If the curse/forge page goes down, planetminecraft would probably be a good option.
I do have a long-standing membership there that I've never used to show off GS...just posting when some users have used my work without permission. So over the years it's come to seem like the 'enemy'. I don't really like the tone of a lot of the posts and don't like the status system. I'm a bit old for all this 'Grand Wizard' level texture artist malarkey. It's bad enough that I'm a flippin' 'Blaze Extinguisher' here!! Lol! I'm a pretty old dude now and too stuck in my ways. Look up the film 'Gran Turino' that's probably the most accurate image of me these days...without any hint of racism I hasten to add!!!
I agree though, Planet Minecraft might still be the best choice in the end if CurseForge goes down.
Holy crap this is a big deal, the forums are closing????
Agh! I'll really miss being able to check this thread...
I'm sorry to hear about the chaos you've been dealing with. I hope things get better for you
Have you considered making a subreddit or twitter account or something after stuff cools down in your real life? It wouldn't be the same obviously but it isn't too much work, and it would let us keep up a bit more easily.
Thank you again for all your hard work on one of the oldest continually updated texture packs in the Minecraft community, it's astonishing how much dedication you've put in. Even if we can't talk with you after this closing, I want you to remember there are fans who support you and love your work
the forum's shutting down? wow, lame, even though i didn't use it to converse with other people that much this is really the only place i ever looked for new texture packs and kept up to date on the ones i really liked.
I'd also suggesting making like a twitter or something for people to follow to keep up with updates whenever you're able to work on them, if you're up to making one.
whatever happens next, this remains one of my favorite minecraft texture packs, i will continue to enjoy looking at the art you've created, and admire your dedication to continue to work on it over the years! thanks glim!
Never had anything to do with Twitter, Reddit or Facebook. Reddit kind of scares me and Tweeting stuff out scares me even more and Facebook just plain terrifies me! I'm too old-fashioned now I guess for all that, but who knows.
For now, to keep some kind of contact, it'll have to be my CurseForge page that's already listed and linked in my OP here. To be clear...the link to download the latest version of my resource pack in my OP (1st post of this thread with all the fancy graphics and intro) takes you to my CurseForge page where all the latest and old versions of my pack are currently stored. At present it's still possible to post comments there. How long CurseForge will continue is anyone's guess.
TBestIG, Rosestorm and Lizeon and so many others, thank you so much for dropping in over the years, for your kind posts of support and interest. It's great that my old pack still had some interest shown in it right to the last days of the Minecraft Forums.
PS. Oh! There's also my Youtube channel. When I have the time I always like to make a vid of any new stuff I've worked on, so you can tell if something is in the works by subscribing there. Link for that is in my OP here and over on my CurseForge page.
Oh, it's been over a month and no new sneak peaks. Hope everything is fine! ^^<3 Also, you got your hands full with all the new stuff in the latest update that was just released. So much that can be punkified. I can't wait to see your ideas of how things should look! <3
Hey Glimmar, everything alright? There hasn't been much activity here
I'm still alive and kicking folks! Thank you for posting. I've been really, really busy with real life stuff I'm afraid...since January.
I haven't had a chance to do anything since I last posted.
Electron Kaleidoscope over on my Youtube channel alerted me to the fact that the Minecraft Forums here are about to close within a month. This was a complete and utter shock! I have been on these forums for around 10 years, first as a simple user and then very early on as a contributor with my one and only Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack.
I just want to say the very biggest and warmest thanks to all of you who have come along and shared in the experience over the years. I have conversed with so many of you in what is a unique an excellent environment for the exchange of ideas, support and encouragement. There will be nothing similar to these forums and Minecraft will never be the same without this place.
I am too old and too busy with RL at the moment to start over anywhere else, but if Curse/Forge/Twitch isn't effected by the Minecraft Forums closure then I will still hopefully be updating from time to time over there. Links on my first page here to my latest updates direct you to my CurseForge page anyway, so that will hopefully still be there.
My legal copyright licence here, that also comes with the pack, will still be in force, so if I'm not updating as often as we'd both like, it is not a signal for anyone to take over and redistribute my artwork.
Minecraft Forums was always my 'go to' place to meet with you all and to reliably find out info on Minecraft, to share ideas and be inspired. Nothing else compares.
Please keep an eye on my CurseForge page for updates. If anyone has any info about whether that place is also closing, and could let me know, I would be very grateful. My cursory glance over there couldn't find any notice about it shutting down too.
My thanks to Citric Squid and to you all for keeping this place so civilised and welcoming. I will miss not being able to post pics and videos and then getting your wonderful input by way of encouragement and ideas. Seriously, I have been very fortunate indeed to have such great support from all who have passed through.
At least I can say I was there at the beginning...and stayed standing through to the end!
I hope you know how much you are appreciated. So many pack makers have abandoned the game and moved on. Im so glad you are still here!
