I've noticed that since cows and chickens drop food, pigs are somewhat obsolete. The addition of horses makes this even more true because they are much faster than pigs. It's much easier to start a cow farm and get the same amount of food than to try to find two carrots to breed two pigs together. This is how Mojang can make pigs useful again:
Pigs need to drop another object similar to spider eyes (Like a Pig tail) to be used as a new potion ingredient. With a new ingredient, there are many new possibilities for new potions to be added to the game. I don't have many suggestions for new potions, but you get the idea. Something like this in the game has very much potential.
pig ears or tail as a semi-rare drop (like spider eyes) and used for a potion recipe.
Wow! That's a really good idea! What would a good potion for that be? Would it have positive or negative effects? How about a potion or archery, which would make your bow stronger (As opposed to potion of strength which makes swords stronger) The possibilities for a new potion ingredient are endless!
I agree with a lot of the things you say, pigs are losing their worth in in-game usefulness, their few uses are: a pretty decent source of food, a somewhat clunky transportation, was the only food source in Minecraft for quite some time, Created and so on. But you don't pigs to be...removed.. right?
No. If pigs gets removed, the Minecraft community would freak out about it. I don't want them gone, but they just need to be more useful.
Yeah, pigs are plain boring. My reasons are these:
They drop food which is about the same as food given by chickens, or cows.
Next, you need carrots to breed them, and they can only be found in villages, so if there isn't any near, well, sorry...
And last, they give? Pork. Point. Nothing else. I think FitterSpace is right, bacon would be cool. Maybe Zombie Pigmen should give it too?
Zombies actually drop carrots as a rare drop, but as the name implies, it's pretty rare. Someone earlier also said that once you get a carrot farm, breeding pigs is easy. I disagree because you still have to get the carrots in the first place. By the time i get my first carrot, i already have a full cow and chicken farm.
You can get that from any animal. The point is that the pigs only drop food which again, can come from any animal.
exactly. The pork chops need to be buffed in some way. They could give five hunger points or increase the saturation so you don't need to eat as often.
I agree that pigs are under-powered because the other passive mobs offer something other than food. Also, there are horses for riding now so there no use to ride a pig! Mojang should buff the porkchops like making them refill 5 food pops are something.
I completely agree with you! Pigs were never an ideal method of travel before. You can actually walk faster than riding a pig. Buffing the pork chops would actually make pigs worth farming!
If bacon ever does get added, mojang could decrease the amount your energy goes up after eating a pork chop to 3. Bacon strips should only give about 1 or 2 hunger points.
I think pigs should drop 0-3 bacon strips along with the 0-3 pork chops they already drop. The reason is that Cows and Chickens are a much better source of food because they also drop leather and feathers. Now that books need to be make with leather, it becomes more valuable. Chicken are also good because they are the only way to get feathers. Pigs, however, are useless because they only give you food and carrots are hard to get early in the game.
Bacon strips should not give you a lot of energy because you don't want it to be overpowered. One bacon strip should heal around one or two hunger points. (slightly less than bread) If bacon along with pork chops made the game too easy to get food, you could easily lower the saturation of bacon or decrease the pork chops.
I like spawning in Jungles. In my current world, I spawned in an area with a jungle to my left, Extreme hills to my right, plains to the front, and a forest in the back (i actually spawned right at the edge of said jungle.) My world so far is amazing.
As for deal breakers, I agree with you about snow biomes. I like finding one for the dark wood but it seems like they never end. I'm also not crazy about spawning on an island in the middle of an ocean. It's cool at first, but gets really annoying when I have to travel 4000 blocks to find more land.
At this point in Minecraft, pigs are not a great source of food anymore.
The reason is that cows drop raw beef and leather when they die. Chickens drop raw chicken and feathers when they die. Pigs only drop raw pork chops when they die. There's no reason to farm pigs when cows give the same amount of food that gives the same amount of energy when eaten. Here's an idea that I had that could make pigs more useful:
Pigs need to be able to drop bacon along with pork chops. Killing a pig would give 0-3 pork chops and 0-3 bacon strips. If this happened, you would get more food from pigs than any other animal and it would balance the game out a lot more.
Since you need leather to make books for enchanting, cows became more valuable. Since Chickens are the only things that drop feathers now, chickens are more valuable. Cows and Chickens also drop food, which makes pork chops less valuable. I really would like to see pigs give slightly more food so that they become a very efficient source from now on. Does anybody agree with me?
I don't ever bother with covering my portal up unless i spawn in a wide open area. The first thing I do is try to find a nether fortress. I'm really not into brewing so i don't bother with nether wart. I will get it but i never use it. Quartz has finally given me a really good reason to go to the nether! I hope more ores are added there!
