Mar 3, 2011Is there at least one space between the wall and the bed? apparently if mobs get within two spaces of you it wakes you up and puts the mob right next to you.Posted in: Survival Mode
Basically, is it like this:
where red = bed, stone = wall, and mobs = ... mobs or
where the blank square is a space.
Edit: Fail. Missed an above post by OP when reading. Disregard.
Edit 2:Alternatively, is there a cave underneath the room with the bed where monsters could spawn?
Mar 2, 2011Similar to what was said above, but... Vanilla effectively means plain. For games, vanilla typically refers to the original version. For Minecraft, this means playing the game with no mods and (depending on the person), no texture packs.Posted in: Survival Mode
People who like vanilla tend to think that mods distract from or ruin the true game experience.
Feb 22, 2011the new texture is currently not assigned to a block. There's no tooltip info for it (the box that appears when you mouse over an item in the inventory, they exist for every block in the game, even those you cannot normally obtain), and there is for the other new items added in the update.Posted in: Survival Mode
Guessing that it's art for a block that's currently being worked on for a future update.

Feb 21, 2011The server software is having issues and is being brought back up. No actual game updates.Posted in: Survival Mode
In other news, it looks like Mojang is looking into a new server host, so hopefully these frequent downtimes will drop off in the near future.

The beginning looked awesome, with the destroyed city and dreary feel, then they made a gun, and started calling each other bro, slaughtering zombies with huge goofy smiles on their faces. And the bro-fist..... ugh. Ruined what could have been amazing.
I see humor and goofyness isn't all your ally.
IT's not even that. I enjoy silliness and humor when that is the tone you set in the beginning. What you don't do is set a post apocalyptic setting, with grisly murders and a dreary tone, set zombies up as very dangerous enemies, then shift to guys mowing down zombies with a shotgun, huge smiles plastered on their faces, laughing at the enemies that only seconds ago were their worst nightmare. Then the bro fist crap just ruined it.....
The movie was awesome, but this man has a point.

Although the individual creeper dies, his sacrifice presumably accomplishes some goal that promotes the well-being of the creeper hive as a whole, and therefore leads to more offspring for creeper society. There are two things we can assume from this:
1. Creepers, despite looking like 5-foot tall wangs, are actually completely sterile.
2. Somewhere, deep under the earth and attended by swarm of creeper caretakers, there exists a creeper of magnificent proportions; a creeper queen.
If Minecraft were to occur in reality, I'd think that something like this is most likely. The creeper is a class of some species (like bee drones) that solely exists to defend the hive.
Possibly there is another "class" of creeper - or whatever species the creeper are part of - that can "control" other things, leading to the other mobs. The chemicals used by these creatures to control the hosts are disrupted by the chemicals the body naturally creates due to sunlight, making the spider neutral in the day, however the last command still holds, explaining why spiders will still attack you if they were in attack mode before being exposed to the sunlight. Torches have a weaker effect: explaining why mobs don't "spawn" too near torches. They spawn in caves to prevent you from reaching the "creeper queen" and the rest of the hive.
Edit: Skeletons and Zombies are the remains of previous adventurers / humans who are under the control of the mind control creeper things. In addition to mind control, the creatures create chemicals that artificially lengthen life. When exposed to sunlight, the creeper things weaken and the body starts to reject them or just plain fall apart. Either path ends in the destruction of the creature and the host, which is represented by fire. Possibly water molecules bond with the chemicals created by these creatures, leading to stronger compounds, explaining why skeletons and zombies do not die when exposed to sunlight while in water.
Minecraft, now with SCIENCE!™

This. There's an error where, for some reason, it doesn't save your key bindings properly unless you attempt to connect to a SMP server.
