An Aliant tech came to our house and rectified the Internet issues one way or another, so the server can be relied upon once again. Thank you for your patience.

The FastQuake Minecraft Server is an enhanced-vanilla survival server with the goal of providing a fun and legitimate Minecraft SMP experience. We run Minecraft 1.6.2 and Spigot. This server has no constant whitelist and is online 24/7. The server uses a login system, please see the "Joining FastQuake" section below.

    Server details:
    IP: fastquake.com
    Version: 1.6.2

    Dynamic map: http://www.fastquake.com:8123/
    Mumble server: fastquake.com
Server stats: http://www.fastquake.com/mcstats/ (Currently not updating due to plugin bugs)

Don't be scared off by the apparent lack of activity. A lot of players are and that's why we have a lack of activity. It's a vicious cycle, but I think it can be broken if people help grow the server by being active :)

    Joining FastQuake

From Minecraft, go to Multiplayer and connect to fastquake.com

Our server is an offline-mode server, which means that anyone can join even if they are using a cracked client. However we do encourage users to buy the game to support Mojang, because they're awesome. The server uses AuthMe, and in order to play you will need to register with a simple command.

When you join for the first time, you must type this:
    /register [password] [confirmpassword]

[password] is a password of your choice, you will need to use it to log in every time you join the server. For [confirmpassword], simply enter the same password again (this is to prevent typos). Omit the square brackets.

On subsequent joins you will need to type:
    /login [password]

Where [password] is the same password that you registered with. Once again, omit the brackets

    Server Rules

    1. NO GRIEFING - This means destroying others' creations or breaking into houses. If the door to a building is locked, then don't make a new one.
    2. NO CHEATING - This means using other programs or client mods to give you an unfair advantage. This includes texture packs or x-ray mods that allow you to see through walls
    3. BE RESPECTFUL - Be nice to people, because it's awesome. Treat people as you expect to be treated.

The operators know everything as the server tracks all actions; lying will get you nowhere. If you are found to be a griefer, you will be banned and your griefing rolled back.

You got lucky. I never seem to find endless cave systems, so I always have to dig a tunnel and fill it with TNT, then blow it up to find caves.

I think it may just be your seed, or something.

What minecraft version was your world created on?

If you're bored of the new terrain, download the "Better world generation" mod. I use it, and it's amazing :D

But mods aren't a good solution to this problem. This is the kind of problem that needs to be fixed in the base game, mods are just a temporary band-aid solution that doesn't get to the root of the problem, which is that the terrain generation is fundamentally flawed.

That could be a good comeback, but you need to remember that when you actually do find a cave, it's always going to be ****ing endless.

Almost always, to be fair. There is still a very tiny amount of caves that are smaller, "dud" caves. But they're too few.

Isn't exploring cave systems a part of the fun in Minecraft? Why would you want less?

Exploring cave systems is fun. But only to a certain point. It starts getting boring when the cave goes on for many kilometers with no end in sight. Then you finally finish it and go back to the surface. Then you find another cave when digging your way up.

There's a lot more excitement in finding a cave if the caves were more rare.

The number of caves are the same. The difference is that you now have ravines and mine shafts linking them together. I also believe most of us probably have larger mines or do more exploring.

Did you ever test out the original 404 challenge? It was a massive cave system that it could take many hours to explore. The truth is that there was nothing really special about it. All worlds had features like that. The cool thing about 404 was how you sort of opened up a gate to the cave system by removing some gravel.

It's true that parts of a 1.7.3 world had fewer resources than we can find now. There was a bug in 1.7.3 that made resources more scarce in the areas with negative coordinates. Unless you knew about the bug, you would often mine in the wrong areas.

I don't know about that... check out the second image in the OP. Mostly caves, not ravines.

posted a message on Why do you think iron has been made so easy to get?
    Quote from RSwordsman

It's one of the most abundant minerals in the earth, and though irl it's at a very low concentration over massive areas, that is fixed in MC by having good-sized chunks distributed through the stone.

Not to mention, as a non-renewable resource, it was still being consumed by being made into tools and armor. Eventually, anyone playing in a limited area would run out of iron for good. No bueno. I prefer it as semi-renewable. :)

It is renewable actually, Iron golems drop lots of ingots (So iron farms are possible). Zombies also occasionally drop iron ingots. So unfortunately, it is renewable.

