Currently I have 2 sticks of 2GB ram but am looking to upgrade to 8 gb.
I hear that dual channel ram is the most efficient, and mine is in that current setup.
If i were to buy another set of 2x2 gb ram to make it a total of 4gb, would it still be dual channel.
Is there a real difference to performance between dual channel ram and non dual channel?
It is g.skill 1600 mhz ram

Why would you get a 2500k with a 7870 but 4GB of ram? And try setting ccc to default or undo any changes you may have recently done

i dont need 4 gb of ram

    october 2012 with a 2500k, 7870, and 4gb ram... lol...

anyways, could be viruses slowing you down, do a few scans with whatever you got and malwarebytes.

could also be a full HDD, or RAM shortage (but i doubt that)

no virus on my computer, its extremely fast except for games.
And whats wrong with having a 2500k,7870 and 4 gb of ram in october 2012.

go into the "Catalyst Control Center" by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Configure Switchable Graphics." While in the control center you can select from a list of programs for which you want the graphics card on

no switchable graphics option, i have the latest AMD drivers.

Games are probably using the integrated graphics instead of the 7870.

how do you change them to use the 7870 in minecraft

I built my computer in october 2012.
    Radeon HD 7870
    Intel i5 2500k
    Asrock Z77 pro4 motherboard
    4 gb G.skill Ram
    OCZ zt 550 w PSU

Around 2 months ago, my games started lagging extremely, when before games like Fallout New Vegas would run at 60 FPS steady on highest settings, heavy modding.
Even games like Minecraft started lagging. I deleted, and reinstalled the latest AMD drivers multiple times but nothing worked. I even reinstalled windows 7. Nothing worked. My computer was using the integrated card that comes with the i5 2500k. In cpu-z it is showing the amd radeon as being there, but not using it idk why. it is also not highlighted in fields like
    core:
where as the intel card shows the info
My computers bios is set to use the Pcie actualy card not the onboard crap card
My monitor is hooked into the GPU not the motherboard and shows picture
i also removed my card and put it in a different PCIe slot and made sure it was in properly.
    The fans are spinning

I read somewhere if ur PSU does not have enough wattage, the card turns on only the fans to prevent overheating? Is this the case? Because the cards mimimum Wattage is supposed to be 550 and my PSU is 550w and bronze certified.

Or is my gpu simply dead and should i return it?

Either it is a GPU or slot issue, bios issue, motherboard issue, or power supply issue.

The power supply may not be responding to requests, or the motherboard is not accepting windows ACPI shutdown requests.

Or the bios is simply keeping the power supply on, in which it keeps sending ACPI On even though the system is offline.

I once had a old system, pent 4 HT, it refused to shutdown fans, and lights. But the system was entirely off. To find the PCI "ya PCI" GPU was causing issues, removed it, system was back to normal. Either defective slot, or something of that nature.

Can you try removing your GPU, and hook the system to motherboard video and try to shutdown using onboard GPU?

Ok I will try and post results.

GPUs are meant to be removable even after you install them. If the GPU is stuck, that's a bit... worrying.

Yea I took it out after i wrote the post. The problem still persists after I put it back in and checked too make sure,

I built my new computer, and since I built it I have been having issues with shutting it down, sleep mode etc.
When I press shut down either from the PC itself or from the start menu on Windows, the OS shuts down, but the computer doesnt, like the fans are still lit up and spinning, and the lights are all on. If i press sleep, then the computers fans still spin, and when i try to go back on it doesnt. WTF. The only way to shut my computer down is to hold the PC power button.

    Computer :
    Motherboard: Asrock Z77 pro 3
    CPU: i5 2500K
    GPU: Radeon 7870
    psu: OCZ 550w 80+ Bronze
    RAM: 4gb g.skill ripjaws

if your wondering what my case is too (idk how it could be contributing to the power but whatever) its CM storm enforcer.
