For some reason he doesn't have the 1.2.5 version hosted anymore.
The A1.2.5 that you downloaded was for the alpha version of minecraft, it's like 2 years old.
In flans mod thread, there is a 1.2.4 version, and the modloader 1.2.4 is still there. You may want to try that.
If you have installed windows 8 drivers for your graphics card from the manufacturers site. (www.amd.com or www.intel.com or www.nvidia.com), but the game still doesn't work, Windows is overriding the drivers. You need to manually override them.
Go to Control Panel
Go to Device Manager (You may have to change the view of control panel to see this)
Expand Display Adapters by clicking on the arrow
Right click your graphics card and select Properties, for example, mine was named AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
Go to the Driver tab
Click Update Driver
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select the driver that is NOT from Microsoft Corporation
Click Next
It should now install the driver software, this may take a few minutes. During the process your screen will go black, but it should come back shortly after, this is because in order for your computer to change your driver, it must uninstall the old driver which displays graphics on your screen
You have successfully changed the driver of your computer, you should not need to restart, however, if you are still failing to play, do so now
Did try that a few times to and even tried the api vs. the .jar... but I did get some help from the mod's creator!
Straight from SinSengir:
After switching to MultiMC (and sorting a few newfound ID conflicts between portal gun and forestry) Everything is running smooth and as it should. Still no clue what the actual problem was but it does seem to be that Magic Launcher has something to do with it. So thanks Hidinginthelight for all your help and patience. This is another one for the "Solved" bin folks!
Good to know. Thanks for coming back here with that info.
Try using MultiMC. It makes adding mods much easier. There are a few videos in the thread that explain how to use the program. It also has mcnostalgia built in.
minidumps aren't enabled
Isn't the error, that is just telling you that a portion of the error log isn't being out put. You need java developers software to get that portion of the error log, or a mac. It also isn't really need to figure out the problem.
What happens when you don't run in comparability mode?
Minecraft is not necessarily supported on Windows 8 yet. Notch is pretty mad.

This is false. Minecraft works just fine on Windows 8, the only thing that isn't done is certifying it, so that the little box doesn't pop up asking if you want to run it everytime. And that is also the portion of windows that notch objects to.
