I've been looking for a server to enjoy for awhile now, but none have caught my attention. So, instead, I'm just looking for someone to play with for fun. Ranging from basic survival, to adventure maps, mini games, etc. This isn't going to be a public server, rather just you, I, and maybe a few others. If you're interested, let me know.
I was interested in turning my laptop into a dedicated server for Minecraft. I'm not planning on getting a large community, but a decent server for friends and I.
The plan was, I was going to install Linux. I don't have much experience in it, but I have played with it before. I need to know a few things of course. Should I completely make the laptop Linux, partition it, or USB/disk it? And of course, what distribution would be best.

The server contains almost no plugins, but a few to prevent cheating and advantages over other players. We hope to gather a mature enough community to where we won't have to worry about ignorant people who do things such as hacking and cheating.

I like the idea, but I would for sure add more detail to the houses. (Yes, I understand they're abandoned, they just look plain and like show boxes).
I would have some kind of catch, it's good loot (but not over the top, or to much), but there's a mob you must fight or something. When I think abandoned, I think creepy and scary, monsters living there.
