I'm also experiencing this. I use to be able to run MC on max, but after 1.5.1 I get huge lag spikes. Even on superflat mode. I restarted everything. I backed up my world, tried to start over. But that doesn't seem to work. I reverted back to 1.5 just to check if it was me. But it runs fine in 1.5 idk what notch did, but I hope it gets fixed. Optifine does help, but very little.
Notch didn't do anything and I won't explain why...
And for me 1.5.1 is better than 1.5
Well, being horses or not, I think they first should fix the problem that after a while you play at the same place of your world, all the passive mobs die at ravines/mountains/caves
After about 1 day playing at the same world, about 80% of the animals are gone
There's more bugs related with the new dispenser. They said that now you should remove the signal from the dispenser to be able to fire it again, but they have created more bugs:
Pushing or not the lever makes impossible to fire the dispenser with the button....
Well, there's something wrong. It happens in one world but don't happens in another...
Even though I'd expected it to come in 1.5 I am now very relived
Thank you, Dinnerbone!
Well, he said they are trying without success
"Thought we had a speed improvement of 95% for the lighting engine. Tried it out, turns out to slow it down by 95%. Oops."
But I believe that Dinnerbone will find out how to fix it ^^
Basically everything that don't match with minecraft. Everything Mojang make you fell that it's the same theme of the game. But some people want big changes that doesn't fit with the minecraft style
I really don't know how to explain my thought haha
But the Suggestions forum have really good ideas too ^^
My pc can max pretty much any game, yet Minecraft now loads ridiculously slowly chunk by chunk. Mining gravel / sand is now a pain in the **** as it lags when falling. Often missing chunks entirely as transparent holes until I walk over them. This was a stupid update.
If it happens too often, it's a problem with your computer, not the game. As said, the merge was necessary and now it's almost the same of the old SSP (speaking about processing). There's no ' process things twice'...
For 1.5 (according to wiki):
Rewriting Rendering engine
-Requires a higher OpenGL feature-set
--Includes some sort of fallback for older hardware
Rewriting Lighting engine
-Lighting fixes and improvements similar to the ones first introduced in snapshots 12w39a/b
Meaning that pcs that don't run minecraft 'ok' now, won't run it better. The rendering engine will be good for computer with good hardware, not computers that barely can run the game
sad to see the heavy bugfix snapshots start because it means this update is winding down. Still hopeful dispensers will plant crops though. Either way its been the best update I've been around for so far.
I was just thinking that, like they do now, snow wouldn't gather on other snow. That way snow wouldn't get any deeper than one block. The melting idea is good, though; when it isn't snowing, maybe it goes back down to the standard height?

You can't name your wolves because you need to name a spawn egg first. As spawn eggs aren't an obtainable item in survival, you can't do it (yet)

Yeah. I thought it would be cool if the snow stack automatically, but then i realized that would be annoying to take out all the snow of my world
