Mine is an interesting story, but only for those actually interested in learning the reason why the white-haired sovereign is named as he is. If you asked me, my short answer would be "Because the character I created myself is named Heric." But his name origin is tied to my own.
It started a long time ago. Maybe when I was 8. Not sure. I joined my first ever online community. Neopets. As I had to think up a good username to join, I jumped to the first thing that popped into my head.
Supercute.
Of course, my brother was aiding me in creating my account, and I understood the wisdom when he said I might be mistaken for a girl with that username. So I chose instead something long enough to remember, but easy enough to say. Thus, on neopets, I am now Hereicomenow.
A few years later, we discovered a fan site with a great community on it's forums. As I know some forums are rather touchy about mentioning other forums, I shall not name the site. Regardless, the community was great, and it was my first taste of roleplaying. Naturally, my name, still being hereicomenow, was rather long, so it got abbreviated time and time again. Comenow was the most common one. I believe sometimes it got abbreviated as Here, HICN, and some others. But then, one member abbreviated it in a way no one had before.
Heric.
This name had a nice ring to it. Short, yet cool. Thus, after promptly thanking them for the new name, I switched mine to...Dark Heric. While everyone still called me Heric, I use Dark Heric, or Lord Heric, as an alternate name when my five-letter persona is already taken. Which I'm pretty sure it hadn't been taken, but still...(The Dark/Lord prefix was more a representation of preferring the dark side when it came to fantasy)
I don't remember who called me it first. It may very well have been my best friend on that forum, who addressed herself as 'Moogi'. Might have been Raven/Valka. Maybe even _johnpaul, an old RPing buddy.
If anyone recognized me anywhere else, feel free to give me a holler here or there. Also, if the place has a searchbar, just type in 'Heric'. Heck, I bet you could google my name, and find my material(Albeit mostly here.)

This is kind of interesting to me. My online gaming began in the mid 90's with mudding, and there is certainly a tendency to go through the three classic three stages of apprentice, journeyman, and master levels of play. In the game Ancient Anguish where I cut my mudding teeth, getting to level 20 quickly and efficiently sort of marked your arrival at the journeyman level, and then if you ever got to the point where you were counting how much experience an hour you were making and were measuring up to the top level players, that was basically Master level.
No one used these terms. I'm just sort of borrowing a traditional terminology because I'm all Medieval like that.
Anyhow, long story short, I do not think it is psychologically possible for the human being to operate without measuring and labeling people as to their relative abilities. Therefore, I disagree that mods that tweek functionality encourage this behavior. They just shift it to emphasize a different aspect of the game.
In the end, xp farming is going to be the inescapable measure so long as xp has anything at all to do with improving either the character or its equipment. So welcome back to xp/hour measures. Minecraft will quite possibly get to the point where you farm xp and resources to make equipment to kill bigger monsters that give more xp to make better equipment, etc etc etc.
In fact, putting together a mob engine that has the capacity to just create bigger, badder, and meaner mobs in an automatic arms race sort of cycle and that are worth more xp when you kill them would put the capstone on that particular aspect of the game.
I get what you are saying. However, my stance stays the same. I have no personal hatred of this mod, nor do I look down on anyone using it, but I do not like this mod, and could not see myself using it, single or multiplayer.
As long as it stays off of the good servers of mine, I still have no problem with it. -

This mod just encourages that. Now, it's no longer finding someone who has one, or extreme luck. Now, it's create it yourself, because it's that simple. And anyone who can't is now a n00b.Posted in: News
Probably making it sound worse than it is, but this just encourages "God kit or n00b" environments, in my opinion.
Still, a new mod for the people who want it is always welcome. I just hope it doesn't invade my servers. - To post a comment, please login.

((There's no point in reposting it or anything yet, Riyguy. Only Ykcud can properly allow your character, so you have to wait for him to post. If he posts and doesn't say anything about it, then you could repost.))((Guess you already noticed that.))

Godric was convinced now; this queen was a tyrant. Shown by the proceedings, the law, judgment, and punishment were all in her hands, and she took it all as far as she wanted. As Alyssa attempted to explain only the most obvious of problem that plagues the entire world as if it were some secret disorder, the queen snapped and quickly ordered their death tomorrow with no haste. Godric shot one glare at Alyssa before the guards gagged the group with fearful haste.
To think, his life ends here for joining up with a group of lizards and humans, and his life ends due to a filthy dwarf. He doesn't even get a peaceful death, nor an honorable death, but rather one ended in criminal execution. This is why he generally despised people; even the most vicious of beasts paled in comparison to the terror brought by a corrupt or malicious person.
There was only a few hopes left for their life, and none seemed likely, especially with them having no ability to influence them. Either complete rebellion from the guards or citizenry, or this entire thing being some odd trick. No, what's the point? Godric's always been a pessimistic person. None of that's happening. Knowing his story was at an end, he gave one last silent prayer to the land.

