Yep. I can confirm that. Even on an overclocked i7 6700k, it took 3-4 hours. And yeah, you'll need to dig a long tunnel. It's a creative map so get some tools and torches from the inventory.

Great looking map, great idea, great hard work. Thank you!

You can get the WZZIP tool here: http://www.winzip.com/win/en/prodpagecl.html

It does not come with the standard WinZip.

I've been quite sick so it took me a few days. The file does seem corrupt. 7-zip cannot open it to view. I installed WinRAR and it will open and it can extract just the forest folder but it does pop up a message that the archive is corrupt. It opened in Minecraft but all I saw was a tree texture after a long pause of nothing but the stars and moon above and below my feet. I've opened archives that appear to be MAC compatible without issues so there does appear to be something corrupt about this file.

I would suggest using 7-zip and either use it to make a zip file or make a 7-zip file and users will need to install 7-zip which offers more options anyway.

    Thanks for your hard work!

I've wanted to check it out but the link seems to have gone dead. I've tried for several days now. If it is free to download on their website, as long as the link works, I think it would be ok to share it. Does anyone know where I can get a copy like an alternate link?

Wow, I have never seen a worse example of people asking if there was an update available when that question was answered in the post above, 20 minutes ago. And this repeated for a dozen pages? This forum is quite forgiving. Most forums I know would ban you from posting for a few days.

And one more thing that I need to say...

Thank you Marglyph for this great mod.
I love how useful it is for servers. I used this to give huge amounts of cobblestone to me and my users so we could create our own Great Wall.

    Keep up the good work!

No, a rant and, I hope, a realization that the people who make these mods do these mods in their spare time and do not get paid for it. TMI is an awesome mod. I especially love it when testing out building something in a superflat world, such as a mob grinder. I can test what materials work best, keep it daylight so I can see and spawn mobs I want to test to see if they 'grind'. Personally, I don't use it for normal gameplay but I might give my self diamond tools to build something faster because my spare time is limited. If I was the maker of a mod such as this, you'd be lucky if I can update it over a weekend and extremely lucky if I get it done during a weekday.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell these people to stop hounding you for the 1.5.1 update!
PLEASE tell them that you have a life outside coding a hack for Minecraft!
PLEASE tell them you are not getting paid to make this awesome add-on that they are not paying for!
PLEASE tell them that maybe they could try playing the game without cheats for a day or two?
PLEASE tell them that maybe they should not click Yes to update Minecraft right away and make sure that their mods that they obviously must have to play the game, work.
PLEASE tell them that 1.4.7 works just fine with you last version of TMI !

    Am I missing something else?

Well, I'm going to restore my 1.4.7 copy that works just fine with TMI. Easy as delete .minecraft and rename .minecraft-147

posted a message on Minecraft RC2 is Out For Testing
Is it me or is the land generation still needing work?

Some of the land was great in 1.8 and in RC2, areas of flat land work well. Rivers are nice and this seems to continue up until they meet the mountains. The mountainous areas are just too much and seem buggy trying to create, sometimes really bad. I remember trying to play some of the popular 'epic' seeds and it was tiring. Great, unnatural formations that I can't find crap. I tried a seed of 'serenity' and it was awesome. mostly flat, some smooth areas, not epic but in a 30 minute test run, I had 4 stack of coal, 2.5 stacks of iron, and some gold and redstone in the first cave I spawned next too. There were many other caves with great resources.

And where are the towns? Seems like there is either one nearby or none to be found after walking around a great distance.

    Definition: beta

In software development, a beta test is the second phase of software testing in which a sampling of the intended audience tries the product out. (Beta is the second letter of the Greek alphabet.) Originally, the term alpha test meant the first phase of testing in a software development process. The first phase includes unit testing, component testing, and system testing. Beta testing can be considered "pre-release testing." Beta test versions of software are now distributed to a wide audience on the Web partly to give the program a "real-world" test and partly to provide a preview of the next release.

This is what you are playing.... beta
As far as I've seen, Minecraft beta is more functional then any other beta program.
Originally, it was just Notch. Then it became, and is now, a handful of people. They are not a large, gaming software company.
1.8 update...I have mixed feelings. Towns sounded really cool before hand, but are hard to come by. I've generated several worlds, used flying mods and did not see a single one. I found the seed 'givemeabreak' and I like it.

Before you listen to the liberals shouting toss out that piece of _ and buy brand new technology, I suggest you talk to your friends and find someone who custom builds computers. Chances are, you'll find a used Gfx card for a very cheap price.[Don't go to someone who builds them as a business though, they'll rack you as hard as the company itself.] I got a nice gfx card for $20 from a friend who has a room full of computer parts.

Troll: Why fix something that isn't broken 'ohshit my computer is a year old, OBSELETE! Better spend another grand! -slides charge card
    There's my two pennies :smile.gif:

...but your two pennies are worth 2 quarters. Yes I have an 8800GTS I bought from a friend for $50. That was when a new 8800GTS was ~$100. Minecraft runs great!

