Wow, thanks for all the advice guys. Yes, bonemeal does work, and looking back on it that's probably how I got them to grow before. Does bonemeal work in lower light? Anyways, I'll try fix the lighting issue when I get home, it'd be nice for them to grow themselves. But as you can see there's definitely space! And the only reason I'm not using birch (or pine, or whatever other trees are out there) is because I haven't gone very far at all in this new little world of mine. Been focusing on building. It's taken me a hell of a long time just to get to the nether, because I wanted the portal in a Shadow Geyser. And I couldn't start building that until my pseudo-mesoamerican pyramid was mostly done. I'll get to it eventually. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll let you know if it works.
Here they are. They grew before, but I can't remember if I planted them before I did the next floor, so I dunno if the ones that grew before had access to the sky or not. Still, I thought that didn't matter as long as there's proper space aside, above, and light?
Thanks! Hopefully someone can answer the third question. I don't want to play without the new update, and I don't want to update unless I know it's safe. It'd be nice if the new format deals with it, that way I don't get those side effects of editing the dat file (biome reshuffling).
1. What is the new AI that mobs use, and what's the difference?
2. The building height limit is raised by 128. This only affects height, right? Or will caves now be twice as deep and expansive now too?
3. The level.dat will change. Now, I never changed mine to be able to use jungles (was gonna get around to it sometime >_>), so I'm wondering whether the new format will make messing around with an editor unnecessary, or if I should do that before using the new update?
After constructing a cell outside the barn where there's tons of space, in order to see that my plans work correctly, I moved inside the barn, to welcome the newest addition: chickens!
I finally completed my the chicken section of the farm.
Fully automated.
Bringing the eggs downhill.
Right to me.
I only have 12 chickens total (2 a cell), and I culled the other farm animals to 4 a piece total to help with lag and such :-/
Bottom line is though I have all the animals in one place.
And more than enough wheat to breed them whenever the need arises.
So the chicken section is essentially done. I'm going to fix up the collection canal when I get the plants section done, so it's not interrupting the path on the ground as it is now. You can also see a piston in the corner, but I'm waiting to wire everything up until I have all the farms in place. How I'm going to make seven separate paths and switches for everything I have no idea >_< but I'll figure it out. In other words I have some finishing touches in integrating it into the rest of the farm, but can't do that until the rest of the farm is done, but at least all the basic infrastructure is in place. Also I still have lighting issues with the barn as a whole. You can see an enderman in one of the pig cages, and I had some unpleasant surprises while constructing it.
Anyways, what do you guys think? Anything I can do to make it look better, or work better? I originally wanted iron bars instead of glass, but the chickens could stay out of the water then :-/ and so I tried fences, same thing, but oh well, glass is okay I guess.
Very nice :)Also, I cant help notice that you are using quandary texture pack. Has it been updated? as I looked on there website and it still says 1.8?
No idea, I got the pack off the texture forum here and it seems to be updated. I could be wrong though.
Nice! Is this creative or survival? I will be completely amazed if this is survival. :biggrin.gif:
Survival. While I was building up the walls/ceiling, I had to get into the habit of going to the bed to sleep through the night, otherwise creepers and such would spawn on the wall, then jump off and explode all my sheep along with me. Something I'm really not used to, because I have several islands lit up with 100's of , so I usually only encounter enemies when I seek them out, not when they dive bomb my construction site >_<.
when your done can you pm me with a download link and what it is i forget stuff easily
Sure. I'll be updating this topic periodically as each successive step in construction is finished until the barn is essentially complete anyways, and I can just throw in a download link when I'm done too.
Looking out dome this morning a new sight greets me:
A barn!
I've been working on it for the past several days. It's not finished yet, so far only the ground floor is done. The ground floor contains 7 fenced in cages, containing ten animals a piece. Two for pigs, two for cows, two for sheep, and one for wolves.
While I was building it I had a lot more than 20 sheep though to keep the wool coming :smile.gif: and the planning continues too, for instance the dog kennel was just added to the plans and built today:
It should finally provide me with a steady supply of animals. I already had sheep on my island, but I had to travel to a neighboring one for cows, pigs came from hundreds of meters away, and the wolves were brought from the edge of the map.
Anyways you're probably looking at the inside pics and wondering what's with the insanely high ceiling. With all that space, I'm going to make some compact automatic farms, so I have but to press a button and mushroom/wheat/sugarcane/cactus/eggs/pumpkin/melon will come floating down, and I'll be able to take care of all animals and plants (except trees but the whole island is an organized tree farm so...) in one building for whatever resources I need. It'll likely take the place of my current farm setup:
Which is impractically big, but can supply me for a long time on just one go. The barn will only provide a couple stacks at a time, but it'll be easier, closer, and won't lag like a you-know-what. I have the plans, I just have to build it and make modifications as needed. Other plans/modifications include replacing the roof with cobblestone, and adding something (windows?) to make the sides less plain. I also need to build an ocelot annex like that of the wolves. Other than that I think it's coming along nicely.
nice job building all that legit. I understand why you play legit. I used to create with the ressources I hardly found. But today, I add some mods that helps me building and it brings the creativity experience to another dimension. The time you take to find the ressources is time you could had save to build some stuffs. But I understand the feeling to see your creations growing little by little each and every day... and thats a nice feeling. A dome underwater... it must have been difficult to do?Again, nice builds!
Thanks. It wasn't too difficult, once I got the hang of it. I have pics of it, but you can see the method illustrated in this (outdated) pic of the one I'm working on now:
Haven't had a problem with them yet, luckily. The land above is lit up for hundreds of meters in all directions, so nothing coming down the stairs. The cave is lit up enough far enough down that nothing's coming up either. I have worried about things coming down from the trees, but it hasn't happened yet, so... In my previous ones I did have such an issue, but I hope it's not needed this time. If it is, I'll just throw some glowstone under the leaves and that should do it.

Surprised me, but I got away unharmed (barely. A while back they weren't so kind to my creations. They always show up in abundance when I'm building something and it's not lit up yet:

Thanks, it sure will. It's already looking better:
Now onto the chicken section...

So I can add some automatic farms to the upper levels.

Yeah I'm replacing it with cobble soon, I noticed that too.

Thanks guys!
Yeah, you should be able to turn the dyes into paint and have various types of painted planks. That would be way hot.
Sure. I'll be updating this topic periodically as each successive step in construction is finished until the barn is essentially complete anyways, and I can just throw in a download link when I'm done too.

Criticism, praise, advice, comments?

Thanks! Yes I did, playing on Normal. It's not like there's sharks or anything :wink.gif:

Just time consuming is all.