Just installed 1.7.3 and decided to play some survival. Snapped these screenshots.

I can't remember seeing anything like this after 1.8. And I agree with 1.8 not sucking extremely, but it has some bad changes.

That's the kind of awesome stuff I want to see in 1.8; Really really cool, awesome and impossible terrain like that. With those enormous cliffs and all, that just looks amazing.

I took this pic while exploring, when I heard lots of noises around me and thought they were coming from underground. I didn't go looking for places with lots of caves, but just looking under me with noclip revealed this:

    http://imgur.com/2MZjm

Swiss cheese to the max. Anyone who says they can't find any caves is either lying, using mods that change terrain generation, or is in a very unique seed/area. Just LOOK at all those caves. I can say with confidence that it was not like this in 1.7 or before that.

This is why I gave up on multi.

Why do you give in to pressure? man up dude, it's your server, you are the boss period.

Edit: No flaming you with that comment, just giving advice.

Yeah, I should probably have mentioned that my second admin is actually an IRL friend of mine who goes to the same school. The pressure from players I could probably ignore, but the pressure from him would be more difficult...

posted a message on Need help with a server dilemma
WARNING: Long post. There's no TL;DR because this is a complex issue and I want you to understand the big picture before answering.

Okay, so here's some my issue:

My server has been around for almost a year. But it's been dying since 1.8, mainly because 1.8 changed everything and we had to create a new map and stuff, and it was just too much for me. So I haven't been active on my server so much. My community kind of died. Now all I have left are a big group (10 or so) of players from Croatia.

After 1.8, we removed some things (such as economy). The people who were here before 1.8 are demanding that I make it the way it was before, but I don't want to do that. So basically, the community is poisoned because they expect things from the server that I can't provide anymore. (I can't add an economy, because I can't figure out prices now that so much stuff like iron is renewable or easy to get).

I also haven't been dedicating much time to the server recently, I've been busy with other stuff. So I've unfortunately been neglecting the server a bit because I hven't had the time

So the server has been dying, my community is shrinking but there are some people who are sticking around. I just want a fresh start, with a new community, a new hostname, a new website, a new server, a new world, a new everything. I made a lot of mistakes running my old server that caused problems with the community and from a technical POV, the server isn't running well (I wasn't one of those abusive dickish admins, it's just that I was too lenient, I didn't discipline griefers consistently, I made mistakes).

I want a fresh start. I'll be changing things. I won't have a multiple warp/home system anymore, I won't have an economy, I'll be making a different kind of server. But they won't like the changes, they'll want me to change it back. And they'll pressure me. So, I don't want the old group of players to come to the new server because they will want the old server back, and when they ask why I changed it, I won't be able to give them a reason they'll accept.

My second admin (Who is also an IRL friend) wants me to tell them about the new server, but also tell them not to demand it to be changed back to the way it was. This is a fine idea, but it will just create pressure. But I know they won't accept it. I know what the server needs. It needs a totally fresh start.

Then there's this one specific player who is a bit more of a problem. He is very good at manipulating me. He convinced me to let him build the server city, which turned out fine but he wants to add a whole bunch of unnecessary things that will make it difficult to manage and not worldedit-friendly (in case I have to move it or copy it to a new map). I want him to just leave it alone, but it's so hard to tell him that. He'll just get pissed at me.

He's formed a friendship with my second admin, and when I was talking to that admin about this issue, saying that I don't want the player to be notified about the new server because the player will just be angry at me and pressure me into letting him do this and do that, and letting him use creative for his projects, among other things (My server is/was a legit-oriented survival server. Nobody was allowed to cheat for their own purposes or anyone else's, not even me). The second admin says "I won't do that to him" (Referring to not telling him about the new server).

Is it a **** move to just "disappear" and start off fresh somewhere else? There are only 10 people or so left, probably even less. And they're almost all just one big group of friends. And there are many other servers for them to go to, which will be more to their liking. What should I do?

(Please go easy on me, I don't want to and never wanted to be a **** to anybody. I never abused my players and treated everyone fairly. I just think it's best that I start afresh and do it all over again, without making the mistakes I made the first time).
