YEAH, this is actually an issue? I shouldn't have to do this, for one. Two, I download the pack from the main site, where there is no 'spoiler' containing the alternates. It's ridiculous that the pack by default has mismatched textures and the matching ones are provided as alternates. I'll patch it myself, sure. But if this is going to be an issue, with the texture developers being disorganized, I'd rather not bother and use another pack. <--- @Hickerydickery Some advice for you and anyone else developing this.

I hear you, and I would tend to agree with you, but disorganization is bound to happen with a community ran pack like this, and unfortunately the number of contributors has been rather low lately, meaning its even more likely to happen, and quality is at risk of dropping. As for myself I've barely kept up with Minecraft's updates, and although I check this thread almost daily I haven't done anything for the pack for a long while, and I'm sure its the same for many others. Its not ideal but its a pretty big time investment to work on the pack, and after 5 years not everyone is interested enough to keep working on it.

The biggest advantage of the pack being community driven is that issues like this can be pointed out and fixed, it just requires someone to want to help fix it, be it yourself, or anyone else here. Similarly, if you have a preference you're welcome to edit the pack yourself, which is why we previously had no main packs, and just used a customiser.

Just got to remember that people here are volunteering their free time to contribute to the pack, but in the same vein, criticism like this is perfectly fine, just try to keep it all civil.

Is there a list of textures added in the update around anywhere? I don't have a great deal of time but can help out where possible.

    MiniDoku 1.8.9 (update 2/13/2016)

Here is another update to the pack: MiniDoku Light

Now its like 96% finished! :)

    To-Do List:

(I'm having trouble with plants/flowers in general, I can't seem to make the textures nice and flush with everything)

    -Horse Armour

    Entities(not all listed)

    -Iron Golem

-I may change the glass texture, reducing the frame by one pixel.

(it seems really thick in game; its really distracting to me ha)

    -Clock dial needs some changes

    - the acacia log top would be a nice texture for a medium rare steak lol

    - Adjusted textures from previous to-do list

    - Pack icon changed to grass block

    - Options background changed to regular stone bricks

I just got started on MiniDoku Dark!

So both Light and Dark should be done by the end of next week.

If there are any problems be sure to tell me!

If ya got any questions, concerns, or recommendations shoot me a message!

This is some great stuff! Really glad you took the time to do this, the 16x pack needed some love.

And FTWBurn, shoot me an invite to the discord, can't say I use the program a lot, but its nice to have.

Hey don't worry CCCode, as usual you've started a good discussion! Its worth talking about this every now and then, as its really one of the biggest problems we've been facing doing this, and is obviously going to come with doing anything ran by an open community. I definitely don't feel as though starting again would be a good idea, and I'm not even sure if it'll fix anything. It would require a huge amount of documentation, and much clearer communication between all the contributors, and given that no one is really in charge around here, and there is a much, much, smaller number of us, it'd be a lot of work, especially to recreate any of the packs. Modding itself is in a pretty grey area of IPs, and attempting to make things clearer for everyone would definitely help, but would certainly not put us in a position where we could start making any kind of money, or even taking these textures outside of Minecraft, without some complications.

And the more I think about it, I keep getting back round to asking if it'd even be worth it. As CCCode said, it'd likely split the few guys remaining around here, cause no doubt even more issues during the whole process, and wouldn't get us much further away from where we are now, we'd just know how a tiny percent of the contributor's would want their textures used.

On another note, which I have not seen mentioned yet, is that the amount of people who would even ask to use the textures, or even care, would likely be tiny. A few years back (and I'm sure there's still some popping up) there was a huge amount of iOS and Andriod games which used at least some of the textures created for this pack, and even more people straight up reuploading the whole pack to various sites to get some quick ad revenue. These people don't care if we ask them not to use anything from here, and getting them taken down is a huge pain, and usually relies on messaging whoever's doing it, and hoping they admit to their mistake. We don't have much of a legal leg to stand on if a mobile game suddenly pops up using our textures and becomes hugely popular, and I'm not sure if changing it up here will have a great effect on that.

On an even broader note, what about youtube? Many popular youtubers have used the pack without so much as a mention, and we can tell them that they must credit us, but so many of them are completely blind to matters like this that they wouldn't give much attention to it. What if a contributor didn't want their specific textures used in a youtube video at all? Would we be in a position to DMCA take down a video? I doubt it, but questions like this suddenly start popping up, and even more complexities spiral out of this.

That's not to say that its not a good idea, or that it wouldn't help in any way, but how much effort is it really worth? The method I've been sticking to for inquires like this usually goes:

    1) If they want to use textures here for a private remix, all good, give credit.

    2) If they want to use textures here for their own pack which they intend to publicly upload, not so good.

    3) If they want to use textures here for anything involving money, not happening.

    4) Youtube, also good, just give credit.

Its far from perfect but its the easiest way of staying out of most copyrighting issues like this.

Hey guys. I have a question and I know it can be a bit of a touchy subject at times, but. Who in the team can/would I talk to about licensing on some of DokuCraft's assets? I'm working on a 16 bit style RPG and I would really like to have DokuCraft style icons for the weapons, armour and whatnot. I would have to have them edited though, since the engine uses 24x24 pixel sized icons. Please contact me via Steam or Skype if you can. I'd really like to work something out if I can. If not, I completely understand. Thanks guys for being awesome.

