    Instead of the keepInventory gamerule deciding whether both items and experience drop on death, there should be a seperate gamerule called keepExperience that controls whether or not experience drops on death, with keepInventory only controlling if items drop on death. This would allow players to have death penalties other than "lose everything" and "lose nothing," since they could instead only lose experience or only lose items, and keep the other.

    If you're willing to cheat a little, you could turn off mob griefing with the /gamerule command to stop them from blowing up blocks.
    Also, this is just my opinion, but I actually do like creepers a lot. Minecraft would be way too easy without them.
