posted a message on You can play Minecraft on this kind of pc.

I've played fine on a Mac mini with a 1 gHz G4 PPC, No graphics card and only 1 gB RAM. Last I played on that was 1.11.2 version.

The villagers in my trading hall restock just fine although they have no available beds so I would say no.

Yes, at least for ordinary mobs that walk (as opposed to flying or jumping) but it isn't reliable because if a mob is pushed onto a rail they will no longer be seen as an obstacle (including other rails, not just the one it is in), so it is only useful for individual mobs (this can be compared to mobs that avoid sunlight; while they avoid it they will pathfind through sunlit areas if they are already in it, same for mobs that avoid water, lava, or other hazards).

That leads to some very interesting thoughts. Gives me some new ideas for base and village building.

This is because the pathfinding AI was specifically coded to avoid rails (they will pathfind over rails if they are pushed onto them, usually when there is a group of mobs), a feature introduced in the snapshots for 1.5, released over 7 years ago:

    https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_13w04a#Mobs_2

The same also goes for other blocks, like doors and trapdoors (this is from my own modded PathFinder class but the rails, doors, trapdoors, fences, and walls are vanilla behavior. The latter two already do block mobs due to their collision box being 1.5 blocks high but this ensures they don't actively try to get over them since they see them as being only 1 block high)

Not really up on my Java and can't tell from the code snippet, but does this apply to all mobs, and does it imply that even livestock can be blocked by a rail track?

posted a message on Slime Farm AFK Spot
    Quote from TheDonut_TV»

I've made sure to light up every cave near this thing and I've heard about the 24 to 32 block distance, I just don't quite understand it.

Could someone please either explain this using some example so that I can apply it in my own world or just give actual coordinates for my farm that would work as a good AFK spot? (Just to clarify, it's only one platform spanning two chunks, with the coordinates of two opposite corners being -768, 6, 848 and -799, 6, 863)

Consider this is a 3D grid:

Spherical distance means 'what is the radius of a sphere with one point on center and one point on the surface'.

Assume you place your position at (-736, 6, 848). You will be 'AT LEAST' 32 blocks from any part of the area and you will be slightly over 64 blocks from the far corner 'Spherical'. At (-784, 6, 816) you are still 32 blocks from any part of the area and a bit over 50 blocks from most distant part 'Spherical'. At (-784, 38, 856) you are again 32 blocks from any part of the area but most distant part is only about 37 blocks away 'Spherical'.

All these distances are fine. Of them, I would personally choose the middle one as travel in plane is just simpler than going vertically.

posted a message on Zombies in abandoned mineshafts

While clearing out a mineshaft recently, I discovered something I hadn't noticed before.

I was standing in a tunnel waiting for a group of zombies to come toward me. There was a rail track down the tunnel with one of the support structures across it. When the zombies came to there, they would not step onto the track to go under the arch. I walked right up to the arch opposite them and they still would not come through to attack me. I knew they could not spawn on track, but is there a restriction of them even walking on it also? There is plenty of room for my character to walk through, so why won't the zombies?

posted a message on I'm looking for tips related to navigation/exploration using only 2 chunks of render distance.

Can't imagine a system that will only support a 2 chunk render distance, even my old core-duo with no graphic card would do a lot better than that.

Anyway, F3 would have to be your savior in that case. Not only does it allow you to get your location in X/Y/Z but the cursor becomes a 3 pointed device pointing in the 3 directions in other words, one color (red) points east, one points south, and the third points up. Also one of the lines in the displayed data says which direction (angle in degrees from South) you are facing.

    Quote from Jancrash»

I'd say Fletchers since they can have the "32 sticks for one emerald" trade. 32 sticks in eight logs, so it should go by very quickly (unless you're growing Acacia).

This is a very good trade, but fletchers are a rare breed in all the villages I've visited. In fact, I only recall finding 2 in all the time I've been playing Minecraft, but nearly all villages have farmers.

Really depends on what you have to sell. Early on that's probably going to be some farm product so I almost always start with a Farmer. Check out the local villages and see what they want to buy.

posted a message on Different Nether on the same seed?

One way to generate a larger nether region map may be to open a world with the seed you want to use in creative mode, go into the nether and fly around to cover an extended area. Then swap out this DIM-1 map for the one in your overworld. Although if you extend past this area new chunks will be added using the true world seed it should be able to create quite a large altered zone easily.

I used this Creative mode method to locate some soul sand once in a world where I couldn't find any patches of it after many hours but did not switch out the DIM-1 file, just used as a mild cheat because of frustration.

posted a message on Villager Crop Farms 1.15+

They apparently don't need a bed or even roaming room to trade and update their trades. My trading hall made in 1.14.4 but just upgraded into 1.15.2 still works just as before. Villagers are confined in a 1 block space but with the trapdoor overhead as shown in Pixlriffs' vid where he updated it from 1.13 version.

Why do you personally want to kill the endermen? If just for the pearls, then a design like Snocrash's 'Flushomatic' will kill them too and you will get stacks of pearls along with the other loot.

That is one of the craziest looking things I've ever seen in Minecraft. The sheep can eat the grass covered with snow, but it doesn't damage the snow. The grass block retains it's snow cover even while being grazed on.

posted a message on I understand the bee pproblem

I am now certain about what is happening to the bees.

I just went over to a swamp to get some slime balls and saw firsthand what was happening to the bees. This was in newly spawned chunks so it was in first day arfer generation. I saw my first bee ever buzzing around the blue orchids and as evening approached, it seemed to just wander around at random for several minutes and then just poofed out in ae little cloud of sparklies. A minute or so later a second bee did the same thing. Both of them were loaded with pollen and should be going to the nest but apparently they get lost if they travel too far away to hunt flowers.
