Mine is an interesting story, but only for those actually interested in learning the reason why the white-haired sovereign is named as he is. If you asked me, my short answer would be "Because the character I created myself is named Heric." But his name origin is tied to my own.
It started a long time ago. Maybe when I was 8. Not sure. I joined my first ever online community. Neopets. As I had to think up a good username to join, I jumped to the first thing that popped into my head.
Supercute.
Of course, my brother was aiding me in creating my account, and I understood the wisdom when he said I might be mistaken for a girl with that username. So I chose instead something long enough to remember, but easy enough to say. Thus, on neopets, I am now Hereicomenow.
A few years later, we discovered a fan site with a great community on it's forums. As I know some forums are rather touchy about mentioning other forums, I shall not name the site. Regardless, the community was great, and it was my first taste of roleplaying. Naturally, my name, still being hereicomenow, was rather long, so it got abbreviated time and time again. Comenow was the most common one. I believe sometimes it got abbreviated as Here, HICN, and some others. But then, one member abbreviated it in a way no one had before.
Heric.
This name had a nice ring to it. Short, yet cool. Thus, after promptly thanking them for the new name, I switched mine to...Dark Heric. While everyone still called me Heric, I use Dark Heric, or Lord Heric, as an alternate name when my five-letter persona is already taken. Which I'm pretty sure it hadn't been taken, but still...(The Dark/Lord prefix was more a representation of preferring the dark side when it came to fantasy)
I don't remember who called me it first. It may very well have been my best friend on that forum, who addressed herself as 'Moogi'. Might have been Raven/Valka. Maybe even _johnpaul, an old RPing buddy.
If anyone recognized me anywhere else, feel free to give me a holler here or there. Also, if the place has a searchbar, just type in 'Heric'. Heck, I bet you could google my name, and find my material(Albeit mostly here.)

This is kind of interesting to me. My online gaming began in the mid 90's with mudding, and there is certainly a tendency to go through the three classic three stages of apprentice, journeyman, and master levels of play. In the game Ancient Anguish where I cut my mudding teeth, getting to level 20 quickly and efficiently sort of marked your arrival at the journeyman level, and then if you ever got to the point where you were counting how much experience an hour you were making and were measuring up to the top level players, that was basically Master level.
No one used these terms. I'm just sort of borrowing a traditional terminology because I'm all Medieval like that.
Anyhow, long story short, I do not think it is psychologically possible for the human being to operate without measuring and labeling people as to their relative abilities. Therefore, I disagree that mods that tweek functionality encourage this behavior. They just shift it to emphasize a different aspect of the game.
In the end, xp farming is going to be the inescapable measure so long as xp has anything at all to do with improving either the character or its equipment. So welcome back to xp/hour measures. Minecraft will quite possibly get to the point where you farm xp and resources to make equipment to kill bigger monsters that give more xp to make better equipment, etc etc etc.
In fact, putting together a mob engine that has the capacity to just create bigger, badder, and meaner mobs in an automatic arms race sort of cycle and that are worth more xp when you kill them would put the capstone on that particular aspect of the game.
I get what you are saying. However, my stance stays the same. I have no personal hatred of this mod, nor do I look down on anyone using it, but I do not like this mod, and could not see myself using it, single or multiplayer.
As long as it stays off of the good servers of mine, I still have no problem with it. -

This mod just encourages that. Now, it's no longer finding someone who has one, or extreme luck. Now, it's create it yourself, because it's that simple. And anyone who can't is now a n00b.Posted in: News
Probably making it sound worse than it is, but this just encourages "God kit or n00b" environments, in my opinion.
Still, a new mod for the people who want it is always welcome. I just hope it doesn't invade my servers. - To post a comment, please login.

"A necromancer, then? Good, the extra 'members' will help secure our victory." Heric stated. "Frankly, I don't mind the name, but we do deserve something better. I think we'd have to talk to the tournament organizer about that, though."
[Panserg]
Panserg was completely unaffected by Amber's reaction. Either he's gone through the scrutiny of being bizarre already, or perhaps he's just ignoring it. Either way, he continued acting like everything was normal. "So what is your power, Amber?"

"Um...i-it's $9.93" The cashier spoke hesitantly."
"Do that. I'm not in the mood for fries anymore. And I'd like my dollar and four cents back." He quickly snatched his change back, and took his now-prepared food and sat at his own booth, passing both Ronin and Celina with a simple "You happy now, Paladin?"

Heric looked at the new arrival, Revi. "Yes, this is team Dinolamppost." He spoke. "Please, explain your power." He then responded to Lionel. "Certainly, I'm stronger than whoever this friend of yours is."
[Panserg]
Panserg laughed at Amber's question, but never actually gave a response as to why he speaks in third person. "No, Panserg's third person speak is not part of Panserg's power. Panserg's power is being amazing, and the third person speak isn't amazing unless Panserg is speaking it."

((Also, about time I posted my opener myself, just was waiting for opportunity.))
Heric walked through the door of the less-than-fancy restaurant. "I can't believe I have to seek this food here, but these dollars are hard to come by, and this place is cheaper than most." His thoughts went through his head as he casually walked over to the cash register and placed his order.
"I will have the cheeseburger, no tomatos, with a side order of fries and a medium soda."
Naturally, the cashier responded with the standard price. "Your order is $12.73."
Heric examined this price, looked at the items on the menu, then realized something was wrong. "According to your menu, it's $10.97."
"Sir, the price is $10.97 plus $1.76 in tax. This is $12.73."
Heric had completely forgotten about sales tax. Compared to him, it was a relatively modern concept. He pulled out the wallet he held with him, and it only held just more than eleven dollars. Clearly, he couldn't afford the food...without some more persuasive methods. He chants something to himself silently. The cashier started coughing, which quickly progressed to wheezing and choking. "I'm sure you can give me a...discount. After all, your manager wouldn't want to see this." Heric kept his curse going with hand gestures he performed in between him and the cashier, in such a way that no one could see them. The cashier suddenly, after gasping for breath, let the order go through, tax-free. Heric still payed his $10.97. He stood around waiting for his food, while the cashier looked absolutely mortified.

