And now, welcome wooden slabs as the most efficient fuel ever!
150% more efficient than coal and even better than charcoal (and makes it obsolete for fuel)!
8 wood -> 8 charcoal -> 8*8=64 items burned
8 wood -> 8*4=32 planks -> 32*2=64 wooden slabs -> 64*1.5=96 items burned

Ahh, of course, Java 8 or Java other than 7, I forgot to test the patcher there! Thanks for letting me know. This update should fix it.
Released BTWTweak v0.9k for Better Than Wolves!
https://github.com/grompe/BTWTweak/releases/download/v0.9k/BTWTweak_0-9k.jar
What's new
- Fixed creative tab display for Dung block and Packed Earth.
- Fixed patching in Java 8.

I've noticed that after the lossy iron melting update, the original Minecraft Anvil (or Dead Weight) smelts only to 5 iron nuggets for some reason!

Released BTWTweak v0.9j for Better Than Wolves!
https://github.com/grompe/BTWTweak/releases/download/v0.9j/BTWTweak_0-9j.jar
What's new:
- Removed BTWTweak stumps as they are now implemented in BTW.
- Removed termites from mineshafts, logs are now whole again. This change is due to the way stumps are implemented in BTW.
- Added stump textures for non-oak wood types.
- Changed pistons to melt down to 2 gold nuggets and 6 iron nuggets to be consistent with reduction in BTW.
- Allowed normal difficulty for hardcore (permadeath) mode.
- Allowed easy difficulty to be selected only in the main menu. It is now called "wimpy". Resets to normal after restarting the game.
- Extended maximum chat line length to 256 characters.
- Added BTWTweak version to the announcement message when connecting. You don't want to use BTWTweak on non-BTWTweak servers and vice-versa.
- When disconnecting, the player entity is removed only after 60 ticks (3 seconds). This prevents exploiting initial invulnerability by repeatedly disconnecting and connecting in dangerous situations. Make sure to disconnect only when safe from now on.
- Changed dynamite to be lit with hold and thrown with release of a button. This makes throwing dynamite more precise and much more fun! This feature is dedicated to the good old Blood 3D game.
- Dropped support for the old Deco addon.
- Added support for the new Deco addon, if glass shards are found, they will drop upon the destruction of glass blocks. Similarly, Deco stained glass is breakable like usual glass, both by rocks and by falling upon.
- Fix Deco error with losing written map item buoyancy and blow distance.
- Changed achievements around a bit to be technically possible in BTW. Ideally they need an overhaul but that's some future task.
- Made it so that sneaking would prevent falling from a rope.
- Added an ability to jump out of vehicles such as boats and minecarts without silly and unpredictable teleportation. This also could lead to
interesting contraptions with jumping out of a speeding minecart.
- Fixed small visual error: main menu buttons covering the long BTW version string.
- Backported ability for buttons to be placed on the top and bottom of the block. Unlike new versions of Minecraft, such buttons are symmetric. Also, the buttons are now placeable on any flat surface, not just full blocks.
- Added an ability to attach torches, buttons, etc. on backsides of stairs.
- Fixed (prevented) wolf cubs teleporting to player as they grow up even while sitting.
- Fixed an exploit with players escaping through the roof of Nether.
- Attempt to fix stuck glitched ghost fireballs.
- Fixed and adjusted what blocks are displayed on creative tabs.
- Added ability to add new tweak scripts without recompiling BTWTweak.
- Added ability to merge microblocks by placing them together with the others in the following ways:
- corner + corner = moulding,
- moulding + moulding = siding,
- siding + moulding = stairs,
- stairs + moulding = full block,
- siding + siding = full block,
- moulding + siding = stairs.
- Improved microblock preview to take account for the above change, and display correctly when looking at a side of a snow cover.
- Added very rare zombie spawn with axes. Beware, they wreck obstacles much faster than regular zombies!
- Fixed middle-click block picking for wooden microblocks.
- Fixed swords breaking blocks in creative like in new versions of Minecraft.

If you're following the BTWTweak changelog, you can see I'm getting ready for a new release
0
I have stepped away from this mod for a long time.
In case anyone's interested in the most recent work, here's source code adapted for Minecraft 1.7.10: https://github.com/justastranger/moreeverything

It is caused by a bug. The boat accumulates "fall distance" to fatal levels while bobbing up and down, so make sure not to hit the land vertically. Trying to dock on slabs is the most common scenario of this death.

You were right, it was a bug with the patcher. I was using more specific launching method ("java -cp BTWTweak.jar BTWTweaker minecraft_btw_mc_cg.jar >log.txt") so I didn't catch it earlier. Thanks for the report!
With that fix,
Released BTWTweak v0.9i for Better Than Wolves!
http://www.mediafire.com/download/0q9t1fis0sef1fs/BTWTweak_0-9i.jar
What's new in 0.9i:
- Restored the ability of Glass Block to contain piston packing.
- Removed the void fog.
- Refactored the patches, now it should be much easier to write new ones, also you can add your own in the BTWTweak.jar/scripts/custom.js file.
- Fixed patcher failing to remove client-only stuff on server.
- Fixed tables and columns showing moulding placement preview box.

