As a matter of fact, you can get the old versions (even the pre-release versions) from here, though I doubt a pre-Anvil server will run properly with the modern incarnation of MCEdit (since it won't read unconverted saves) so, you may wish to try the Minecraft Land Generator instead.

That land generator was just what I needed, thanks a billion!

Perhaps you should completely uninstall then download and install the newest Java. The installer itself will take care of any modifications to your environment variables to ensure Java will work as intended, meaning you don't have to tweak anything yourself.

Then go into MCEdit, load up the chunk generator, and tell it to check for updates (it should download the newest server version by default).

Assuming you have a folder called %APPDATA%\pymclevel\ (open "My Computer" and type %APPDATA%\pymclevel\ in the address bar) you should see at the very least one, maybe even several, folders (I'm on Linux so mine look a bit different, but you get the idea). If you updated in MCEdit, you WILL see the Release 1.7.2 folder, like so:

If you have the 1.6.4 server, it will be in the 1.6.4 folder, like so:

That's what MCEdit calls to make the chunks. If you don't have it, you can get it by clicking here. If you don't have a folder named Release 1.6.4, you need to make it. Then use the link I provided to save the 1.6.4 server .JAR to that folder, and it MUST be named minecraft_server.jar or else it WILL NOT WORK in MCEdit.

If you've done ALL THAT, and it still won't work, I would suggest putting in a ticket on Github, as has been previously suggested. You should note that the paths I've named for you don't change with each version of Windows, so they will be the same on XP, Vista, 7, and 8.

Any Idea how to generate Minecraft 1.0 chunks? I'm trying to fix up a long running map on my server, but I can't really do it without filling some missng chunks.

It should, it only loads one region at a time. Each region is 512x512. An extra 32 blocks into the surrounding regions is displayed read-only around that to help line up changes that straddle region borders.

Oh cool, I was reading that in the comments, but I didn't really get what the read only stuff was about. Sounds like an efficient system. I can't wait to try it.

If you want to change the vegetation you have to use the regular merge process and actually add trees using the tree layers, or the populate layer. I recommend creating a small world to experiment on and try out various techniques on it. There are many ways to do it.

Good idea, I see many hours of playing around with World Painter in the near future.

    And Thank You :)

By WorldPainter you mean? No, WorldPainter will leave existing structures alone, especially if you're only changing the biomes (and you select that option when merging the world).

*spark of hope with a smile*

Sounds like I need to find a friend with a good computer with enough RAM. :)

What if I edit something in a remote area that nobody has built in? I'd like to add a jungle somewhere and make an epic snowcap mountain range if possible. All this... would complete me. lol

Assuming you mean Minecraft 1.0 then no, you can't edit the biomes, since Minecraft 1.0 is pre-Anvil and doesn't support custom biomes. You could convert it to Minecraft 1.2 of course, and then you can edit the biomes, provided you have enough memory.

yeah sorry, that is what I meant. And I have converted it to 1.2's Anvil. It was originally made in 1.0 which is why the biomes are crazy and I need to fix them. But it seems like existing structures won't remain anyways and that will make things tough. But, even still, I will find a way to implement this awesome program.

WHY MUST I BE STUCK AT SCHOOL?!?! I want to go home right now and paint my world.... This will handle a 4400 x 4400 block world right?

I can't import my world (which is big at over 4200 x 4200 blocks, not enough memory it says, but I have 3 gigs on windows XP pro. I tried giving it 2.5 gigs, same thing.

Further more, all I really want to do is fix the biomes on my 1.0 map. But I don't think I can do that. Which sucks because the biome painting system is perfect and it doesn't exist in any editors that I know of.

Epic Epic Epic Epic!!! If this does what I see in that epic movie as well as it looks, I may just melt into a pool of joy. This is everything and more that I have needed and wanted in an Epic map tool!

It would be amazing if there was a biome editor where you have a 2d view of your map, with pixel representation of the land surface (like one of the pixel map programs) with overlaying transparent colors that represent the different biomes. Then you select and change existing biome areas, or draw them in by hand.... The creator of something like this would be a god.

there is a bukkit plugin to edit biomes in game, but it would be extremely time consuming to make all the selections accurately with world edit.

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert to the new map format from a map from 1.0. I'm guessing it will, but will it save the biome layout?
My biomes got all screwed up when 1.1 came out, and I'm hoping to restore my 1.0 map.

    Thanks

Hey, I want a server mod that will allow me to create my own system of ranks each with their own allowed server commands and item spawning capability, but I don't really want all the other junk that usually comes with server mods.
I don't need any new server commands either, I basically just want custom ranks, which could be color coded in the chat (would be nice).... And maybe a message of the day when you log in lol... Anyone know of something that will do this?

THough it would be better to have an eats road since it is easier faster and more awesome

Yeah, the track at the platform should remain flat, and also be able to handle empty carts that arrive.
I'd like a double cart waiting for inbound, but I already have that mostly figured out.

My current station floorplan consists on a longish rectangular platform with track on either side (outgoing and incoming) and a pressure plat on the far end to call a cart. The platform (usually) is 5 blocks wide plus the half block step to the tracks. so 7 blocks between tracks. some are 5 blocks total and one reallly compact design is only 3. That station may be upgraded though since it's such a pain to work on.

I actually have most of it sort of planned in my head, but if you make a design too, the collaboration would be usefull to me and others.
