posted a message on Newbie Needs Some Help Please

Are you playing in single-person world or on a server with others? When I played in multi-person I also found the nether wart was all gone from 3 separate fortresses so I had to beg a start (you only need 1 piece to start multiplying it) from another player.

If you are in single-player world I have never seen this problem so must be a glitch of some sort, But get the world seed (type /seed ) and create a CREATIVE MODE world with same seed. You can then fly around safely and hunt some up elsewhere then go back into your survival world and go get it.

posted a message on Question on DIM1 folder

When is the end world actually created? When the portal is activated, or when you enter it?

Will emptying this folder recreate the unvisited end even if the portal has been activated?

posted a message on Any "older" folks play Minecraft?

I think I've answered this thread 3 or 4 tines as it keeps getting revived. I was the oldest in the forum when I answered first time and may still be, I was then 73. I'll be 76 next month and still play most every day.

Just upgraded to 1.14.4 a few months ago, and getting used to all that's new to me. I generally play single player worlds, but am also on a multiplayer server with friends, often joined by my son and teenage granddaughter.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

Extended my transit systam near the nether ceiling to 3 more portals. Now have 8 including my frontier bases at 1K to 1.7K blocks from overworld base, the connections to my local archipelago outposts, and now a portal in my closest stronghold right outside the portal room door. Am starting to install the rail tracks for the more distant locations to speed travel even more.

I find it a strange philosophy that allows you to kill pseudo humans ( zombies, skeletons? ) but not a chicken. An apparent irrelevancy?

If you kill a zombie chicken jockey , most often the chicken dies also and drops feathers. That's the only way I got feathers on an all ocean biome world.

posted a message on Bamboo? No problem!!

I was worried about getting enough bamboo to make a reasonable amount of scaffolding as a mapping program showed no 'Bamboo Jungle' biome within 20,000 blocks in any direction, but managed to find 3 sticks in a shipwreck chest. Man is that stuff easy to multiply!

From those 3 pieces and 16 bones (made 48 bonemeal) in 5 minutes I had over 2 full stacks of it. Planted the 3 pieces in sand, threw 5 bonemeal on each plant and then harvested. Replanted 3 and repeated. This is so easy and fast, it's not even worth the time to make an auto-farm except maybe for the fun of it.

posted a message on How can they do that?

No, I'm on 1.14.4 called 'Latest Release' on the site. Nearly drove me crazy trying to find those blasted guys but at least, one dropped a crossbow so I finally got the accomplishment for firing one. Now to just kill a pillager with it to get the next one.

posted a message on Fast way to replace blocks in survival?

To remove wood faster you need an axe.

A pickaxe is only a bit better than your hand. Also when you get further along, the enchantment 'Effeciency" either I. II, or III will really improve it more. Make a stone axe and you'll be a lot better off untill you can make an iron one which is even better.

posted a message on How can they do that?

I just had 2 pillagers spawn inside the foliage of a tree about 8 blocks up in the air. I had an oak tree in the giant form just outside my base door and I kept hearing pillager sounds every time I went out. Hunted everywhere and even dug down 20 blocks to see if I had missed a cave but finally found them in the tree. As I swatted at the foliage to clear it 2 pillagers dropped out. Thought mobs could not spawn on leaf blocks. Was this possible because of the branched of the large oak?

Now I have to work again to replace my lovely tree. Generally takes quite a few plant/harvest cycles to get one in the giant form.

posted a message on Nether portal spacing

Since the coordinates are divided by 8, portals closer than 8 blocks from each other in the Overworld are likely to point to the same coordinates which would make it hard to have them connect reliably to different portals in the Nether.

40-70 blocks apart is no problem as long as you make sure that each portal is the closest one to the converted coordinates of the portal you want it to connect to. And you'll have to build the portals in the Nether yourself since going through an Overworld portal closer than around 1024 blocks from the converted coordinates of an active portal in the Nether will send you there instead of creating a new portal.

A portal in the Nether has to have the X and Z coordinates within 16 blocks of the converted coordinates of a portal in the Overworld to send you there, so going in that direction the Y coordinates won't matter at all.

When going from the Overworld to the Nether you'll have to make sure that any height mismatch isn't great enough to make the wrong portal the closest 3D distance from the converted coordinates or it will send you to that one instead.

    The 3D distance is the Square root of ((X1-X2)*(X1-X2) + (Y1-Y2)*(Y1-Y2) + (Z1-Z2)*(Z1-Z2))

Ie: square the distance East to West, add that to the square of the distance North to South and the square of the distance Up to Down and take the square root of the sum.

All of my portals in the overworld will be very near sea level (63) or up to a max of about 90, and all of them in the nether will be at my transit system level (120). It's going to be very unlikely that elevation will be a problem, unless I build a portal on my MOB farm which is at elevation 196. Been thinking of doing that to get out of climbing up everytime I need to unload the take.

After I built my first portal to the nether and mined from near it up to the level I use for a transit system, I always build the overworld portal and activate it but don't enter, and then build the corresponding one in the nether to make the first link from that end.

posted a message on Help out a newbie regarding biomes!

Actually they are fairly common in forest biomes as well. You can find out more in the Minecraft Wiki. Also there are a group of programs (mild cheats to use Ha Ha) which allow you to locate most anything in your world . just get the seed (type /seed) and insert it in these.

posted a message on Nether portal spacing

How close is reasonable for nether portals in the overworld if corresponding portals are placed at the correct converted coordinate in the nether?

It is my understanding that a portal will seek one in the opposite world up to 128 blocks away in all directions BUT (and here seems to be the crux of it) it should select the nearest one. My overworld base is on a group of small islands with main base on one, farming on one, cattle on another, sheep and pigs also on seperate islands. The six Islands are from 300 to 600 blocks apart in a near circle

I have already made a nether rail tunnel system at 120 block elevation connecting all my distant outposts which are 1-3K blocks away in the overworld, so I am thinking of adding portals on each island into this system to travel rapidly at night without fighting off the drowned as I row across. Should it work as the nether ends will be only 40 -70 blocks apart?