Thank you so much!
Well, one of the reasons I keep going is because of the nice comments people take the time to make here...like yours.
Let me tell you, an encouraging comment really does make a world of difference after hours and hours struggling over a llama face...seriously, no joke! For ages I've swayed between thinking my llama looks like a long-necked Alsatian dog or a giant rabbit! Lol!
I cant wait to see what you do with all the new blocks that are being added in 1.14
Thank you! Glad you like.
Lol! 1.14...and 1.13,1.12,1.10,1.9, etc. and all the old 32x textures to update too. It's going to be a long wait I'm afraid. Oh dear, I am so far behind!
There are 4 standard llamas; white, gray, creamy and brown and 8 more variations for those who use Optifine.
Currently working on all the decor now. When all is complete I will upload as the GSv23 update. The New Year is turning out to be busy in real life, but I'm sure I will be able to get this out sooner than later.
Glim. I’ve started editing your texture pack to suit my tastes. I’ve been using gimp (do you use gimp? What do you use?). I was wondering where do you get these textures for the blocks? Is there a website for them? What is do is look up seamless textures on google images to download them. Is that fine?
I am currently a personal texture pack that is largely derived from you. I’m currently editing the pink terra-cotta to resemble pink plaster walls you’d see on baroque apartments and buildings and palaces that have brightly colored plaster walls. I’m attempting to create a baroque architecture texture pack. Type into google search - baroque St. Petersburg. You’d see images of neoclassical buildings and palaces with brightly colored walls. I want to change the terra-cotta blocks to resemble those brightly colored plaster walls common in baroque style buildings. I want to build a neoclassical baroque city in Minecraft using a custom texture pack to make it look like St. Petersburg in Russia, or some 18th century polish city. Can you give me suggestion?
Yes, I use gimp mostly.
All the textures are created by me, not downloaded from other websites...yes I will trawl the internet and Google images for inspiration, but nothing is copy pasted. All seamless and random textures are created by me.
There are websites that specialize in all the textures and also seamless versions under the sun that you could wish for, but these usually always cost for a licence or per texture. Yes, there are many free textures, but these are more limited in scope. If you rely too heavily on ready made 'real life' textures, you may find it more difficult to come up with blocks that look 'natural', believable and consistent in a Minecraft cube world.
I usually also take photographs myself for natural textures like dirt, sand, gravel, etc, particularly when the sun is out low in the sky, then you get wonderful shadows and contrast that make your textures feel more 3-dimensional. It's surprising what you can collect in even the most mundane places that, by using filters and careful tweaking in gimp, can be made into any texture you want.
Well, as regards the terracotta, I tried my best to make it work as a natural dry clay material that works in the landscape for adventuring and survival, but I also had rough, aging wall plaster in mind for those wishing to use it as a building material. I think all texture artists are forced to take the middle ground for lots of textures that are found out in the landscape or they will quickly become annoying to the majority of users. To a certain extent the more you specialize in your choice of texture, the less practical it will be for the majority. This is something I have found to my cost!
The only real advice I can give, as before, is to experiment and see how it turns out when you try to build with your chosen textures. If you visited the resource pack website that Norzeteus advised you to look at, you will see there is an incredible amount of information and help there that I couldn't possible replicate. In all honesty I have little enough time for working on my own textures to be able to give any meaningful suggestions or advice.
Just remember that if you are using my texture pack as the basis for a personal pack, don't be tempted later to upload it for others to use, that's something my licence forbids.
He must have taken it from an older version of the pack as your Alex skin was removed within the last couple months, if you recall.
Oh yes, certainly not blaming you or the TheRealEmfire, it was removed immediately.
You have both been very supportive and understanding in removing the texture as soon as pointed out. Just shows though how once it gets used at some point in the past it kind of spreads everywhere.
I made a Texturepack which is based on what i liked about Misas back in Beta (with Wildgrass etc.) it currently uses a lot of Textures from the Original as well as from the patches since 1.6, some who like Misas may like it as well, even tho i only Textures i did where Blocks and some others details.
Its hard to say that this isnt advertising, so if you think that it is inappropriate i will delete this comment.
If you still want to take a look here is a link to my Planetminecraft Post:
I like a lot of the textures in this pack, and the overall design, it looks like a great pack, however, most probably by accident, you are using at least one of my textures without permission...namely the HD 'alex' character skin. I've got a feeling that this must have been offered to 'Misas HD Realistic Overhaul' at some stage in the past, so I am not blaming you.
I have sent a post to you asking that you remove it.

Sad day these forums are closing.

You are very welcome.
Haha! I do my best, some things work and some things don't, but just as you say it's all a learning process.
Norz, I knew what you meant, honestly, I was being silly at Christmas time...probably too much sherry or mead!
Hope you're having a good Christmas.
