About the french localization, there are still a couple of points that bothers me :
    - Soulsand. Some dudes on Youtube used plenty of translation : "Sable aux âmes", "Sable des âmes", "Sable des damnés", "Sable damné"... I don't know which one would fit best.
    - Glistering Melon : to keep the medieval tone, I used "Pastèque scintoillante" instead of "Pastèque scintillante", let me know what you guys think.
    - Creeper. While it may be silly to change the iconic name to "Cripeur", it sounds the same and even have a similar connotation. So I don't know, it would be a pity to miss such a perfect translation.
    - Ghost/Ghast... By following the same logic, Fantôme/Fantâme ? The connotation is even more fitting than the original, but it sounds very silly.

Horrible, yes. People think about translating word by word instead of translating the general idea.

If that doesn't work then compare it to the vocabulary of NOTCH.

Exactly. If kids at school could speak as properly as Yogscast does, I bet school's teachers would be glad! The problem is when you swear because of your lack of vocabulary.

To some people, watching stupid shows on TV like "I cheated on you with your Mom" or "you're not the father of my 4 children" is never a problem, as long as there is no swearing. What a joke...

Swearing is not THE main problem. We have to consider everything. Based on that, I think Yogscast should apologize, and that's it.

I think it's BS. When I compare the vocabulary of Yogscast compared to what I hear everyday, I find their videos excellent. Yes they can drop some f-bombs but when it comes from 2 guys who have an excellent talking, I don't see the problem. My kids could be exposed to that, no problem. It's not like a movie in which a guy has 4 words of vocabulary and 3 of them are curses.

    p.s.
As I said, even this forum is host on curse sites...

Notch is obligated to reprimand the Yogscast. However, the manner in which he did so was unprofessional and needlessly ambiguous. Yes, Simon and Lewis should have been more careful. However, if Notch carries a grudge about something so incredibly trivial, I would lose a lot of respect for him. This should go no further than the Yogscast's short apology.

The parents who are overreacting to this are clearly unaware that their kids are exposed to this kind of thing from the Yogscast AND Notch on a daily basis. Notch is covering his ass.

    Good point. Agree.

I have a lot of respect for Notch as a developer. He had a good nice ideas and a wide creativity. But it doesn't make him a role model in everything.
He certainly has qualities but I would be disappointed if he were mad at Yogcast. Those guys brought him a lot of people and I bet it is because of their videos that Notch decided to invite them, with their style and their way of presenting a video.
It reminds me Johnny Depp. When Disney asked Depp to be the pirate in "Pirate of the Caribbean", Depp wanted to act as he did. But Disney wanted something more traditional. And Depp said to Disney that if they wanted him to play the role, it would be done the way he wants. Or they would have to choose someone else.

Yogcast at Minecon, it's quite the same: you invite and ask them to present videos, you can expect that they are going to present the way they are used to presenting their video.

And finally, don't tell me that kids heard these f-bombs for the first time in their life... they use them everyday. The only people who could be annoyed by that would be the parents.

    p.s.
And God dammit, this forum is host bu curse, what else did you expect? :-)

    Quote from Cheimon

Yeah, I bought the game in alpha when there was no guarantee the game would ever even be completed. I'm very happy with the fun I got out of it/get out of it, so...no, I'm not worried that the Mojang team isn't as fast as they might be. 1.8 will come out when it comes out..so stop being so self-entitled and realise when you purchased the game there was nothing to guarantee regular updates at all.

    Exactly.

People don't realize that they have had the best deal ever by purchasing MC for 10-15 euros.

Try to divide the duration of your enjoyment by the price; you will see.
    - a 2 hour movie ? It's about 5 dollars/hour
    - gsmes I have paid 50 or 60 euros? I have never played them as much as I played MC.

I have been playing MC for more than a year, it never happened before. Why should I blame Notch or Mojang? I should rather thank him for this game.

I bet a lot of people are complaining because Minecraft is pretty much the first (perhaps the only one) game they paid. They expect to play it for ever.

Do I have to remind you that we bought the game "as it was" ?
He could just stop developing this game, after all. I sometimes think that that is what he should do...

10 euros for a game I have played for more than one year... it has never happened to me so far. That remains my best deal ever.

Use Cobblestone, ghasts can't destroy it.

Absolutely. I gather a lot of cobblestone when I'm mining and I use them in the Nether.
I just build stairs until I reach the lave level and I make a path in order to reach all the glowstones I can.

First thing I do is building a room around the portal in cobblestone. After that, you are protected, and you have time to do what you want.

I paid like $10 for this game a year ago.

Since then I have probably clocked in at least a hundred if not way more hours playing.

I've payed $60 for "complete" games that I've thrown out a day or two later.

    I agree.

It's not Notch's fault if people look MC as a game that should be played for ever. As I said before, when I pay 10 dollars for a 2 hour movie, compared to MC, that's very expensive. I have been playing this game for about a year, now. I've never done that before.

    Thanks Notch, thanks Mojang.

posted a message on 1.8: new chunks or new world needed?
Thanks for the replies, guys. It's good, I have free space (lots of chunks) around my "city". I know that restarting a new world would be much better but after all, I just have to walk for 2 or 3 days in a same direction and it will be like a new world. I will just connect them with a long underground railroad.

If people were 10% as demanding as they are of Minecraft in other games, they would be pissed of to know that BF3 won't offer provate servers, that Steam requires a permanent access to Internet (and I'm not talking about those mysterious things that happen while you don't play with your connection, etc.)

God damnit, I paid 10 euros (alpha) for a game that costed me a movie. But instead of having 2hours fun, I have been playing for more than a year. Thank you Notch. That's it. I bought games like Fifa07 a long time ago that I even didn't play for months. I didn't write anything on a forum to say : you owe me a good game so don't go to vacation and work on this **** game.

What about the applications that people buy and that are not updated any more?

It's just a game, for the price I paid, even if the development stops. I would never have to regret this money (but I regret a lot of movies I've seen... and that costed me much more than Minecraft)

posted a message on 1.8: new chunks or new world needed?
Since I don't really want to start a new world (lots of houses connected by trains), I was just wondering if I just could leave my constructions behind me and go a little bit further in order to generate new chunks with the new features that comes with the new version (new biomes, villages, etc)

Or it won't work and I will have to start a new world from scratch in order to get the new stuff?

I don't really like when people try to find excuses to Notch all the time but this time, I don't understand your logic.

Why did you buy the game when it was specified "you are paying the game as it is today" ? Did you think it would get better? It sure did since the alpha. So what?
Is the game gonna be what you expect? No. If the game is like I want, it surely won't please to somebody else, etc.

But I do understand one thing: your frustration to see that the game WE love could be much better. Personnally, I don't really care about the new content, I just want to get rid of all the bugs. I'm sure the modders will do the rest.
