Nov 21, 2012GeneralPolaris posted a message on Something I was randomly thinking about and couldn't think of anywhere else to post itI am not religious, but if you call prayer and religion a waste of time then you're just a *****. It makes the people that do it happy. I love math and science especially physics. I find doing Physics Problems fun. some of the problems are different but the principles are the same for certain problems. I don't do them once and stop when I know it. I keep on doing it so that I don't forget and anyways its still fun anyways. In listening to religious stories people are there to learn the principles of their religion. I'm not sure if you've ever been to a church but usually they don't just read straight out of the book sometimes they give personal stories. Yes they may be trying to tell the same thing but is this really wasteful? It's just something that you do because you get joy out of it like I do from Science.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
Oct 3, 2012redstone does powering pretty fine in mine craft and there are many mods that do this already. try out thing like the tekkit pack or pick individual mods like industrial craft or build craft. I'm sure many people wouldn't like electricity in the vanilla minecraft but if you want it there are several mods to look up.Posted in: Suggestions

Oct 27, 2013Two things:Posted in: Discussion
One, given that one of the Minecraft splash quotes (those things you see on the main screen) is "Also try Terraria!" I would guess that, in fact, they have. I can't quite see them recommending a game that they haven't played.
Two, let's say they did what you wanted and made Minecraft just like Terraria. So, um, why would there be a reason to play Minecraft? The whole point of playing Game A is that it's not the same as Game B. For people who want to play a game like Terraria there's Terraria. It's already been done. It's there. You can play it any time you want. Minecraft should be like Minecraft. Terraria should be like Terraria.
Also, no, people who want to play Minecraft the way it is should not be required to play on Creative or Peaceful mode. They like the modes they have now; who are you to say those should be taken away from them?

You'd still have the option of playing the way you want; that's why there is Creative Mode and the Peaceful difficulty setting. As it stands now, Minecraft is and always will be a brilliant game, but I'm tired of all of the aesthetic updates that lack substance. They don't have to change the game, but I would expect something substantial and worthy to be added someday. If Minecraft ever gets to a 2.0 release, that would be the perfect time to not necessarily change up the formula, but add a new formula on top of the existing one.
I don't care about new stuff being added (in fact, I support it), however, Minecraft's style of play was never meant to be like Terraria's. And about the updates, not all of them were aesthetical updates, I'd consider 1.5 a great non-aesthetical update. Also, Minecraft will most likely never reach a 2.0, that means it would become a completely different game from the previous one, everything revamped and changed.

I agree completely. We need bosses and other sorta unique things as Terraria has.
Minecraft has its own uniqueness if you couldn't tell. The last thing I want is for Minecraft to start morphing into a Terraria-styled game.
Oct 25, 2013Depends on what you mean by math.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
If you are talking about the methods, theorems, and notation, then certainly invented.
But if you are talking about the underlying concepts and numbers, then definitely discovered. We didn't "invent" that 2+2=4. We invented all the numerals and notations, but the concepts each part represents and the conclusion was not invented. it was discovered. If you put two cookies on a plate then add two more, you get four. No one invented that, yet two year olds probably discover it every day. The same concept can be applied to everything in mathematics - the notation, and how we express it, was invented, but the concepts were discovered.
Dec 1, 2012There are two reasons I am making a suggestion for a new mob here.Posted in: Suggestions
1. Players tend to despise Bane of Arthropods because it can only kill spiders, cave spiders, and silverfish.
2. Deserts, in the day time, are quite barren. No animal spawns bc there is no grass, only the odd squid spawns in the lake.
My suggestion is that a new mob, a desert beetle, scorpion, centipede, or some sort of Arthropod be added, to balance out both reasons I have listed. This mob will spawn in the desert regardless of light levels, and will be either agressive or neutral-not peaceful. For neutral, it could either attack when provoked, or gang up and attack when provoked, but generally arthropods stick to themselves. They likely wouldn't gang up. I'm more in favour of it being like the spider-neutral in the day and agressive at night.
If it were a beetle, the beetle could drop it's chitinous wings that could (perhaps) be used to allow players to glide from high places. This is quite game changing, and it's not absolutely necessary. Wings could also be used to brew some kind of potion.
As a scorpion, it could perhaps drop it's venemous stinger, which could be used as a splash potion of poison. I know there already is a potion like that, but this would at least allow players to have one before they reach the nether.
However, this mob would need to be tough. As the only mob to spawn in the desert in the daytime, chances are it would end up spawning in high quantity, like endermen do in the end. They would need to be tough else players would just hunt them down to gather cheap and quick resources.
It would also be preferable if the mob was quick-moving, thus a player who provokes it is basically forced to fight.
EDIT: a few posters here have asked for more details. I will display them here, based on what i think the beetle should be like.
Looks (without texture):
Health: about 28-32 hp
Drops: Possibly it's chitinous wings, to be used in potions perhaps for potion of leaping.
Xp: similar to a spider's, maybe a little bit more.
Damage: Easy 2 hearts, Normal 3 hearts, Hard, 4 hearts
Speed: A bit faster than a spider
*No FOV, same as spiders, can "see" players thru walls
*Spawns in light level 10 or lower (it will spawn in dawn and dusk but not in a house), neutral in daytime and aggressive at night
*Can climb walls like spiders
*Does get stuck in webs
For more details see my post on this page: http://www.minecraft...od/page__st__60
That post isnt as current as this edit, however, and if there are any discrepencies, this post overrules that one.
