Alright, first off, love the idea of a Hyperdrive Potion. However, I believe you have too small of a bonus for too many drawbacks. For example, making it go hardcore mode suddenly I believe is too far. Perhaps it just increases sensitivity to damage. Also, perhaps two of three more blocks than normal for jumping and a much greater increase is speed (It is the Hyperdrive mod). Or, even better, add another level. One crafts the Warp Potion, which was the effects you mention (except for the Hardcore thing). Then, the player can enchant that potion using the new functions to be released in 1.0 to create the Hyperdrive potion, with increased positive effects and fewer and weaker drawbacks.

Okay, let's start with what works.
First off, the general concept of the mod. The idea of exploring space is a fantasy held by many of us, and Minecraft is a brilliant way to implement it with complete freedom. Secondly, space suits. Though eerily similar to those of the Moon mod, the making of reinforced cloth is a good idea to limit players in their armor, allowing you to better guage the power of space mobs. Also, lava boats. Expensive enough not to be broken, and very much a nessisity. Lastly, meteors and meteorites. Though meteorites should be rare, as you cannot have players structures being griefed by their own world. That's the creepers' jobs. They probably should not contain diamond, as that might make players OP if one lands early in the game. Making them contain obsidian and/or Netherrack might be cool, especially aestetically. Meteor showers should do significantly less damage if you wish to implement them so that you don't have an entire continent gone from one shower.
Now for the ideas that leave room for improvement.
Rocket ships- due to the inherent nature of Minecraft, this would be both difficult to code and play. The zepplin and airship mods devoted themselves entirely to a similar concept, have been working on it for months, and are still having problems. Perhaps building a portal to space, and then letting the player wander once there. Most hazards- as soon as you equipt your space suit, you should be fine universally. No pun intended. Telescope- If you're using portals as I suggest, this would have no point. Venus- Having it be a difficult terrain to navigate would be fine, but a large point of Minecraft is to build; something impossible to do in a day. Black holes- should just kill you right away. Aliens- Not themselves, but them dropping laser guns. Too advanced, even for a mod where you go into space. Time travel- So many problems with this one. First, one needs to travel near, at, or beyond the speed of light to travel through time. Our society cannot do this, so it is rediculous to believe that Steve? could. Second, you are assuming there was some kind of apocalypse, likely of the zombie variety. This would invalidate fighting, period. Third, you are also coding in villages and villagers, which would take time and space as well. The battleaxe is just a broken sword, and the boomerand is just a bow that's weaker and harder to get.
Well, I hope you take into consideration what I have said. If I missed anything, please tell me.

I walk inside a stone house and use an electromagnet to divert the shuriken.

I teleport your vital organs into an undisclosed location in space.

Perhaps you could release two versions: one that works with Industrial Craft's Rubber Trees etc. (with permission, of course), because it's so popular and two rubber trees would be confusing, and an independent one. Also, instead of a book, what if it was just a paper, like maps are? You could write on it anytime a pencil was in your inventory, it might be about 7 lines, 20 or so character per line. This could work better than a single book because you wouldn't have to put your shopping list next to your personal log, and you wouldn't have to flip through several pages to find the one you are looking for. Even if you don't use those ideas, I would have to point out a possible problem. There would have to be a hotkey of some sort to access the writing interface which could not possibly be something that could be used when typing. Perhaps ESC?

Whoever made this rocks at Minecraft, but he/she sucks at Tetris. Or maybe that was so he/she could keep the video short.

He is one who shall not be named. He is Notch's one mistake in a perfect world. He is the source of all griefers, trolls, and hatred amongst people. He sees nothing, yet is always watching. He hears nothing, yet always is listening. He knows time not, yet is always waiting. He exists not in space, yet is in everything we see. He is... He.

I think I will attempt to make my own. Thanks for the inspiration. Freaking awesome.
    And if I may:
Discovery #17: Subjects may become angered with each other after a few days.
Discovery #18: It is more difficult to clean blood stains off of glass than one would be lead to believe.

This might be somewhat confusing to put simply.
    Just follow these steps.
    1. Cut a hole in th- I mean, dig deep underground.
    2. Make room. Height=3-4 blocks Width=3-4 blocks Length=24-33 blocks
    3. Line the walls with Big Chests.
    4. Fill Big Chests with delicious cake.
    5. Lie to others about the existence of said cake.
    6. ???
    7. Profit.
    Worked for me.
