I think he meant that they should have made a new design, because it's not exactly a new cape.
For the first MineCon, there was a poll. They asked the minecraft community which cape they liked best. The MineCon cape for 2012 is just recycled from the choices; it was the second most popular. Perhaps for next year's MineCon, they'll just choose the third most popular cape and so on and so forth.
Here's the source:

All and all, cool for the people who went to MineCon. I'd still prefer to use my own texture for a cape; I'll just keep using a mod. - To post a comment, please login.

You were right! Though I probably shouldn't have named the horse clad in diamond barding Bill the Pony since the horse I'm referencing was a sweet, pack animal lol. Awwww yeah!

EDIT: Thanks to Darndrakn, I figured out how to apply the name tag. Gotta be riding the horse and then right-click. Strange mechanic but I'll get used to it.
I wonder what the crafting recipe will be? Might be a string and paper; makes the most sense I think.

From the picture you provided in the OP, I personally think that the horses from "simply horses" look a bit....strange. Like disproportionate and their noses are very squashed, like their faces got cut in half.

Yeah, it's silly internet security kaspersky messing something up. I had figured it might've been my AV but then I saw that other people with Windows 8 were having an issue and thought that I was wrong with my first guess.
I'm unfortunately still having issues however. I have to disable my AV each time I want to have a go with the snapshot. I added the minecraftdev.exe to my trusted list for my firewall and applications in IS Kaspersky and my computer still isn't having it.
Hopefully it's just a bug to be ironed out since the launcher is still such a new thing in development.
Thanks for helping me figure it out!

The error report below if anyone's interested:
Unless I'm completely missing something. In order to play this new snapshot, you get the new launcher and then launch it right? And then the launcher is supposed to download the necessary files once you log in? (I never get this far, I just get the error report as soon as I open the .exe). Unlike the other snapshots in the past, there's no .jar to download?

Yeah, I have windows 8 too. I was thinking it was my anti-virus flubbing things up and blocking the new launcher's ability to download stuff. I hope dinnerbone fixes it soon-ish since I'd really like to try out horses lol.

Personally, I always saw pigs as a gag and novelty, even when we could "control" them via carrot and stick. And whatever charm pig-riding had was quickly lost to me. Though I can understand why people would be against horses since it might further devalue pigs. But honestly, until a snapshot comes out, we know next to nothing about how Mojang is going to implement horses and what sort of balances they're going to put in.

Sorry, I don't really know how to address this issue. I'm not even sure if dropping the sky0 folder into the environment folder in the .bin would work. You'd probably have to create a default texture pack to drop into the texture pack folder.
Did you patch Optifine with MCPatcher? Or did you try to patch Optifine over MCPatcher or vice versa?

All everyone is doing is assuming and supposing. For now, I'm going to put my faith into Mojang to know what the heck they're doing, that'll horses will be balanced properly. After all, it's not like they're messing around with MC just for teh lulz. Minecraft isn't just a game to them; it's their livelihood.