The queen ordered a guard to bring in a box from the corner of the room. As the guard revealed the contents by dumping them onto the floor, Godric noted that those were their weapons, and he felt a slight tint of anger seeing his panabas treated so poorly. The queen's following question, whether or not they came into the palace with those weapons, seemed aimed at attempting to make them look guilty, regardless of actual circumstances.
"Yes, those are in fact our weapons." Godric replied calmly. "We did, in fact, enter your palace with them. Considering we are travelers, without so much as an inn to stay the night in here, it's only reasonable that we keep our equipment with us wherever we go, and as I'm sure one of your guards can attest, we were quite willing to relinquish them when we visited the scholar."

Godric quickly grabbed a cloak that a guard had tossed into his cell, and put it on as well as he was capable. It wasn't fancy, but it's better than what he's got now.
And he's starting to think he was wrong on that regard. As they were 'escorted' through the palace to where they were certainly going to be judged, it took all his patience to refrain from complaining about the cloak. It felt like a cloak of daggers, constantly scratching at his back throughout the whole experience.
They finally arrived at a fairly well decorated room, with at least a good few dozen guards standing around, some of which seemed to be glaring at them. He was almost certain that one of the guards was glaring at him, specifically. They were brought before the queen, who sat on a throne which sat a good few feet above the rest of the room. Their supposed crimes, of course, being assaulting and nearly killing the scholar. Godric attempted to defend the parties innocence, though whether he was actually helpful is up to debate.
"I would like to say, in our group's defense, that there was no intention to harm the scholar. Our 'partner', Fenrir, snapped during the visit and attacked him with no warning. We attempted to forcefully restrain our partner, but by the time we even realized what had happened, the guards were already there."

Godric slowly awoke to find himself bound in a dark jail cell. He barely remembered what happened before. Fenrir snapped, probably from the affliction, and all of a sudden every guard in the palace was on them like rabid dogs. Godric did not miss a beat in his reaction. He started complaining and rambling to himself. Vocally. And loudly. "I knew that dwarf was no good! I knew it! I knew I should've spoken up, but no, I had to act reasonable! I tried to get along with him, and tolerate his presence! And oh mother nature, how my head hurts! Those guards are lucky I didn't die from that! If they had killed me, I'd have become one with the earth and convinced it to-" He retained just enough self control to realize that threatening the entire settlement while locked up with no weapons was a very bad idea, and actually held the silence for a minute or two before finding another reason to start complaining again. "This was almost set up! Yep, I bet it was set up. The trial is probably rigged, and we'll be sentenced to death! Heck, maybe there won't even be a trial and we'll just see the gallows next! With how thuggish the guards here are, I wouldn't be surprised." Awfully well timed, the guard bringing in the meager jail food arrived just in time to nearly scare him into the afterlife. This got him to shut up long enough to listen. They were summoned before the queen for judgment, and were being given...that food. After realizing that this guard wasn't here to cleave his head off, Godric reluctantly grabbed the bread and then promptly devoured it. He then drank the cup of water.
"And the bread was stale."

[[I had almost all the post written out before I realized that the jail time extended between two days, rather than just one. Instead of re-writing, though, I just figure Godric arose late. He is a fragile elf, after all.]]

Godric was waiting along with the group, and he remained silent. He tried his best to avoid a public show of any of the numerous negative thoughts running through his head at the moment, from simply growing tired of the wait, to disdain at Alyssa's almost falling asleep in public. He was quite relieved when a guard finally came back, ready to allow them in. He did request they hand over their weapons for the duration of the visit, but Godric had little issue with that.

((I've been here the whole time. I just don't always post. Sorry if I seemed absent.))
Godric awoke the next morning, more than ready to finally enter Bleatingfalls. After breakfast and after the campsite had been taken down, he awaited the rest of the party to be ready.