Check this out, goto www.newegg.com, goto the video cards, choose the $25 to $50 range. 117 cards to choose from covering AGP, PCI-E and even PCI! Yes, P..C..I.. 40+ have Free Shipping and Mail-In Rebates. There's no way one of these won't solve your problem.

P.S. Any of you telling this guy to buy a new PC, SHUT THE HELL UP!

I was strictly a PC gamer. Consoles sucked. Then, PS3, XBOX 360 and the Wii (yes, the Wii) came out and the graphics were impressive. A console finally had better graphics than my PC. The PS3 does not need to be upgraded everytime a game comes out that can be gotten for both PC and PS3. The PC? Sure I can still play this new game, but at 30FPS and video settings turned way down. I guess I need to replace the video card I got 12 months ago for another @ $150 (and that's mid-range for a gaming video card). This new game and the ability to play it has cost you $200. In what would be a lifetime span of a console, I could spend ~$1500 just on PC hardware. I might save a little with ebay.

My 2GHz, 2GB RAM laptop does me just fine with web, facebook, video and yes even minecraft, while I sit on my couch. For 95% of people out there, that is enough.

Currently, javaw.exe (Minecraft) is averaging 25% CPU and 1.5GB RAM. My PC is a Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz 8GB Win7. That's to put it into perspective.

There are the video settings you might have to bring all the way down

    Options w/o upgrading
There are command line options to tweak performance. You would be better off and downloading the minecraft.jar (go to download link and click 'Show all platforms'), and use the command line options on the minecraft.net to start with. (java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame)

-Xmx and -Xms can be tweaked and even brought down a bit, though 256MB would be pushing it. Search these forums for more command line tweaks.

    Options w/ upgrading...
If CPU and amount of RAM are decent (2GHz P4 & 2GB RAM) then you have a better chance with a new video card. Lower end PCI-E cards can run 30-50 dollars and lower with mail-in-rebates. I upgraded my Media Center with an XFX ATI 59xx, fanless for $25 after rebate because it could fully hardware decode x264. It would be good for Minecraft. This is of course if you have a PCI-E slot in your PC.

    Try Linux (if you dare!)
Linux Distros primary video system relies on OpenGL where Windows is DirectX. Using OpenGL is how Notch allows Apple and Linux users to play minecraft. Linux Distros are free of course. If you're new, or even seasoned, user of Linux, go for 'Linux Mint' distro.

Why do I recommend Linux? Because my Dell Latitude with 2GHz CPU and 2GB RAM w/ Intel 915 integrated video with Linux Mint using openGL, plays much better than Windows. With Linux Mint, you can play practically any video out of the box.

In any case, you will want to upgrade but it does not have to cost a lot.

posted a message on Are you starting a new world on the 1.8 update?
A couple of things to keep in mind...

I believe Notch has always said not to become too attached to your world.

The game is still in beta so I never expected lands generated in alpha, or beta, or the newer beta generated to co-exist in the same world, and yet they do. I don't expect for them to work in the final release and no one should be upset about it. Notch has done an excellent job with Minecraft. The game has been 99% stable since ALPHA! I've never had a detrimental bug. There was one that gave me a crap load of arrows though :-)

There are apps created by good people working long and hard, that allow copy and paste of sections of worlds to be copied to another. Some apps allow you to build structures in a simple CAD-like program. You should appreciate their work and even donate for their work, even if it is just $1. 100 people giving $1 is enough to cover the Mountain Dew!

There are apps/ways that you can edit your inventory. If you have large structures that took a long time to gather stone, wood, etc. just use these apps/ways to replenish yourself in the new world and rebuild. Maybe even improve on what you have. I legitimately made a large evil castle out of obsidian and lava that took a long time to gather. I don't have a lot of game playing time so I plan on giving myself lots of obsidian in the new world, if I feel like doing it again.

I will be starting a new world, hopefully finding the right seed that has as much resources as my current one does. The game started out with you being thrown into the wild with nothing but the clothes on your back (or whatever your skin has). Kinda cool to re-live that.

    My big question...
Will current seeds generate the same worlds but add the new features? I love my current one.

If I have to create a new world, no big deal. I just take what I've gotten inventory-wise (not a lot of what I've used to build) and give it to myself. Case in point, in the old alpha, I had two stacks of diamonds (had really cool veins of lava caves full of good stuff). After new world generation, I had a hard time finding a dozen or so. Semi-cheating, semi-not. If this 1.8 is to be what is promised so far, I might just my start fresh!

I'm hoping that this will be more of an 'Indiana Jones' sort of thing and not too RPGish. Adventuring to towns where talking to these NPC's mention a dungeon where the moonlight shows the entrance kind of thing or some artifact can be found in ruins. Just as long as this doesn't get too complex.

Probably wont, but I hope seeds will result in the same land generated. My seed gave me a stack of iron and a bunch of coal and some gold and redstone in the first hour!
