Do I need to download it again to get the official release edition or the update system will take care of it ???
And will we see a right click menu and a import from FTB/ATLauncher and TechnicLauncher or this feature wouldn't make it to MMC5...
If you switch the updater to the "stable" channel in settings, it should update you to the latest stable build. You may have to update, though, since switching build channels wasn't implemented until very recently.
As for FTB importing, you might have a look at the "Track FTB Instances" option. I wasn't the one who added it, though, so I'm not exactly sure how it works.

What is the point of this? I can use ANY MC (even alpha and beta) in the regular launcher from minecraft.net. Mods even work like a charm!!!!
MultiMC's original intent was to make it easier to have multiple installations of Minecraft at once. This is something the new official launcher kinda does now.
Currently, MultiMC's goal is simply to provide a better, easier to use launcher with a better UI than the vanilla launcher.

I would just ignore that as multiMC4 is not getting updated ever again. Basically, it can't find updates because its update server is down. I tried it myself, with the same result. multiMC5 is getting rather frequent updates (like almost every day) and works rather well, and you should be able to translate everything from multiMC4 to mutiMC5 by dragging/dropping the files to the other folder.
I actually didn't mean to shut the update server down just yet. Seems like Jenkins crashed or something...

As of build 220.127.116.11, the offline feature still doesn't work. I don't want to report it as a bug because I already have.
I'm currently reworking authentication in MultiMC 5 anyways, so there is no point in fixing this since it's a part of the old system. Offline mode will be added to the new system eventually.
Sep 19, 2013Hello again! It's been a while. Here's our current situation:Posted in: Minecraft Tools
I am currently working on an update system and setting up build environments. Peterix is ironing out bugs and things and just being awesome as usual. With any luck, we might have some stuff out some time this month or next month. No promises, though!

I'm always here to help with anyone who needs it.
Thanks for that. I'm seriously really thankful for those of you here who are so willing to spend your own time to help people out with their problems without any payment or anything for doing so. It's nice to see people helping out.

Oh no! The developer of a FREE program that you use for FREE decided not to work on it anymore because he's tired of working on Minecraft stuff and wants to take on other projects! How dare he! That's just horrible.
Seriously. This is not my job. I make some money from ads and that's it. Nobody pays me to work on MultiMC. The only incentive I ever really had to work on it was that it was fun. I enjoyed working on MultiMC. Recently, I've simply gotten tired of it. It's no longer fun. That doesn't mean I no longer care about it. If I didn't care, then why would I even be responding to you right now. If I didn't care, I could just disappear from this community and leave everyone wondering what happened to me. To be honest, I do care less than I did before, but I certainly do still care.
Furthermore, you're not entitled to anything, so don't think you are. As I said before, you don't pay me, so why would I spend time on something I don't enjoy just for you when I have no incentive to do so. I'm really tired of this, a lot of people seem to have this same attitude, as if the fact that I made a free and open source tool and gave it to them for free means I'm obligated to help them with any and every problem that ever arises. I've said this time and time again: I do not work for you. You are not "customers". You did not purchase anything from me. Maybe if MultiMC were paid software, it might probably be different, but it's not, so it isn't.
Anyways, that's enough ranting for now. Have a nice day.

MagicLauncher seems to have updated to v1.6.2 without problems. If Forkk13 is tired of working on it, he should release the source so someone else can pick up where he left it. At the very least, update the OP to let people know if it's even being worked on at all.
I'm switching to MagicLauncher since the author still seems interested in Minecraft, and cares enough to update it.
I hope you enjoy MagicLauncher. That's one less annoying person using MultiMC.Quote from joshnoodle
Since we are getting ever more closer to a stable v5 build, I'm wondering how we will be notified. Will it self-update the v4.3 launcher, or will we have to redownload it? Or maybe that little news thing at the bottom, because I use it everyday anyways.
I'll post something on forkk.net that will show at the bottom of MultiMC when we start putting out test builds for MultiMC 5.

Thanks for confirming some people are working on this project at least, lets just hope Mojang won't screw it up again when they release the 1.7 edition with a new launcher that will erase all the progress on the MultiMC 5 edition... Its not intentional from their part, but they've screwed up big already, lets just hope they won't do it again in future MC releases.
Actually, the new Mojang launcher is a good thing in my opinion. They had to fix all their horrible crap at some point. The problem is that they're doing it now, instead of back in BETA when they should have. In fact, things should have been this way in the first place.
