posted a message on Worlds using Experimental Settings are not supported. (20w21a) Java Edition. Need your help!

Please forgive me if I missed something; this page has a lot to read!

I exported the "worldgen_settings_export.json" file from my world, and not only does it not contain "legacy_biome_init_layer", it is quite large at 14.7 kB, as opposed to what xylonn72 posted. I've been playing on this world for over 5 years, and this isn't the first time something got broken and I had to fix it with NBT's and JSON's, but I'm completely lost as to what needs to be edited! In case it matters, it's a custom map that I play Survival on, and the original can be found here: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/eldaria-island---custom-terrain-mc-10---end-portal/ (last updated for MC 1.6)

Ok, for the sake of anyone else having this problem and finding this page, you have to set your Launcher Profile to use Java 8. Mine was using 11 before.

Well I don't have a log file to show. I was basically hoping on the off-chance that someone would see this and go, "Oh I've seen that problem before, here's what to do." But I guess I'm on my own then.

*sigh* I hoped putting the words, "crashes so quickly it doesn't even generate a log file" in bold would make it stand out.

posted a message on [Linux Mint, Java] Game crashes immediately after startup

I just got Linux Mint 20 all nice and installed on my new laptop, but when I try to play Minecraft, I click the "Play" button and the launcher window closes for a second, then immediately opens back up with the "Encountered an unexpected error, sorry for the inconvenience" message, with no other info. I've tried it with plain vanilla, optifine, and some forge mods but it does exactly the same thing -- crashes so quickly it doesn't even generate a log file. I've tried setting the profiles to a different version of Java, and it made no difference. What's going on?

Are you sure you there hasn't been an update to the syntax?

That's what I assumed had happened, but I couldn't find anything about it in the change logs!

Ok, yes, turns out it was one or more of the other packs I had installed in my old world that were buggering things up! When I loaded ONLY my pack,, everything worked fine! XD Though I'm a bit confused about how you went about the TNT thing. I've tested it in creative mode plenty of times and it works just the same as in survival. How are you setting it off? I use a redstone circuit surrounding an obsidian barrier to light them all at the same time. If the timing is off by even a tick, it's *supposed* to not work.

posted a message on [1.16.1] My Data Pack Stopped Working After Updating

I am not at all a function wizard, but with some help from the community I managed to put a neat data pack together. It does three things: Gives all armor stands arms, Stores Exp in bottles when you throw empty ones on an emerald block, and Compresses a coal block into a diamond when 6 TNT explode around it on the same tick. It worked perfectly in 1.14 and 1.15, but all three features stopped working when I updated to 1.16. I've combed through update lists, but can't find anything that would explain why it doesn't work anymore.

(For some reason MCF decided to compress away all of the whitespace; I don't know how to fix that without just going line by line by hand. I c/p'd the log from Notepad++.)

Since it said the problem was in the character's NBT, I guessed it might be the result of the mod Trinkets, which gives an extra slot for the Elytra. I opened my level.dat file in an NBT editor and looked through it for something related to an Elytra so I could delete it, but didn't see anything.

I'm playing on a copy of my main survival world, so even if it gets corrupted I'm good. But this does not bode well for when I eventually update it to 1.16 proper!

posted a message on How to change the number of items in an item stack entity?

Ok, first of all, thank you for your time. I've never used the scoreboard functionality before.

I'm actually making a data pack, not a command block contraption. I currently have 2 function files, exp_bottle (runs every tick) and drain_exp (called by the first)

execute at @e[type=minecraft:item, nbt={Item:{id:"minecraft:glass_bottle"}}] run execute if block ~ ~-1 ~ minecraft:emerald_block run execute if entity @p[level=1..,distance=..3] run function useful_things:drain_exp

    summon minecraft:item ~ ~ ~ {Item:{id:"minecraft:experience_bottle",Count:1b}}
    xp add @p -7 points[/p]
[p]# I tried adding the following based on your code, but it doesn't work:
    scoreboard objectives add count dummy
scoreboard players set global count 1
execute as @s store result score @s count run data get entity @s Item.Count
scoreboard players operation @s count -= global count
execute as @s store result entity @s Item.Count int 1 run scoreboard players get @s count

It currently works to drain the player's EXP and spawn in the correct number of bottles, but doesn't remove the empty bottles.

Ok, that works for changing it to a specific number, but I need it to decrement one every time the command is run. (I probably should have specified that.)
