I'm leaning toward waiting until we have a functional 1.7 server, as I'd like to see some of the new materials in our user mall.

Dark Oak Wood looks alright with sandstone, and Acacia wood looks good if there is also some clay mixed in,

Maybe we could make it a 1.7 build competition? :P

Also I have some ideas for a 1.7 spawn as well, but I'll think through the practicality of them before I post :P

I realize that the Server isn't up yet, however when I put in the IP on the list (so I can see when it does come up! :D), it says "Can't resolve hostname" Did I do something wrong or will it say that until the server is officially up?
(Normally when it can't find the server, it says "Can't connect to server", so that is why I was curious.)

Also: Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with this transition other than provide vocal support. Thank you for your hard work Jaz!

Edit: And to everybody else that has helped too :P

Hey everybody: School is starting up soon (Blegh!) I'm sure this will effect a lot of you, so a few friendly reminders/notices to those of you that this applies to:

    1) We understand that you won't be able to get on as much, that is okay and we won't hold it against you. Real life always comes first.
    2) Protect your builds with sponges! It'd really stink to have a long week at school, only to hop on during the weekend to find your builds full of holes and filled up with cobble. So make sure to do that.
    3) If you hop on MineChat, or any other chat: That is awesome because we're always glad to see you. However if your internet connection is not very good for you at your school, please just stay off. We don't want to have the chat fill up with
    "Person has joined."
    "Person is using MineChat!"
    "Person has left."
    "Person has joined."
    "Person is using MineChat!"
And so on. Plus it'd be really hard for you to focus on your schoolwork when you are talking to the people on the server ;)
    4) Re-read 1 through 3
    5) If you actually read it all again, you earn an Awesome Cookie.
    6) Good luck this year!

Hello everybody! If you go to /warp statuecontest you might notice something:
We are having a statue building contest! And if you didn't get that by going there, maybe you should pay a little more attention!

So here is the informational post of information regarding what you need to know for the statue building contest, in organized format!

    A) The winner of the statue building contest will have their statue placed right smack dab in the middle of the /warp market on that nice shiny pedestal. Other builds may be placed around
B ) You can enter by posting here on the forum or by telling one of the staff members, who will then assign you a plot (don't ask for a specific plot, because NO!)
    C) If you are of the Builder rank or above, You can start signing up on Monday, July 22nd, and you can start building July 29th! It well end that following Monday. (August 4th)
    D) Here are the rules:
    1) No player skin statues! At all, ever. Don't do it or you won't get any points in the contest, and people will secretly laugh at you for not reading the rules. NO PLAYER SKINS!
    2) No Offensive statues! This includes but is not limited to: Nudity or Language, material offensive to religious or non-religious belief, and any other thing as determined by the judges, within logical reason.
    3) The plots are 17x17, and you may not build out of them or you will be disqualified. (You can go as tall as you would like though!) No exceptions at all! (This includes both building them off site and going outside the border of the plot itself)
    4) Do not ask the judges for advice! They are only there to judge, not to help. So do not ask them or they won't like you. (Just kidding, we already don't like you!) {And just so nobody takes that seriously, I was joking. We really do like a good portion of you.)
    5) No Team builds, however other people can give advice WHEN THE BUILDER ASKS FOR IT. (Don't be that guy that runs around telling everybody how to build their statue without being asked their opinion first.)

If you have any other questions or complaints, please ask me when you see me! Questions will be answered to the best of my knowledge and I don't like complainers, so I lied just now. Don't tell me your complaints.

And last, and probably least really: Good luck to all contestants! May the odds be forever decent for you!(Remember what I said about complaining, Hunger Game fans!)

I recall somebody asking about the allowed 'height'.

    Quote from imaminecraftguy

    Questions:

What is the allowed height for our statue?

    When does the comp end?

Will there be a cash prize to the winner?

What themes would be good: I know you said no player skins, so are you asking for something like a "Minecraft guy" or a server related thing?
    Or any topic? Please clarify.

    Bach.

Ahh yes, my apologies for not answering those in my original post!

You can build your statue as high as you want.
The contest ends August 4th (One week from the start date)
I can discuss amongst the other staff about a cash prize, it never occurred to me before :P
The statue can be whatever you want it to be as long as it doesn't conflict with the rules. There is no theme we are looking for, nor shape or depiction. Anything that pops into your head! :D
(Some Advice: Keep in mind the statue will be front and center on the pedestal in the /warp market!)

Also, tomorrow (17th May) is the official say that the server has been up 2 months, it has been a brilliant 2 months. It also means that there may be a few [Artisan]'s in the near future.
    Thankyou
    Snail

--A "Build Tutorial" to go along with your example builds (which, as I believe Scip suggested, we should move to a different area)
--Wither/Enderdragon killing competitions (Team-based or single)
--Archery Competitions* (There are several different kinds of competitions we could do involving this)
1 Standard "Shoot the Button to light up the Light"
2 (Team-Based) Put Monsters in Mine-Carts and see which team can kill their monsters first.
3 Slime-Shooting Contest (Slimes are good because they split up into smaller enemies, increasing the difficulty)

    Hey Fluffy/Jaz:
My submission for the build contest has inspired me to build an entire forest area, with larger trees and different sections of forests with different styles of builds. I was even thinking of a spider-infested part with giant webs between the trees! (and I won't have to worry about going over the plot border :P )

I have found an area far away from spawn that is suitable, it is 446x314 blocks, or 140k blocks. It would take 84 sponges to cover the whole thing. So I was wondering: If I pay 840k (The price for 84 sponges) would it be okay for either of you or one of the admins, (when you all have the time, of course) to protect it?
If this is against a rule I apologize, or if it is too big of a bother I understand.
