You're absolutely right and I feel silly now. I completely forgot they existed and they look the same.

Jan 17, 2013Ghost8700 posted a message on 13w03a Ready for TestingThe only awkward thing about putting a dropper next to a chest is... when you open the chest it turns on the hopper.Posted in: News
My solution for now would be to put a hopper as a buffer between the two if you want the dropper to only be influenced by an outside signal. -

This isn't adding vertical half blocks. It added the ability to place an upper half block or a lower half block based on where you click.

Jun 7, 2012Ghost8700 posted a message on Snapshot 12w23b Ready For TestingJust should be clear. Half blocks on wall isn't vertical half blocks. It's just that the block is placed in the top half or the bottom half depending on where you click on the wall.Posted in: News

May 5, 2012Ghost8700 posted a message on Snapshot 12w18a Is Here For Testing!wow... so many people don't understand the concept of a local server.Posted in: News
Once it's done it WONT be online. You wont even need to be online. It will be completely private. It will actually work EXACTLY like it does now, except you will have the option to invite friends to join you. (You would have to be online to invite obviously... but that's all)
That's it, nothing more and nothing less. Once the feature is done it probably wont even lower your framerate. You can't judge based on this snapshot alone, it's not the final update.
Anyone who has played Quake or Call of Duty should know that those games ALSO have a similar local server system. Most multiplayer games do. Yet they're private and they don't have any worse performance in singleplayer than they do in multiplayer.
(Those two games also have plenty of mods and custom content. It wont break anything once it's sorted out and complete)
Basically, stop complaining. - To post a comment, please login.

I have it running on 3 separate computers here. It must be a problem only a minority face, but they're vocal enough about it on the forums.
It's good that he fixed it of course. I'm just stating that the problem can't be as rampant as it's made out to be. It's running fine on a single core laptop, dual core desktop and a mac of some sort at my house between 3 different people.
I also have to point since someone mentioned "primitive graphics". There's isn't much to the game in terms of vertices and textures, so it LOOKs primitive. However the game still needs to keep track of hundreds of thousands of blocks, updating them accordingly as you move. It's not an issue of how much memory your card has, it's all about the processing speed.
A lot of SLi's setups overheat when faced with a bigger workload. I'm not sure what it's doing on the world selection screen, because unoptimized code or not.. it shouldn't do that. I almost doubt you on that statement.

Naturally I feel Strongholds should be the earliest structures, then events had torn the world apart causing ravines. Then someone mined.
So, the generation should likely go in that order. If intersecting structures could effectively be transitions it would look awesome.
Like a stronghold ripped apart by an earthquake (ravine). A mineshaft with a bridge through a ravine and then digging an opening into the side of a stronghold and stopping. I would look more natural. The land would look like it has history and a story to tell.

An 8 minute buff becomes 6 minute, etc. The only benefit is that you can give to allies with a splash potion.
In singleplayer I avoid all splash potions except for debuff and damage potions.

Breed the animals and take care of them. Put them in a pen and get a wheat farm going to feed them.

Ummm... no. Not at all.
They added those items BECAUSE they were adding a potion system.
They weren't included in the same update because the potion system wasn't completed. But it was fully intended.
Don't make stuff up when you really don't know. Better to be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and prove it.

Unless you disable the portal in the Nether. You have to make a new portal over 512 blocks away in the over world. Otherwise it just uses the same portal again.

There's the problem.
First of all, he's not making the game for the customers. He's just making the game and the customers are deciding to buy it. It originally began as a hobby and something to do in his spare time.
Also, a few very vocal threads on a forum by a small collective hardly constitutes 99% of the community. In fact, I would go as far as saying that the vocal few are probably closer to 1% or 2% if I were to make an educated guess.
Lets face it, well over a million players and at an estimated 2% that's 20,000 people. I doubt there's even that many who frequent this section of the forums. Even then, not everyone on the forum are bad mouthing the changes and updates.
You could never know exactly how many people are in favor of these updates unless a widespread poll was put out there.
Unless the game is absolutely broken and you can't play it. You can't make demands, at all. You can make suggestions, but you have no right to demand anything.
Have you ever heard the term "All sales are final".. yeah, that applies here. All sales are final. Suck it up and stop playing if you're so displeased. You've spent your money, now move on. I hate to make it sound bad, but it's the truth. You're not going to get your way.

