Doesn't Buildcraft have some sort of detection system of its own now? I wrote the original Buildcraft add-on to do that (the redstone pipe), but I've stopped maintaining it and passed it along quite some time ago. This *is* the thread that I originally posted it on, though, so it's certainly a fine place to talk about that.

The Item Detector is intended to be used with RedPower's pneumatic tubes, not Buildcraft pipes.

Yeah - sorted it out with the pipes. It'll accept items from BC pipes but won't output, despite being connected(but I suspect that's a bc thing), which caused my confusion. Can always spit out into obsidian pipes I suppose, but that'll be another project - turns out what I wanted to do suffers from being completely impossible.

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere, but how do I use the item detector? I found a bit of documentation on the wiki but it doesn't really explain *how*, just *what*, y'know? I want to just detect when an item goes through a buildcraft pipe. It takes the item in but there's no output(hooked it up to pistons, no movement) and I can't for the life of me figure out what the little button inside does, or what the sides mean. There's a hole looking thing on one of them that I assume is the exit but other than that I am completely stumped. At this point I'm considering using a pressure plate.

Just want to say thanks, like most, because you've added gameplay to MC in an area it was lacking. The ideas are cool, but what impresses me the most is you try to balance the things, instead of going "super awesome!". 'course, that's the game designer in me talking.

Consider yourself on the list of reasons I update MC, along side the likes of BTW and RedPower.

    mods that i had : 1. No Hold's Barred Halloween 1.8.1
    2. Wilderness mod 1.8.1
    3. Modloader 1.8.1

Quick look suggest wilderness requires forge. Forge doesn't work with FL. Assuming you also installed forge, you need to choose - one or the other.

Minecraft uses no more than 50% CPU and around 2.5GB of RAM (with other programs running at the same time, Chrome and Skype mainly), without much change between when it starts and when it crashes. I have 8GB total RAM available.
Fairly certain it's not a memory issue... I've seen a lot of those "Minecraft has run out of memory" screens in the past, and this is different. I recently fixed the memory issue by replacing my 32 bit java with 64 bit, haven't had trouble with that since.

Aye that seems to be the general problem - by default, java only gets 512mb ram, and you need to expand it on 32bit systems.

As for you other problem - drain/gate set into the wall. Water coming into the air lok fills it, but it keeps pumping what 's behind it out. In the one block space behind it(with no other entrance) is a water detector. Set it up so no water - close water lock. When you want to get in, put a block infront of the grate. Water doesn;t go in to replace what gets pumped out, triggers pistons.

Groo567 - how much ram is minecraft taking up before the crash? Can you get a rough number of task manager? How much ram do you have total?

While normally the answer, FL keeps triggering one of notch's "feature bugs" for some reason.

nobody is answering :sad.gif: while i think this is the only crash report there is!

One of the mods is causing a crash before a proper error can be generated. Install FL first(with ML), then add the others one by one. Also try the mod called ID resolver

I can't seem to make a compressor, any type of tank, etc, I'm afraid that I'm opening up a can of worms (aka this possibly being asked 1,000,000 times already, like the tsunami) but is this on purpose, or could it be another mod conflicting it.

The latest version of FL is water and methane - there;s no oil, quicksand, compressors, etc. If you don't see it in TMI, it;s not in there.

I don't think there's one in there currently, but I'd like to suggest that in future versions of the mod, you include a config file that lets you change the IDs of stuff. I'd love to use it right now, but it's conflicting with other mods. (and can't use ID resolver as it conflicts with other mod files)

    %appdata%/mods/DJoslin/finite_liquid.txt

    MethaneMoving_BlockID ; 251
    MethaneStill_BlockID ; 252
    MethaneBucket_ItemID ; 452

    Bolded are the id's.

I have mods installed and want good water in minecraft and installed all :angry.gif: modloaders and stuff and then it shows the mojang logo and than minecraft has crashed or just black screen and thats it :Sheep: :angry.gif:

Fresh MC, then get the 1.8.1 versions(check this), then install ML, then FL, then delete the META-INF folder.

If it doesn't work, the problem is with your install method.

Looks like a cool mod! I have one suggestion though, and that is you override the current minecraft water with the finitewater so that previous maps can also have this great feature! I can't wait to install it!

That's not possible because of how minecraft works. You can use a thirdparty map editor and replace the block ID's, but for the mod to do it a rewrite of minecraft would be needed.

I just downloaded this mod and just tried using the sponge to get rid of the water in it but when I right-clicked it when it was empty the game went to the "Saving Chunks" screen and crashed. I had two other mods installed besides this and modloader: TooManyItems and a mod called "pullcart" (just search for if you cant find it). I also can't give you the crash log because the game quits before I can even read it. I have installed many mods before and I think we can all agree that I deleted META-INF since I was able to play the game.... and the same for modloader that I installed it correctly.

I've got TMi and FL in - Sponges appear to work fine. Try it without pullcart and see what happens.

He did not respond directly, and he showed a video SHOWING A TSUNAMI in V5, so you have failed to make a proper point. He, nor did anybody else, make it clear that tsunamis had been removed, and there is a video of them. I will upload a link in a minute. Mmmmk?

Edit: Here, take the evidence and cry: http://www.youtube.com/user/InvertedShadow#p/u/8/0x083wzFvRE

People rarely respond to annoyances, but as you're quickly heading from annoying to painful, I'll point out the bleeding obvious for you:

They are not in the current version.
DJ does not respond to direct questions often, especially when others have said the thing recently int he thread.
People ignore you because you are rude, demanding, and thus not worth their time.

    Now working on DJReader...

Edit -- Seems like I got it to find the correct path finally. I'm using Minecraft's built-in location function so it should work 100%

I got the property file finished I believe, here's what it looks like:
    WaterMoving_BlockID ; 242
    WakeWaterOnLoad ; 1
    WaterStill_BlockID ; 243
    WaterOcean_BlockID ; 246
    WaterBucket_ItemID ; 446
    LavaMoving_BlockID ; 248
    LavaStill_BlockID ; 249
    LavaOcean_BlockID ; 250
    LavaBucket_ItemID ; 450
    DoPressure ; 1
    OceanToLakeLimit ; 1024
    PressureLimit ; 128
    MaxCalculationsPerFrame ; 40
    PhysicsTickRate ; 5
    WaterGrabAmount ; 6
    EnableRainPuddles ; 1
    RainPuddleAmount ; 12
    MethaneMoving_BlockID ; 251
    MethaneStill_BlockID ; 252
    MethaneBucket_ItemID ; 452
    PipeLimit ; 512
    PumpTickrate ; 5
    PumpWakeOnLoad ; 1
    Pipe_BlockID ; 244
    Pump_BlockID ; 245
    LiqSense_BlockID ; 247

    I HATE THIS MOD!
Yes I have installed mods, and YES I have made mods!!!
This is simply what I like to call a Minecraft "Virus" all it does is make Minecraft go black!

I hate your mod, it is impossible to install!

    GOOD BYE!
    CORRECTION: BAD BYE!

That black screen is actually the fail state for minecraft's IQ test. Best of luck next time. Work on those reading skills and you'll find it a lot easier, but it's okay to need your parents help right now; nobody expects big people reading from preschoolers. :smile.gif:
