Make sure you installed Optifine before installing the texture pack. If this doesn't work try MCPatcher.
It's an issue with 1.8 and how it handles transparent pixels on items. MCPatcher or OptiFine won't fix this. You're going to have to erase the semi-transparent pixels by hand or automatically with a photo editing tool.
That's how the new Hotbar and GUI looks. If your talking about how gritty the wood looks, increase your GUI scale to Auto. It makes your GUI match your monitor rez so everything looks a lot smoother then.
I had this exact same problem on my Windows Xp computer. I found out that it was a malware program called STIJ.EXE. Go to task manager, then proccesses and click End Proccess. This will only quit it for a couple seconds though. If you want to delete the malware completely and restore your computer back to it's original glory, install MalwareBytes. It will do a scan and delete STIJ. Enjoy lag free Minecraft.

My MagicLauncher while i'm playing in-game, will crash sometimes. Even with a clean minecraft.jar. I'm on a 2012 27" iMac with 8 gigs of ram. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it.
I have this one problem on my 2011 27" iMac. For no good reason, Magic Launcher will just quit for no reason and say, "magic.launcher.Launcher quit unexpectedly." It only happens once in a while but when it does it's really annoying. It doesn't happen when i launch the game, but it happens when I'm playing. If anyone could help me, i would appreciate it.