Actually.
Major Version . Minor Version . Revision
1.9.4 is..
Major Version = 1
Minor Version = 9
Revision = 4
1.10 is absolutely correct as it would be...
Major Version = 1
Minor Version = 10
Revision = none
It's far more likely that the full release will be 2.0. I think the talk of a 1.10 was before his current plan to push straight on to release. Seeing as how the release will mark a new major version.
But viewing version numbers as actual numbers is a very quick way to get yourself labeled as an idiot. Plain and simple. Besides... when was the last time you saw the number 1.9.4 or 7.6.3 ... two decimals in a number? Really, use some common sense. It's NOT A NUMBER.

You honestly come off as a spoiled brat.
Notch is doing what's best for the development of the game. So it's in the best state possible when it's RELEASED. It has nothing to do with pleasing you. Get over yourself.

Essentially, It doesn't pay off to sit in front of a mob spawner grinding out levels for an enchant when you could just get the job done.
Like it or not, the suggestion to treat it as a side perk is better. It's also the more efficient way to get things done.
Really... who ever said you HAD to get the right enchants before getting the job done. You don't. So don't do it. Just grab it as it comes.
Perhaps when boss fights are implemented you will have a method to get experience boosts and you can farm out enchants then.

We have no right to tell Notch how to manage his game. He began it as a hobby and did what he liked. We merely paid to experience the fruits of his labor. That doesn't mean we have any right to dictate how he should proceed. The fact he made money is merely chance in the grand scheme of things, it still and likely will be his hobby for a long time. We have no right to interfere.
We have a right to voice our opinions because it doesn't interfere with Notch. He can pick and choose what he will listen to. Notch has a right to make his game how he wants, he can do this because it's his property and he can do as he wishes with it. What people fail to understand is that your rights extend to the end of your nose, no more and no less. Your rights should never interfere with another person's rights. EVER.

I think some of the issue could also of been avoided if Notch had been able to lay out a loose road map. Something to let us know where the game will end up and what he feels it should look like. If he wanted to have a game that included seasons, potions, levels, enchants, boss fights and so on from the beginning. Then maybe people wouldn't of been so opinionated when they were finally included.
We honestly don't know how much of the development was clearly laid out ahead of time. Instead we base the development entirely on what we see through tweets and actual patches. It appears to be haphazardly thrown together, when it's likely closer to the opposite.

I understand you can fill a vial with water from it 3 times. but if I had a 1x1 puddle of water I can do it infinitely.
I'm assuming for now it's for something that isn't quite implemented. Perhaps eventually we could use it like cakes, but for mushroom soup or for a long term supply of potion buffs.

Here's something you obviously aren't remembering. Boss fights aren't in the game yet and neither are functional villages. Both may prove to be valuable XP sources.
Seriously... even though Minecraft isn't technically an RPG. When was the last time you played an RPG and boss fights or quests were worth LESS than monster grinding? It doesn't happen (or shouldn't). The fact is, you're only using a fraction of the final XP income you'll see.

That's ********.
DLC extends the life of games and is what's keeping the modern gaming system up. Everyone demands more content, but it costs money to make.
If DLC ruined the system, then why are people buying it? You obviously lack critical thinking on that subject. You're voicing an opinion based on your own personal prejudices and not reason.
If something makes money, then it's both wanted and valued appropriately. That's how it works. There is no other way around it. Period. If DLC makes money, it's wanted and valued appropriately. Period.
EDIT: I would also remind you that money Notch makes is what allowed Minecraft to get to the state it is in today. So before you trash talk the guy for wanting to make money, you need to remember that he's taking it and spending it on making MORE games. He's yet to mention a Minecraft sequel and he's definitely not using focus groups or trends to make his other games. He's doing what he likes on his own time, that's not the path to take for greed.
On a side note. I could easily see DLC affecting players only. Perhaps player modifications like capes and specialized skins with new effects and so on. Any DLC that affects gameplay will only splinter the community as servers with and without DLC are separated. I'm almost certain a gamer like Notch realizes this and would never add anything that would force a separation of servers.
