Very nice. Could this kind of technique be used for animating a GUI?

Also as a note, the ability to pause the animation without it snapping back would be nice for viewing underarms etc. and screenshots.

I like this idea. Maybe you could put in an animation control tab with a play/pause button as well as some preset poses?

I know a .jpeg cant be animated on its own, but a .gif can. I think the fire animation is somewhere in the code, but I don't know where. I've looked at the fire.class in MCP and cant find anything about it, but I'm no good with java so I might have missed it.

For changing textures/mobs/items I suggest paint.net or any image editor that can handle transparency (not paint). and for modding I suggest using MCP. The're plenty of good tutorials around that can get you started even if you don't know any Java (like me).

    So programs to use
    *paint.net
    *MCP
    *Notepad++ (for editing the java)

If you need any more help, or don't understand something, just ask.

And as SineDeviance said, learning java is extremely helpful. Tutorials can only take you so far before you actually need to know something. Pick up a book on it (make sure it starts with the "hello world" program) and get to the reading.

I do believe that fire and water are unchanghable

    i might be wrong

I've seen both changed in texture packs. Look up the LB Photo Realism pack for example.

I'm making a texture pack and would like to change the look of fire, but I don't know how to change the animation. If anyone can lend a hand it would be much appreciated.

That's what I thought. Would anyone happen to know where that code is? I would much appreciate not having to sift through all of it if someone can just tell me.

Ok so the idea is to make Redstone contraptions more compact but still effective.

Make a Circuit Board that has a 9x9 (or bigger) crafting space in it that lets you place redstone dust/torches/repeaters inside it and have them operate normally. There can be output squares on 2 sides of the crafting space that send the current out, as well as input squares that take current in. The actual circuit board block should have the input and output sides marked.

applications of the circuit board idea:
    *making adding machines more compact
    *making machine memory compact

That changes the scale for the whole GUI not just the background image. This is what im trying to do.

See how the image is compressed into the normal size of the inventory image?
I want mine to be bigger so the screen of the Pip-Boy is the normal image size and the rest is a border.

I'm not exactly sure if this is possible, but is there a way to make the inventory image larger? I've put a bigger image in the gui folder but it just shrinks it to fit. I'm sure there's something in the java code to change it and I was wondering if anyone knows where that is or if its alterable at all.
