soon.

    Orange_anything suggested that brick could be siding from sunkin ships welded together. I am fond of the idea since clay is always found by water so if I can come up with a good design that may end up being what is settled on for brick.

    essentially the idea is that by this next update everything should be figured out on the terrain so any additional terrain updates would just be tweaks and improvements.

    I have just updated the OP with some sample spider diologue. I plan to add some samples of the cave later tonight. If you are currently waiting for me to reply to a PM, I do plan on doing so.. I just need to organize a few sample cave sounds. I will add them to the OP when I have them and send you a private message letting you know they are there. If you are interested in the doing a voice for the cave sounds check out the OP. you can send me a spider voice sample in the mean time which will allow me to at least get a feel for your voice. since I am seeking similar qualities for both voices I may decide I would preffer you to do one over the other if I am fond of your voice.
