I didn't actually see any performance drop at all while playing the snapshot, my ol' core2duo does a mighty 100fps in regular single player, and 100fps in this new snapshot.
I'm actually happy for this though, finally all the SMP bugs will get squashed.
on another note, just had this really really cool idea.....
Snapshots should require you to first pass an IQ test before you can get to the download. Anybody who doesn't pass, simply can't download and test out the snapshot, those that do, are at least intelligent enough to make decent observative comments/bug reports about the snapshot.
Multi core machines shouldn't experience much of a drop or even have some improvement like mine.
Them old single core machines will die in a fire trying to play this snapshot.

The framerate will depend on alot of different things on your computer, no one can sit here and tell you the best for your system.
Just sit there and fiddle around with optifine, read what the tooltips in the settings say, they give advice.

Redpower has cables which power the blocks it touches. Which isn't always convenient.
Vertical Redstone is nice and all but a Vanilla addition might be nice.
+who doesn't like more uses for slimeballs...

They didn't provide that information and it should be patched "hopefully"

My own fault for not looking for a demo or something, I didn't even see it in the search when I bought the game. I assumed the videos on here were enough proof that it works well...
I'll try change the resolution of my tv though, seriously it looks terrible....

I got it using xbox.com and downloaded on 360 just before.
Apart from the fail resolution scaling? its okay..

Don't play this snapshot, problem solved.
Snapshots are for bug testing, letting the software out into the wild and seeing how it behaves.
There is no way this is final, theres not way it wont be fixed before the release.
Simply enough don't play the buggy pre-releases.
And I see where they are going with smp and ssp being merged. Similar to what they intend to do with the xbox version and allow players to invite friends to a single player world.
They don't necessarily need a way to turn the server off, just optimize the whole process a lot more.. somehow.

The difference between a plugin and a mod is a lot, it would basically have to be re written from scratch.
I doubt the new api will be anything like bukkits plugin system. So even then it will have to be re written.

Make sure you install optifine first.
Delete Meta-Inf folder
Install the shader mod and relevant config.
If using magic launcher check if your configuration for that is including up to date and compatible mods