Panserg looked strangely at Kayne; as if his own speech wasn't the slightest bizarre. He then put back on a smile, continuing on as if no one was demented. "Panserg's power is being amazing! Panserg never tires out, Panserg feels little pain, and Panserg is tough as steel!"
[Heric]
"An interesting power, but no doubt effective." Heric replied to Lionel, little emotion showing in his voice besides pondering. "I already know Vilks' power, And I'm gonna guess Miss Greatsword's power is related to that sword. I am Heric, and simply put, I can control water."

Panserg took a seat at one of the seats at the table. "So, Amber." Panserg addressed the woman. "How long have you been in Brinkhaven? You sound like a new arrival."

Love it! Totally an awesome idea! Though, you know, the whole Zoey dying bit is detrimental...except to Juliet, I guess...
Eh, fair enough. If it were me, though, I'd be taking sadistic pleasure in having my character be the key driving point to a demented, murderous love triangle. That's just me, though.
At the very least, though, don't kill her off until after the tournament, though. She's a participant, is she not?

Amber -> Kanye, Panserg - Um, tall ones..?
Panserg grabbed his communicator. "Hang on, Possibly-Kayne." He texted a quick response.
Panserg -> Amber, Kayne - Nothing with a name anywhere around you? You should wander around until you find something with a name or importance, than tell Panserg what that thing is. Or ask someone around, if there's anyone around.

*Am totally just saying this because Heric likes Zoey and I want to see his jealousy plot reach implementation*

Panserg received several new messages.
Kayne -> Panserg, Amber - I'm at Heric's Hotdogs now. I'll be sitting in the corner booth. I'm wearing a brown t-shirt and khakis - see you both soon.
Amber -> Kayne, Panserg - Where is Heric's hot dogs? I'm new to the city, I don't know my way around.
Kayne -> Amber, Panserg - Do you know where Bobert's Bread is? If so, then Heric's Hotdogs is right across the street from it. If you don't know where it is, just look it up online, or something. I'm not the best at giving directions.
Amber -> Kanye, Panserg - I'm afraid I don't know where that is, either. I don't know where I am, actually. I'll, uh, find a map or something?
Panserg proceeded to type a response, as he had been for a while.
Panserg -> Kanye, Amber - What buildings are around? Panserg can help you!
He held the communicator, knowing there'd be a new message soon. He arrived at the door of Heric's Hotdogs and walked in. His entrance turned heads, as compared to the casual apparel of everyone there, Panserg's set of armor was...different, to say the least. He walked over to some man in a brown shirt, as described by the message he received. "Are you Kayne?"
[Heric]
"I hope you're competent with that sword, Sky." Heric said. "So, who are the rest of you, and what's your power?"

Panserg was simply jogging along towards Heric's Hotdogs, when his communicator went off again. The roster had changed, he noticed, adding in a new member named "Amber", And A message from her.
Amber -> Panserg, Kayne- Hey, you two have any ideas on where to meet? Also, I think we’re short a few team members.
So Panserg typed a quick response.
Panserg -> Kayne, Amber - Go to Heric's Hotdogs. We are meeting there. And our team has more than enough; Panserg is worth ten others!
Panserg happily continued jogging towards Heric's Hotdogs.

Heric quickly regained his composure, and examined the group. Vilks the werewolf was here, and he knew he'd be a valuable ally. There was some weird man...He didn't know much about this guy, but it appeared the man was distracted or uninterested in the group...perhaps he isn't actually part of it? Yet he seemed to be. There was another man, chatting it up with the swordswoman...he seemed clearly head over heels for the girl, or at least that's what Heric thought. It's not like the woman was anything special, nothing stood out about her aside from the blade...not like Zoey...
"Gah! She's gone. Get over it." He thought to himself. Once again regaining any lost composure, he stood straight and approached the group. "Hello. I am Heric. Team Dinolamppost?"

Revi -> Vilks, Sky, Lionel, Heric - I don't believe any plans for a meeting have been made yet...Shall I suggest meeting in front of the Library? Unless there is somewhere else more suitable or convenient?
Lionel-> Vilks, Sky, Heric, Revi
Hello team. Lets meet at the dimensional faction, there is a sort of reception being held right now
Sky-> Vilks, Lionel, Heric, Revi - All right, on my way. Be there in a few minutes.
Vilks -> Sky, Heric, Lionel, Revi- Meet you guys at the Dimensional Faction in a sec.
Vilks -> Sky, Heric, Lionel, Revi- By the way, I'm in a red football shirt and blue board shorts. Just in case nobody recignizes eachother.
Heric decided to not respond, as he sprinted towards the dimensional faction building.
When he had finally arrived, he was exhausted from sprinting the whole way. He examined the area, but the only people he could make out specifically was a woman with a large sword and a man, presumably "Vilks", in a red football shirt and blue board shorts, just like the message said. He looked a lot more familiar now. He remembered this guy, the werewolf from the first city, before Brinkhaven. He approached the two slowly, since he was exhausted.
