I strongly dislike what the history channel has become. I have great hatred for "Ancient Aliens", and shows like "Ice Road Truckers". The only time you can find good programming is on the anniversary of a WWII event, or the 4th of July. Sometimes they show something you are actually interested in, but only when you are about to walk out the door because you have to go somewhere.
Then again, not all of their "new" shows are terrible. Pawn Stars is a nice mixture of comedy and history. "Chasing Mummies" with Zahi Hawass was also highly entertaining (like anything with Zahi), but I think that show was a victim of the revolution.
There used to be a way around the terrible programming. They used to have "History International", which is where most of the history shows went once the actual channel went south. Unfortunately, it is now "H2" and has resumed with bad television.
