Mine is an interesting story, but only for those actually interested in learning the reason why the white-haired sovereign is named as he is. If you asked me, my short answer would be "Because the character I created myself is named Heric." But his name origin is tied to my own.
It started a long time ago. Maybe when I was 8. Not sure. I joined my first ever online community. Neopets. As I had to think up a good username to join, I jumped to the first thing that popped into my head.
Supercute.
Of course, my brother was aiding me in creating my account, and I understood the wisdom when he said I might be mistaken for a girl with that username. So I chose instead something long enough to remember, but easy enough to say. Thus, on neopets, I am now Hereicomenow.
A few years later, we discovered a fan site with a great community on it's forums. As I know some forums are rather touchy about mentioning other forums, I shall not name the site. Regardless, the community was great, and it was my first taste of roleplaying. Naturally, my name, still being hereicomenow, was rather long, so it got abbreviated time and time again. Comenow was the most common one. I believe sometimes it got abbreviated as Here, HICN, and some others. But then, one member abbreviated it in a way no one had before.
Heric.
This name had a nice ring to it. Short, yet cool. Thus, after promptly thanking them for the new name, I switched mine to...Dark Heric. While everyone still called me Heric, I use Dark Heric, or Lord Heric, as an alternate name when my five-letter persona is already taken. Which I'm pretty sure it hadn't been taken, but still...(The Dark/Lord prefix was more a representation of preferring the dark side when it came to fantasy)
I don't remember who called me it first. It may very well have been my best friend on that forum, who addressed herself as 'Moogi'. Might have been Raven/Valka. Maybe even _johnpaul, an old RPing buddy.
If anyone recognized me anywhere else, feel free to give me a holler here or there. Also, if the place has a searchbar, just type in 'Heric'. Heck, I bet you could google my name, and find my material(Albeit mostly here.)

This is kind of interesting to me. My online gaming began in the mid 90's with mudding, and there is certainly a tendency to go through the three classic three stages of apprentice, journeyman, and master levels of play. In the game Ancient Anguish where I cut my mudding teeth, getting to level 20 quickly and efficiently sort of marked your arrival at the journeyman level, and then if you ever got to the point where you were counting how much experience an hour you were making and were measuring up to the top level players, that was basically Master level.
No one used these terms. I'm just sort of borrowing a traditional terminology because I'm all Medieval like that.
Anyhow, long story short, I do not think it is psychologically possible for the human being to operate without measuring and labeling people as to their relative abilities. Therefore, I disagree that mods that tweek functionality encourage this behavior. They just shift it to emphasize a different aspect of the game.
In the end, xp farming is going to be the inescapable measure so long as xp has anything at all to do with improving either the character or its equipment. So welcome back to xp/hour measures. Minecraft will quite possibly get to the point where you farm xp and resources to make equipment to kill bigger monsters that give more xp to make better equipment, etc etc etc.
In fact, putting together a mob engine that has the capacity to just create bigger, badder, and meaner mobs in an automatic arms race sort of cycle and that are worth more xp when you kill them would put the capstone on that particular aspect of the game.
I get what you are saying. However, my stance stays the same. I have no personal hatred of this mod, nor do I look down on anyone using it, but I do not like this mod, and could not see myself using it, single or multiplayer.
As long as it stays off of the good servers of mine, I still have no problem with it. -

This mod just encourages that. Now, it's no longer finding someone who has one, or extreme luck. Now, it's create it yourself, because it's that simple. And anyone who can't is now a n00b.Posted in: News
Probably making it sound worse than it is, but this just encourages "God kit or n00b" environments, in my opinion.
Still, a new mod for the people who want it is always welcome. I just hope it doesn't invade my servers. - To post a comment, please login.

((Well, Cloakedshadow, you are the primary injured member. But if you believe we can make it to Bleatingfall, I'd say the same.))
Godric had not followed the two warriors towards Alyssa's tent. Rather, he was on the other side of the camp, about to run as far away from the campsite as possible. He stopped when he heard Kaleth's laughing and realized...there probably wasn't a beast, and thus, no reason to run away. He swiftly walked closer to the tent before putting together what happened. It seemed that Zenowo woke up Alyssa, putting an end to her beastly snoring. Well, then. On with the day
((Nothing terribly important in-character, I just wanted to post and figured I should have something in character.))

Godric had just started carving the dead rat when he noticed Alyssa coming out of her tent, clearly awoken by the ruckus he caused. She posed probably the single most obvious question she possibly could. What happened?
"What happened is that a giant rat was rummaging through our supplies." Godric replied, still carving the rat. "I tried to get rid of it without waking anyone. Take a good guess how that worked out."

This is a very idealistic idea. But I'm not an idealistic person. Looking past the idealism, the idea has a lot of problems.
While this isn't entirely accurate(20.7 million people play minecraft, supposedly, but not even servers as big as Hypixel are graced by all 20.7 million of them), it does raise some questions. Where do you get the money to keep allowing this system? For each person who can earn the amount to trade in, you'd need to have the money to provide, and the more people that use your server, the more you'd need. Plus the cost of getting a server hosted in the first place. There doesn't seem to be any money in it for you, but it'd drain your bank real quickly unless you're some sort of millionaire.
Even if that's technically true, the problem is usually when you're selling in-game currency or items in exchange for money. Selling money for in-game currency is unlikely to cause any alarms at Microsoft/Mojang. However, he is correct. You couldn't have any financial gain from the money on your end(Such as them paying for any of it), as that is against the EULA.
The biggest problem I see with this idea, though, is that it assumes everyone will play fair. That's not how humans work. Humans will do tons of things to exploit the server and abuse the system. Any bugs that slip through will be heavily abused until they're resolved(And I doubt many people will tell you about them). People will set up bot accounts to farm for extra money without any work needed. They'll hack to raise money ludicrously fast. And there's simply no way to stop that when the motivation to continue is real-world currency.