Released BTWTweak v0.9h for Better Than Wolves!
http://www.mediafire.com/download/gqgzam9g3v3xes1/BTWTweak_0-9h.jar
What's new in 0.9h:
- If CraftGuide is found in the minecraft.jar, it will be patched so the
guide key works on inventory screens and displays recipes involving the
item under the cursor. I find it interesting the code was there all this
time yet unable to execute due to a bug.
- Added key shortcut for quick usage of /tell command for quick and
hassle-free private messaging on servers. Default on R. It will open the
chat with "/tell" + last told username.
- Fixed possible server crash when loading a corrupted world where chest tile
entity does not match the chest block.
- Fixed problem with falling out of the world causing an infinite loop if
gravestones are enabled.
- Improved microblock preview: now it supports additional microblocks from
add-ons and displays only when the block placement is not obstructed by
player or other entities.
- Added recipes for joining nether brick slabs and white cobble slabs into
blocks.
- Fixed problem where ladder couldn't be placed when standing in the same
block even though the player did not intersect its collision box (MC-9704).
This also allows placing microblocks when partially standing in the target
block; the preview feature was adjusted accordingly.

Dynamite can be thrown by hand already. As for the sling, I think it is as powerful as it needs to be right now =)

Released BTWTweak v0.9g for Better Than Wolves!
http://www.mediafire.com/download/w4usd3nwo4o1rx9/BTWTweak_0-9g.jar
What's new in 0.9g:
- Limited chicken egg incubating to one at a time. No more happily hatching stacks of eggs, unless you build a whole room dedicated to that.
- New hotbar cycling mode: fill empty slot. People who previously didn't like hotbar cycling may find this feature useful.
- Increased the chance of flint from digging and filtering gravel as it felt way too rare. Also digging gravel has higher chance to drop a loose rock.
- Extended block IDs! This means there is no more shortage of them and new blocks can be added freely. Thanks to Yhetti for pioneering the technique.
- Made Soap blocks slippery. You will have to replace and recraft soap blocks you already have for this to take effect.
- Added storage blocks for Wheat, Diamond Ingot, Coal, Charcoal, Coal Dust, Nethercoal, Sugar, Bone, Nitre, Potash, Ash, Flour (requires 9 of each). All of them can be retrieved by crafting back to items. Block of Bone can be only crafted by Hardcore Packing.
- Added Block of Flesh, squishy block made of 9 Rotten Flesh by Hardcore Packing and uncrafted by hand.
- Added Block of Sawdust, made of 16 Sawdust by Hardcore Packing and uncrafted by saw.
- Added Block of Slime, sticky transparent block made of 9 slimeballs. Note that it doesn't affect piston mechanics like it does in later versions of Vanilla Minecraft.
- Redstone and Lapis are now handled by Hardcore Packing, and all of the above storage blocks.
- Added preview for microblocks: now you can see where your sidings, mouldings and corners will go.
- Removed bone to glue recipe; bonemeal to glue ratio nerfed to 64 to 1.
- If CraftGuide is found in the minecraft.jar, it will be patched so it will not display actual compass and clock data in its GUI.
- Added support for IME input (MC-2781).

It works.
I'm playing with BTW 4.A1 "Humped Camel" + MCPatcher + BTWTweak v0.9f for the last three days, coincidental with the acquisition of a powerful desktop computer =)

Your error looks like you got client version of the GPEBTWTweak.class file in the server jar.
Are you sure you're running the BTWTweak patcher on the minecraft_server.jar with server BTW part installed?

BTW simply reduced the picks durability to 1 and 6, which meant if you attack a mob with them, they break after 1 and 3 hits. I fixed that aspect, making them as durable as shovels in attack.
I can see your point, you have aligned stone picks durability solidly in your gameplay. As for me, I usually avoid building anything too complex until I get to iron recycling, and after that use iron tools without looking back.
0
What I meant in lack of precise values, are things like
size of water pool viable for fishing,
portal infection distance,
time it takes for chicken to lay and egg, etc.
"How many stone picks are needed to dig this out" fits those.
I don't think you're doing something intended by design when you're preparing large underground complex using stone pickaxes.
Stone pickaxes are meant to provide your first hiding hole and mine out enough iron ore for the iron pickaxes.
Anyway, BTWTweak is open source, so you can modify it as you wish, although I won't support that in terms of gameplay design.
https://github.com/grompe/BTWTweak/blob/master/src/GPEItemPickaxeWeak.java
Wooden tools durability is 10, stone tools - 50, and this code makes blocks mined do 8 damage to wooden and stone picks in order to get 2 and 7 uses respectively.
0
As with many things in BTW, there's no intention to account for precise amounts and values. I consider the wooden and stone pickaxes boost as a slight bonus to balance the fact that you no longer get full block worth of stone when mining it. Increasing their durability further for the sake of nice multiples would make it too great for mining ores, and lessen the value of the iron pick
I already know one stubborn person mining lowest strata stone with stone picks to save on iron...
I recommend not counting precisely and just making a whole bunch of stone picks as you go. Less worry, more fun that way.
