posted a message on Enchant gold items only?
Enchantments as they exist break PvP in half. Remember people saying how adding the hunger system made PvP more about skill and less about who brought the most pork chops? Well, assuming both fighters are half as competent as a puffer fish, they'll have converted their mob grinder into an EXP grinder, which means both of them are going to come in rocking fully enchanted armor, which both of them are literally invincible until their armor breaks. So it stops being about skill and starts being about who brought better armor. Not only that, but if they both brought diamond armor, a fight will literally last for hours.

So yeah, I like the idea of only enchanting gold stuff. Though, they should bump up the durability a little bit.

Programmers tend to lose interest in their projects near the end and focus on new ones.

The majestic cry of the wild ClearlyNotAProgrammer in it's natural habitat. The ClearlyNotAProgrammer flourishes on internet boards where it eats a healthy diet of telling actual programmers how to do their job. Look at that beautiful plumage!

You won't have a way of getting more flint, and without flint, feathers are useless, which means chickens are just good for their meat.

As for Enderproofing your house, dig a moat, or put water inside your walls.

    :wood: :Water: :wood:
    :wood: :Water: :wood:
    :wood: :Water: :wood:

That way, if they remove a block, the water will spill out and kill them, limiting the damage they can do.

I see that diagram about "How to Fix Your Mob Spawning in Your Crib Problem" all over the forums, and I hate it. New players see it, and build their houses accordingly and then post their crappy pictures in the screenshot forum, taking up precious first page space.

Mobs spawning in your house almost always has to do with construction and lighting. Not where your bed is, or if you have lights behind your home. I don't have lights anywhere in my world except INSIDE the buildings, and I get no mobs spawning in bed next to me.

I say delete that stupid picture.

It's also incredibly mis-leading; if your bed is on a second story, for example, you're fine, but it doesn't have anything about that. Not to mention it's pretty much just means for people who read the wiki and think that means they know everything can be condescending to people who are getting attacked in their sleep.

You got exactly what you were promised; A sky realm. It's called "The End."

Notch said "a sky dimension." You got a sky dimension. It has floating islands and everything. It isn't Notch's fault it doesn't meet your exacting specifications.

My friend and I have come to the consensus that making everything toggle-able is the best idea. Perhaps that would be to taxing on patience and time, I could not say, but allowing everything but the most basic aspects of Minecraft to be toggle affected we feel would clear up a lot of problems people are having with the changes.

Edit: Mods also pose a viable solution. Mods serve to change/add something to the game you feel is missing and if in the future people feel they want the method of game-play changed there will be mods for that as there are mods to make adventuring and RPG elements more pronounced, so too will there be mods to reduce their influence.

    Really doesn't work.

And WHOOOOO was it that chose the date for Minecon?

    That was Notch.

And WHY did he choose November?

In a pathetic attempt to compete with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but when he realized how it would never work, he scheduled it for a week after Skyrim is released.

    Wha-

    Buh-

    Zugh-

Do you seriously think Notch picked November to compete with Skyrim, a completely different game in 95% of respects which draw entirely different crowds, instead of the obvious reason, the same reason Bethesda picked their date, "because 11/11/11 is a really ****ing cool date?"

Do you seriously think than Notch then decided it "wouldn't work" (maybe because he realized the $20 indie building game and the $60 console RPG aren't even in the same market!) and moved the date to compete with Saints Row 3 instead, instead of the reason he provided, "it's really ballsing hard to find a convention center on 11/11/11?"

And do you really then blame Mojang for not being clairvoyant and not foreseeing that a crunch time may occur in the last few weeks several MONTHS in advance?

Seriously, you keep claiming that people are "white knighting for Notch" (which is not what white knighting means, by the way), yet what you just told me entirely ignores existing evidence and goes completely beyond what can logically expected of a human being.

EDIT: Also, for record, you got exactly what you paid for. You paid for the game "as it exists." Notch could never work on MineCraft another second and live in a house made of your money, and you wouldn't have any legal or moral recourse, as you got the game, as it was, the day you paid for it, PLUS all the extra features Mojang has since added.

I'm pretty sure 'Code Freeze' means 'feature freeze'. Especially since they note fixing bugs in the meantime, after the 'code freeze' which would be a bit hard without, you know, changing the code. Probably just a case of language, since English isn't either of their native languages.

To take one bit from a VERY LONG post...

I want to confirm this. The code freeze was a feature freeze. The idea being that they'd stop adding new things and focus all attention on bug fixes to make the game as polished as possible for release.

To respond to the OP, they do have a deadline. Have you perhaps heard of Minecon? The MineCraft convention in Las Vegas that MineCraft is being fully released at? The convention that was booked months ago, long before this "crunch" was hit, and probably cost them lots and lots of money? Just sayin', just because they're the publishers doesn't mean they can just go "lol naaaaaaaah lets just not release it for 2 more months."

posted a message on Double Doors
    Quote from xDMaelstrom

Lazy coding resulted in an inverted door being, well, inverted. If the right door (from the outside) is closed, then it is considered open. If it is open, then it is considered closed. So yeah, if you leave that door open, you can walk through it just fine, but no mobs will target you because of it being "open."

This also is why you have to invert one door if you are using redstone.

Of course, I haven't used a double door setup since 1.7, so I'm not quite sure.

This still applies in 1.8. If you leave the right-hand door (from the outside) open, you'll be perfectly fine, but if you close it, you'll get woken up.

Of course, this assumes that there's no other doors between your bed and the double door, like if, say, the double door entered into a foyer, then you went through another door to your bedroom.