((Yeah, I guess engaging in a fight at all would make a lot of noise. But better that then let the rat wake people up.))
((Also, that rat bit him in the leg, and halved his HP. Yeowch. Moments like these I kind of regret making an elf.))
Godric was now wounded. Considering he is a fragile elf, he was very wounded. Between the noise of the fight, and his fairly loud groaning and complaining about the gash in his leg, he wouldn't be surprised if at least one person woke up. But he needed to deal with the bleeding caused by that vermin before worrying about whether or not the injured were disturbed. He searched around his equipment until he found a piece of cloth, which he used to put pressure on his wound and eventually stop the bleeding. After the bleeding stopped, he returned to the carcass of the rat, ready to finish the job and carve out what could be of use from the rat.
((So it turns out that Godric should probably never take on anything by himself...Lesson learned.))

((I am confused. Does the rat not notice me? I'll assume that's the case. Also, are these rats thinking like animals or monsters? Cause a rat scurrying through camp makes sense, but the first rat would've had to be desperate to be attacking a group of six perfectly healthy adventurers by itself.))
A giant rat. As if they didn't have enough problems, this vermin is scurrying around the camp. Godric wouldn't allow it any closer to their members or supplies. Quickly judging, he decided that one rat did not require everyone to be awakened for combat. He gripped his panabas, and attempted to strike the rat with surprise, hoping the rat would either go down quickly, or, being a rat, be scared off by an armed opponent attacking it.
((How large are these giant rats, anyways?))
((I am also hoping Godric's decision doesn't really suck.))

"Yes, I suppose we'll have to camp here for the night." Godric agreed with the dwarf, but spoke to the injured. "If we were to encounter anything on the way back to town, I'm not sure we could flee with both of you injured. We'll have to camp here, and see how you two are doing tomorrow."
"As for the alligator..." Godric took out his own carving knife. "I'll take care of gathering what I can from it. You just avoid hurting yourself." He walked over to the corpse of the beast, and started carving and collecting what he could.
0
"Most cannot." Godric replied to Alyssa. "Some can, but only if applied right, and none of the plants around here will help us. Most plants with any healing property simply soothe the pain long enough to get actual medical attention and rest. For once, I can agree with you. We need to get to the nearest town as soon as possible." He turned to face Kaleth and Zenowo. "Are you two still able to walk?"
0
((Godric leveled up! Yay! I'll spend the two points in HP and strength, if that's acceptable.))
Finally. Between Kaleth and Zenowo, who were the only ones who were capable of harming the gator, the scaled beast was vanquished. But it was not without cost. Both Kaleth and Zenowo were heavily injured. "I'll see if I can find anything to help with the pain nearby, but we must be headed to a town soon, or we might find another beast." Godric stated. He looked around the nearby area, hoping there was some sign of helpful flora.
0
((Seeing how much damage that alligator can deal in one hit...I really hope he doesn't attack Godric.))
Godric was panicked at this point. Clearly his blade is having no effect on the alligator, but it was miraculous Zenowo survived even one snap of its jaws. However, Godric noticed that Kaleth's weapon had quite the effect on the reptilian beast, and Godric decided. As long as his allies were still in the fray, he would continue to attack the alligator, even if it only serves to distract it. He just hoped beyond all else that the alligator doesn't turn its jaws on him.
0
((I picked the worst day to be almost completely absent.))
Godric was appalled at the thought that must've been running through Kaleth's mind as he harvested the rat. Eating rat? He certainly didn't deserve such a cruel fate. But that thought apparently wasn't the only problem that rat caused. It seemed to have attracted an alligator, who was now between Kaleth and the rest of the group, and it looked hungry for rat and/or human-sized adventurers. "Not another overgrown lizard..." Godric muttered to himself as he readied for battle with the alligator. He'd run at the first sign of his partners fleeing, but otherwise, he believed that altogether, the alligator was at a disadvantage.
0
((That actually raises a question. Was it ever explained how we're supposed to increase our stats? Are we even able to increase our stats outside of whatever weapon/armor we have? Cause I can say right now, I'm a bit short on MP to cast Blackout.))
0
((True, it did seem that Alyssa got ignored. I can assure you, though, that Godric has not forgotten.))
"I appreciate that." Godric took the Necronite from Kaleth and, after a bit of looking around his weapon for the slot, inserted it into the Panabas.
((Sorry for the short post. Just wanted to make that action actually happen.))
0
((I, too, have a question or two. What determines the spell in the augment, and how would I know which spell is in it unless I put the augment in? Also, does the spell the augment gives depend on whether you insert it into a weapon or armor, or what weapon or armor you put it in?))
Godric looked at the augments Kaleth had presented to the group, a slight look of distaste on his face. "These are augments? I've heard of them, but I always assumed they'd be more...magnificent." He looked over the augments, his eyes focusing on the Necronite augments in particular. "Well, then, I'd like that one," he did his best to point out one of the Necronite augments, "if nobody objects."
0
((I'm going to assume that is the panabas that Godric is supposedly better off with.))
Godric took the weapon and held it in his hand. "Hmm...a bit heavier than I'm used to, but I guess that means it probably cuts better than my sickle." He thought aloud. "And it's still a pretty light blade. I think I like this weapon."
0
"And yet you-" Godric was about to respond when he noticed Zenowo waving at them. He also noticed Kaleth inside the shop. "Ah, it looks like we've found them." He walked over to Zenowo. "Is there something wrong? Please don't tell me you got attacked by a bear again..."