Hey, unfortunately, it'd be very hard to begin licencing out any textures created specifically for this pack. Please consider looking at Doku's original pack, as it is 'free to use'. However, you should again be careful using these for something you'd sell, as I'm not 100% on Doku's stance, but he may not want his textures being sold.

    Quote from FTWBurn»

That is a good idea and it can be arranged. Active contributors would have to make new textures to replace those that are in the packs. There's also textures that fit perfectly but those who contributed are long gone.

On another note, Dokucraft 5th Anniversary is getting near, so if you guys are interested we can plan something out.

I really wish I'd have thought of it when we started all those years back, but I didn't really have the knowledge, and honestly didn't think it'd get anywhere near this far. We did attempt this a few years back, where we had that list of contributors, and what their stance was on texture usage, but even then it was largely a failure, simply because most of the packs contributor's have left, and getting a word from them was impossible, especially considering the huge number of contributors we've had over the last 5 years, and the fact that many people would come along, contribute a single texture, and had no interest in doing any more, or even posting in the thread. Doing it now would be even more difficult, as there's only a handful of people still around here, granted I'm not sure how many people are still lurking on the thread.

Even more of a problem is that most textures are edit's of Doku's, even if quite large edits, and is very hard to decide at which point a texture counts as original, and if we even have the rights to hand them out to be licensed, as they could essentially be Doku's. Additionally, many textures are edits of contributor's original textures, at which point it becomes even more confusing, especially if the original author didn't want their textures to be used outside of this thread, or maybe if they didn't even want them to be edited.

Essentially at this point we're in greyist of legal grey zones, and unless we started over, it'd be very difficult to even make things clearer. At this point it's easier to say no to anything involving money.

Hey I've made a resource pack using fyreuks creative dokucraft texture pack's gui and items, it has been for personal use only, but i was wandering if i could upload it to be downloaded freely in steelfeathers dragon dance thread, since that is the base resource pack. Do I have your permission?

You can post it, just provide credit for anything you have used from here, and provide a link to this thread or our website. And make sure you're not making any money from it.

If you're using anything from the original Dokucraft, (, that's all completely free to use and edit. So you may want to consider looking into that if you want something a bit more open.

What happened to the 16x16 Minidoku by the way? I used to use it all the time, kinda sucks that it's out of date.

I kind of took that over a while back (a long while back), but Uni's been keeping me busy the last year and a half or so, so I don't really have time to work on it. Sorry!

I have to second that, my god, I just remembered about this community...

I can't thank you guys enough for being so, so dedicated to this project. Many have come and gone, but their legacies have been immortalised in this absolute artwork of a continuation. I feel like a freeloader, only having only submitted one measly rehash of a minecart track, and yet having leeched off of you philanthropists for so many years, in order to purtify my world Minecraft world and make my forest glades the absolute epitome of lush serenity. My hobbies have altered, but never will I forget you gentlemen.

    I love you guys.

EDIT: An insane coincidence, this is exactly one year since my last post on the MCForums, totally accidental.

No such thing as a freeloader here man, you used to be one of the more active members of the community a while back, even if you didn't create a lot of textures.

But I agree with you completely, although I'm not interested in Minecraft anymore, this was still a huge part of my life, as were all of you guys who have stuck around all these years. That's not to say I intend to fully stop my contribution to this any time soon, in fact I want to make more time for it, but there is a lot less of us around now a days, nice to see some of you pop back.

    Just had a thought.

Since the downloads for *takes a deep breath* Minidoku Light, High, and Dark; Megadoku Light, High, and Dark; Dokucraft Creative and Dokucraft Lush (so many!) are all dead, is Hickerydickery going to either remove of fix the links? It seems a waste of space to have the links there if they don't work.

I'll be adding a banner to the packs that aren't updated/discontinued. I was planning to work on some of Minidoku myself, but I've never got round to it. Maybe 1.9 will spark my interest for a while again.

Just to chime in on the whole permissions thing, the way we tend to go about it is to assume that a contributor's texture is pretty much free to be edited and included in mod support or other 'official' packs within the group, based on good faith and giving credit where credit's due. Unless of course anyone has any objections to that, and obviously if they start circulating outside of this 'official' group, that's a problem.

Its clearly a less than ideal method, but given the nature of a publicly run pack, its nigh impossible to regulate the thousands of textures created by the hundreds of contributor's we've had, especially considering a huge number of people come and go on a pretty regular basis. You can't expect that many people to want to stick around for nearly 4 years, and I really appreciate you guys that have.

This has come up a few times during the last few years, one lead to a bunch of people leaving, and another time lead to us 'reforming', for want of a better word. Some of you might remember the spreadsheet we created for this very reason,, but while it was a nice idea, its again far too hard to keep track of, especially given only a small percent of people even added themselves to list at the time. But its pretty clear to see that the majority of people are fine with their textures being distributed and edit within this thread, given they receive credit.

I only just realised that its edging close to 4 years now, that's pretty crazy honestly. Sure things have slowed down, and there isn't a huge number of you guys left, but even so, it's impressive to have something as loosely strung together as this to keep going that long.

I've updated Light and put it up on the site (which is looking great by the way). I'm not too sure who's handling the alternative downloads on the site, but they seem to just link back to the site.

I'll also update the OP later to include a link to the new customiser.

Super duper fast mockup of an item texture for Creator409's Birch Door. Enjoy

It seemed a bit blurry, so I made some small changes to define it a bit better.
