posted a message on PvP Tips
In case you didn't read the title, these are a few tips for PvP battles.

    1. Jump

Jumping and attacking gives you a critical, dealing more damage. The only downfall is you take increased knockback.

    2. Potions

In PvP, potions can be pretty helpful. I personally recommend a few strength II potions, as they allow you to rack up some damage, or some healing potions, as you want to stay alive. Speed potions are also fairly good, especially if you just need to get away from your enemy for a second, whether you just don't want to battle or need to get away to drink some other potions.

    3. Enchant

Now, this one may be a bit obvious, but its still necessary. For swords, you don't really need looting, bane of arthropods, or smite. Knockback is good if you want to 'toy' with your opponents, but if you just want to kill, or they are running away, its just counter-productive. Sharpness and fire aspect are the ones you really need. For armor, it depends on what you are doing. If you are on a server that has generic kits to choose, you will probably just need protection, feather falling, and projectile protection. If you are playing on a normal survival server, though, you MIGHT need blast protection. Fire protection COULD be useful, too.

    4. Enderpearls

Enderpearls are fairly hard to come by, but they can also be pretty useful for PvP. They make a good but expensive alternative for speed potions. If you are worried about death by the damage it gives you, enchant your armor with feather falling. Enderpearl damage is fall damage, and feather falling will block most of it.

    5. Bows

Bows are another obvious choice. There isn't really a bad enchantment for these, unless you don't want foes to be knocked around. In that case, you might want to ignore punch.

    6. Crouching

This one is good if YOU are getting knocked around. Crouching on a block reduces the amount of knockback you take. The only downfall is you can't get the crits by jumping.

    7. Keep Moving

You obviously don't want to just stand in place, just getting wailed on. Two useful moves are rushing and strafing. Rushing is something you should do when you are low on health, maybe around 3-4 hearts. Its a bold move, and a highly dangerous one, but in 1v1 battles, if it works, the opponent may run away, giving you a moment to drink a few potions. Strafing is also good to do in battles, as you 'dodge' the attacks. This is a very good tactic when someone is using a bow at close range, as you can dodge the high-knockback arrows.

For a bit of a starter, this is a little melee guide, but not by me:

I'm afraid this topic doesn't really go too much in depth with pvp at all, IMO. As an expert with melee I shall elaborate a little more, maybe? :P

If you really want to be a top of the line pvper, you have to start basic. Like really basic. First of all, make sure you're landing the hits in the first place. I see so many people trying to strafe and do that stuff that they end up dying because they're not landing the hits, and not having correct mouse accuracy. Start by going on random pvp servers can practicing landing the hits. As simple and obvious as it sounds, you gotta trust me, people make the mistake of doing the strafing and block hitting before they can do essentially the most important thing in pvp- hitting. Trust me, it will help. Also maybe play osu! or something like that to increase your mouse accuracy.

Second thing, be aggressive. I've seen tons of people trying to hit while backing away from their opponent. That's not going to work. Even if you're on low health, surprise them by charging at them or strafing them out, again focusing on landing the hits too, as technically, you have a more chance of hitting your opponent moving forward than backward, and you would rather put up a fight than just die running away?

I could go way more in depth, I know some people are laughing at how I'm explaining the simplest thing in the world, but I'm just patching up the misconception that you gain the upper hand by strafing, which is true in many cases, but not all the time.

P.S. Landing critical hits are not absolutely necessary either in most cases, except if you're about to die, as it messes up your mouse accuracy.

Well, those are all the tips I have. I will add any more I can think of later, but farewell for now.

It means you can't get items like portal blocks, active redstone, and the like.

No, not really. I'm pretty sure most depictions of Hell usually contains tortured souls, demons, unholy monstrosities, etc. Simply containing fire, lava, and a dangerous landscape in no way makes it Hell-like or inappropriate for children.

Soul sand = Trapped souls. Netherrack = solidified guts.
