IGN: FoxtrotZero *Age: 16 Do you agree with the rules?: I do. What is your favorite rule?: I do not like this question. Rules are something to be equally abided and respected. How long have you played Minecraft?: When I joined minecraft, Survival Test wasn't even announced. *Country: United States, West Which buildings of yours are you most proud of?: Probably my technological endeavours using redstone. Things like complicated doors, locks, and traps. *Pictures of any of your creations?: Alas, no. How long can you spend on the server?: Currently, weekends only, but I spend alot of time on minecraft; when I'm on, I'm generally on for serveral hours at a time.
Absolutely anything. I figure the most obvious idea is for operating machinery remotely. Any signal you would normally carry with a long stretch of redstone can be made wireless with a radio.
Well, the concept of a radio is simple. Take a redstone current (on/off) and trasmit that state to another radio some distance away. This is extremely useful - when I'm dealing with very complex wiring, I often have to bury wires at one, three, five, and sometimes seven or nine meters underground to get them from place to place, or sometimes I have to construct complicated overhead gantries. Then I have to make sure the signal is being carried through by a sufficient number of signal repeaters.
With a Radio, this wouldn't be necessary. I'd set up a radio at the source of the signal and a radio at the recieving end and put them on the same channel. I could send signals one way or both ways. This not only makes complicated or large wiring systems easier, it also makes long distance communication or operation much simpler, particularly with games involving combat between factions - compare a series of hidden radio repeater stations to digging out a long underground tunnel and getting the redstone to go all the way.
How do we Build one?
Well, as a friend of mine made clear, a radio is a relatively advanced piece of technology in the minecraft world. It's components are not cheap, but are well worth while. I propose the following schmatic for the construction of a radio:
Where:
= Lever
= Redstone
The result is a radio block.
How does it work?
The operation of a radio is relatively simple. First, you would right click the block to open a simple dialouge, and you set the frequency. I figure there should be a generous number of frequencies, to make sure you don't run out and to make sure it's not easy to eavesdrop on signals. I figure something like 00-99. Theoretically, one could also tune into a range of or all signals, which would be useful for sending or recieving messages from across an entire system or jamming enemy communications, but that depends on how complex one wants to make it.
Now, radios have a set range they can broadcast to (I figure 128 meters is good, but some people might think the range ought to be smaller). Any radio in this range thats operating the same (or one of the same) frequencies will pick up on the signal; if one of this group of radios are on, all of them are on, and if none of them are on, they're all off.
You can hook up a radio to several devices or parts of a device, of course, and can control whether it only recieves or only puts out signals with diodes.
I was going to put this in the suggestions section, but I figured it would be better left to a mod than Mojang.
I know you might not get to this right away and it might take some time, but i'm going to try to make one myself, and likely fail pretty horribly, so I think it would be nice if there was a real professional ODST skin out there for people to use.
Its alright. I mean, i'm a little biased because I think traditional 'business suits' look pretty bad and I loathe the colour red for things like ties, but the biggest problem I have is that your fabrics look like they're plastic. So does your skin, but thats a little less odd.
I don't know how this "skincraft" compares to an actual graphics editing program (I use Paint.Net, for example), but if you want to open the skin up in something like that, you should add a little bit of noise. The result is the pixels will be slightly different from eachother, not all the same, and that gives it a much more realistic (or, more accurately, much less unbelievable) feel to it. If I had any decent screenshots of mine, i'd show it to you, but I don't...
Hopefully the title hasn't misled you. It seems like there are alot of good texture packs out there, but alot of creators seem to forget a part that is, in fact, rather important - the art file, the one that defines the pictures that appear on paintings in-game. Personally I feel that the default art is absolutely horrible.
I once put together a custom art file from bits of several texture packs, but I lost all that work (long story). So if you know of any texture packs with good art, go ahead and mention them here so we know which ones have custom art and which don't. Personally nothing over 32x is very useful, but people use texture packs up to 256x, so anything is worth mentioning.
He said that would be at 9:00 PST. Its only 7:40. I think this is a server outage, not intentionally being brought offline. I'd imagine if he were taking it down, he'd have mentioned something before hand.
Anyway, I had iron in a furnace. I certainly hope thats not affected.
Right, so... Is the server down? I just tried to connect a few times and it gave me a server timeout, which typically means the server is down.
I'd expect a profesional server host to have a good uptime, so this might be a temporary outage in a lagstorm and as such i'll try to connect again. If it works, you can just disregard this.
I just managed to die twice in less than twenty minutes, the first time losing me absolutely everything I own, and its actually the fault of a lag storm. I had a vertical quarry that was roughly 5x5x50, and because I had no ladders, the way I got out was via large dirt column. I was digging down, but due to lag I glitched a couple of times and lost some health. By the time I was at the bottom, I was half dead, and it wouldn't let me pick up anything. Then it suddenly glitches me and I drop down, dying, defeated.
I'm beyond angry, i'm just kinda defeated. I might come on later, I might come on tomorrow. Its a hard thing to be right back to punching trees, after I lost some hard earned iron and coal.
I'm sorry but there's two things wrong with this application, firstly "Application Questions: None" that wasn't a question it was a title, everyone else figured that out... Secondly "IGN: None" if you have no in game name how are you going to be whitelisted and play on the server?
Well, first of all, "Application Questions" was in the same format as the questions, right above the questions, not bolded or anything. I realise most people got this, but to assume it wonders if you have questions about the application means the applicant is, indeed, astute.
Also, they probably made the same mistake I made. I have never before seen the abbreviation "IGN" for "In Game Name". I sat there for about two minutes trying to figure out what relevance an account with IGN (the game reviewing website) had anything to do with anything.

If so, FoxtrotZero, in game and out, at your service and requesting permission to board.