((Question. I went looking through the character list to figure out if Godric should claim the cloak, when I found something. Zenowo apparently has an aged pyrope jacket with 77 defense...and speed -. It's not my character, so I don't mean to be rude, but was there supposed to be a speed penalty there?))
Godric had stopped when the rest of the group noticed the abandoned cart on the side of the road. Godric was inclined to completely ignore it. It probably didn't hold anything useful, and anything that was useful probably belonged to someone else. Godric had a judgmental look on him as Jeck had gone to open one of the cabinets inside the cart, but this quickly turned to interest when Kaleth pulled out a small red gemstone and a green cloak. Godric could definitely use the cloak, he recognized this. He also desired the gem, though. And he was fairly certain that he wouldn't have both just handed to him. He decided he'd rather have the cloak.
"If there are no objections, I would like to have the cloak." Godric requested.
0
"I can second that idea." Godric added in response to Kaleth. He was glad to have finally gotten some rest from their long journey to Bleatingfalls, but the sooner they got there, the better.
((I must also apologize for the short post. Didn't really have much to post, but a post seemed necessary.))

((I think we should head to Bleatingfalls first. We don't know what we'll find at the other spots, and the whole point of this trek was to get to Bleatingfalls. We could definitely go to one of the other spots after resting and trading and such at town, though.))
0
Godric was glad to be out of the disgusting, muddy part of the trek. They were now in a thickly forested area, something he was quite comfortable with. He kept his eye out for valuable plantlife, but aside from the trees, there really wasn't much of interest. The trees themselves, while each one was a magnificent marvel of nature, either weren't the right size to be ready for harvest or woodcarving, weren't the kind of tree to bear fruit or worthwhile wood, or something was wrong with the tree that made its fruit or wood worthless. They continued for a while until Godric laid eyes on a beautiful tree. A yew tree, which appeared practically flawless compared to others of its kind, and just the size to provide ample amounts of usable wood.
"Apologies, but I'd like to make another stop." Godric called out to the group yet again. When(Assuming they did) the group stopped again, he once again quickly explained the quality of wood this tree could bear, and that he was going to try to make this quick. He walked up to the tree, and began testing the wood with his hands, to make sure there weren't any deformities in the wood that he couldn't see. Soon after, he started carving the wood from the tree. During all this, he was talking with the tree, in a way possibly friendlier and more caring than he's ever spoken to his own companions.

((Shall I just assume in the future that little details about plants(Their appearance and how to apply them and such) is up to me to more or less invent if you say nothing?))
The soft mud the group had been trudging through finally began to give way for firmer ground, and Godric was thankful for that. He realized, though, that this was also the perfect place to find a few plants that were otherwise fairly rare. He looked around the area carefully, and his eyes spotted a log off in the distance, as well as the flowers growing right beside it. From what he could see of them, the light blue, three-petaled flower was a River Rope blossom. The flower typically grew in small clusters, rooted close enough together to look like one plant. Furthermore, he saw some white mushrooms with a round cap growing on the log. They didn't look particularly special, but Godric knew what to look for. There was a thin ring of light brown on the edge of the cap, which identified this mushroom as Thieve's Sack.
"Stop, everybody." Godric called out in an attempt to halt the group. Once the group stopped, Godric quickly pointed out the valuable flora just off the road and went to gather it quickly.
((This is actually a good time to ask this, because we are acquiring a magic defense booster. I remember earlier in this thread you described how strength and defense calculate into actual boosts to damage and damage reduction. Do Magic Attack and Magic Defense work the same way, or is there a different formula?))
0
((Apologies, but may I know what these River Rope Blossoms and Thieve's Sack actually mean for the party? Cause Godric certainly knows well enough that not every plant with a name is useful. If he recognizes them, I assume he knows what uses they have.))
0
((I'd bet it is weak...but don't let your guard down. It has a magic attack and MP stat, and that'd seem pointless to provide if they don't use magic. The alligator that nearly destroyed our party had a 0 in both.))
The swamp seemed to be getting deeper as Godric walked through it along with the group. He was running low on patience, and this was visibly apparent. As they proceeded, yet another monster jumped out of the grass, this time a tiny imp. Godric was unreasonably frustrated by this, yet another annoyance in his already bad day. He charged the imp with his panabas, ready to take it down in one swift strike.
0
Godric trudged through the swamp like the rest of the group. He had a lot of complaints about this, from the heat to the unpleasent feeling of the swamp, but he avoided vocalizing this. He looked back as soon as he heard Alyssa yell, and saw the alligator. That same scaled beast that nearly killed Kaleth, one of it's kind was back for more blood. Godric knew better than to give it the chance, though. "We need to move!" Repeating what everyone knew at this point, Godric made as fast a pace as he could away from the alligator. Zenowo had a decent idea, running up a willow tree. So he figured he'd try the same.
