I had some troubles with that automatic update thing, it wanted to update but never ever did an update even if it supposedly downloaded 2 files, so I got a new download and now the version seems to be ok and doesn't ask for any updates, that probably means I got the latest one at the moment, will report back if a new update is available and I manage to get it via the update manager
If running windows, you need to run multiMC as administrator.
EDIT: If the updater was successful, you will see a window that tells you it will restart the application and tell you to click finish to do so.
In other news, i just discovered the new FTB thingie. Thank. You. I can't tell you enough how much of a hassle it was to have to manually update each modpack by dragging and dropping any changed files. It was tedious.

I figured out it seems to work fine, hope everything runs fine once we are at my grandma house, there's no turning back, I could ask to go to a nearby town at the local McDonalds or Tim Hortons for free wifi, but its around 1hr drive to go there, or maybe if I can start that old crappy skidoo that is lying in the garage there, it starts 1 time on 10 I would say, pretty unreliable thing but it might do the job...
Well best of luck to you!

Jw, is it possible to manually install forge versions above 53 or do we have to wait for the launcher to update its list?
What do you mean by "above 53"?

And how do I test this, I'm always logged in with my normal legit account each time and it seems to download the minecraft.jar and some files each time I start it...
If you start an instance offline (can be done on a desktop by disconnecting the lan cable) then it does actually launch just fine. I've tested it a few times. Works perfectly. Sometimes it tries to validate or whatever, but there is an offline button then. Basically, the offline mode is automatic. There iis no offline mode button or whatever. It just launches.

I'm a bit outdated myself, does this latest build fix the offline issues? The version I have currently doesn't have the offline problem, and I can't update until there is a version without that problem because I need offline sometimes as one of the places I play has no internet connection.
Just tested it and it works perfectly.

how do I install forge onto an instance?
Select the instance, go to edit mods to the right of the screen, and under version or jar mods, there is a button for installing forge. Simply choose your forge version and you're cruising.

So just keep logging in and out?
Yup. It will eventually download all the assets.Quote from TeamKennedy

1. You need codeChickenCore to install NEI, which is found in the same place as NEI.
2. CCC and NEI are core mods, not Jarmods. In the same directory as the mods folder, there is a coremods folder. You can also add it in the edit mods window.
Dec 14, 2013Almost a month later and no solution posted for that yet, so I thought I might as well chime in with, there is a config option in the later versions, under general. It looks like this:Posted in: Mods Discussion
Dec 12, 2013How to import FTB 1.6.4 packs to multiMC:Posted in: Minecraft Tools
1. create a new instance of the proper version and install forge on it.
2. open the folder where the FTB launcher is at and open the folder for your modpack.
3. open the folder for your instance (the "Instance Folder" button)
3. drag and drop the minecraft folder from the FTB instance to the multiMC instance.

I don't see the point. Once MMC5 is done, it will have version editing (a functional instmods folder perhaps) and importing from the vanilla launcher would not work for that case. Also, it's easy enough to copy/paste everything over. It just seems like a lot of hassle for something a user would only ever use once and never again.Quote from russjr08
A feature I'd like to recommend!:
Importing instances from the vanilla Minecraft launcher. It would take the game directory and copy all of the necessary files / config options.
Please, update to the alpha version of MultiMC5 (check Tak_Suyu signature for a download link) if you want support for 1.6 and 1.7, but be advised that MultiMC5 is still in early development and may have problems...
Sorry here for the double post but I needed to make sure I got some attention because I replied to help someone first then I need to report something myself.
I have a small problem with a FTB pack instance that I moved to MultiMC5, some sounds aren't playing like they should and its beginning to be very annoying, a creeper just blow me up and there was no noise, but the next second, the zombie and skeleton where fine... Tested this in MultiMC4 and it seems to work fine there... I use at the moment MultiMC 126.96.36.199 on Windows 7 64 bits with Java 7 (the recommended choice when it was asked when I launched MultiMC5)
There's a bug reporting button. I suggest you use it.
The devs can't keep track of every error reported in this thread, but the bug reporting site keeps all the issues nice and organized.
