Agreed. Doing a physical sweep shouldn't require magic. Sweeping Edge being handle separately was a good thing.

Myself, I reverted back to the previous launcher and launch it when offline to ensure it doesn't force an update. I could find no settings yet in modern launchers that allow you to prevent force updates in settings. After the switch, my game functioned properly again.

Yes, it's because the new launcher is a dogspew. Here's what I did so that I could play the game again: If you downgrade to the previous launcher and play offline with 1.14.2, you'll be fine. Open your Minecraft folder and replace the following with older versions (provided you have older versions to copy back in): the "launcher" folder and all contents and "launcher_profiles.json". Select "play offline."
Do not play online again until all these guinea pigs here start reporting that everything is finally running smoothly. Every time you turn the game on, it will try to automatically update the launcher without even asking you, so be sure to turn off your wifi before trying to run the game. Once it's running beyond the launcher, you can turn your wifi back on to watch videos or check email during gameplay.
Again, EVERY time you need to turn on the launcher, turn off your wifi first until Mojang is done breaking the game for players.
Enjoy.

A temporary fix is to play offline after downgrading to 1.14.2 and revert back to that old launcher_profiles.json and launcher subfolder in you "minecraft" folder. That worked for me after I experienced severe issues with interacting with my world.
It didn't even ask me if I'd like to update; it just saw I was online and automatically forced an update in the launcher that broke my game. I feel you, I flushing get it.

Myeah, for some reason, the new launcher caused my mouse to be unresponsive and buggy in game only. Downgrading to the previous night's launcher_profiles.json and launcher subfolder through Time Machine solved it immediately, so it is absolutely the launcher that's causing the game to function poorly. I am SO glad I had a backup of the launcher from the previous night.
Which doesn't make any sense to me, as I'd thought the launcher is separate once you start playing, but changing launchers fixed actual gameplay.
Mouse scrollwheel response in the GUI, meanwhile, has been soft in Minecraft alone since 1.13, and no one has offered me a reason as to why. I've learned to deal with it as part of the game's "challenge" that no other game I play presents.

I'm glad all the sources I ever used will be archived at least. This forum was a major resource for me to find texture packs, mods, world builds from others to look at, etc, and when they were updated. It's really sad no new ones will be added ever again and that players can no longer add to said archiving, especially when the latest memes involve Minecraft being resurrected and exciting again. It's back, but its main communication hub for the players is being shut down? That's bad timing.
I really hope a replacement comes, but if so, I'm not sure how we'll all find out. I'd ask to be messaged about it, but that hasn't worked in years here either, Curse is a crippled interface, and Discord is a bit useless, to put it mildly, so I guess this is just the end of this level of mc player comms.
All in all, thanks for the past few years of being available for us all to find one another and one another's content we shared.

I'm really excited for 1.14, as I was for the aquatic update.
1.13 doesn't work for me outside of behaving like a laggy server (mining is impossible, my scroll wheel acts laggy, and animals jitter when they move like an ancient version of the game, for three things). After half a year away from the game, I'm now able to get back to a little recreation, and there's a new version with all these curious tools to try out! Hopefully it won't be buggy like 1.13 was for me, and I can get out of my 1.12 state to do some 1x1 swimming and experimentation with all the great new features.
And hopefully LANs will work for my family so everyone in the house can play together on our house's server without paying for a Realm...
Here's hoping!

I am so glad this was fixed. Being stalked 200 blocks in the water by a skeleton floating on its knees, who has perfect aim, is no fun. It also makes it really eerie if a zombie sinks, and the water is only 4 blocks deep. D: They won't drown and won't be burnt in sunlight, nor will zombies.
Will zombies still be able to shoot bows at you from underwater?

This is gorgeous! I'd love to have the save if you're ever willing to share it with everyone! It's dream-like!

So here's my skydome, my first big floating structure. I mostly built and mined on Peaceful during the project, and I used no mods or cheats to get a feel of what it's like without MCedit (so need to get that). That, and I wanted the skydome accessible to my original home file, sentimental fool that I am. Don't think MCedit allows that.
It was supposed to just be a glass dome that possibly would become a sphere, but the symmetry was pretty painful to get done on my own at this size, let alone rendering the glass and mining all that coal. It's lined with sandstone and red wool instead of the original glass idea. The lava floor was secondary once I learned I could transport and control lava. Not sure what I'll do with it yet. I did save a backup of when it was all sod inside and dark. That become a playdium save file where I coaxed Creepers up there and blew the heck outa things!
Have to ask, why does lava only glow on the top side? I'd altered my plans to include a lava floor, thinking it'd glow beautifully below, but alas. Also, I'm guessing I'm not the only one hoping they keep the anti-gravity sod and stone. This would be a Hindenburg disaster.
