I dont think that caves are too easy, just boring, there all just grey with annoying water or lava streams and coal/iron veins. It would be good if stone colour varied like dirt grass colour, but not as much. Also the 'dungeons' need to be improved. It would be cool to have those mobs you came up with but without posion. I think there should be underground mobs like trolls and stuff.

Slime chunks are still very rare, are they not? And slimes spawn 1/10 of the time normal mobs spawn.
So I really don't see the problem. It's a completely flat map, no mountains or surrounding terrain to make building in one location better than building in another. Fly away from the chunk with all the slimes and build there. Problem has been solved. And if you want to be even more accurate, get a slime finding tool to check which chunks have slimes and which don't.
Please dont speak if you never put on super-flat or played the game.

Have you ever been playing Minecraft and said to yourself "Man, I wish this could be harder... I haven't died nearly enough today."? In the spirit of I Wanna Be the Guy and Kaizo Mario World, these game maps will be very difficult. It could be low amounts of a critical resource, or deviously placed monster spawners, traps, or just general meanness on my part, I want to take the normal Minecraft experience and really put pressure on the player.
The main objective of my maps is to find and complete the Victory Monument. This is a structure with slots on it for blocks. To win a Super Hostile map, you must place each of the requested blocks in the appropriate slot on the Victory Monument. There are 16 colors of wool blocks to find, and also in older maps, the 3 material blocks, of iron, gold, and diamond.
CTM stands for Complete the Monument, which is the genre my Super Hostile series created. Unlike Adventure maps, which typically have very rigid rules and restrictions, CTM maps are about playing Minecraft in a mostly normal fashion, but with a goal to work towards.
Super Hostile Standard Rules:
1) Find and complete the Victory Monument.
2) Find wool in chests (Fleecy Boxes) or on special boss enemies (Fleecy Mobs) scattered around the map, do NOT use dyes or spider string for wools!
3) You may craft the Iron, Gold, and Diamond blocks.
4) Use at least Easy difficulty, and never Peaceful. (I balance around Normal.)
5) Do not leave the boundaries of the map and go into normally generated Minecraft terrain.
6) Survive in any way you can think of. (Yes, you can mine, craft, and place blocks.)
7) You may use spider string wool and sheep wool to craft beds and other items, but not for the Victory Monument.
8) You may not pick up, craft, or move Ender Chests.
For the most part, Super Hostile is like playing Minecraft normally, but it's more difficult and you have a long-term goal to work towards. Also you may find yourself in some unusual terrain. Oh, and the map is designed to kill you, so keep that in mind.

My main goal with this post was to make the community interested in more biomes so that Mojang would prioritise that aspect in their busy schedules. And it seems we have finally made it happen! Additionally we also got 2 of my suggestions into the game, which of course is fantastic.
Now put down your guard and enjoy the moonlight in this mob free but oh so rare environment. Unfortunately, the underground isn't as peaceful. If you are lucky you will also encounter a deserted old vineyard for some delicious grapes. This rare fruit replenish only 0,5 hunger each, but they are all eaten at the same time, making it the quickest but most expensive food source.
Rumours say the farmers have noticed crops grow faster.
Take your horse and embark on a journey to discover the Orient. These warm and barren deserts might contain a scarce amount of watering wholes, a common place to find various merchants with donkeys full of goods to trade. Make sure to have your wallet full, for these rare goods cannot be acquired elsewhere.
The luminescent mushrooms proves to be a perfect, yet mystique light source in the deep caves of the underworld. Rumours speak about small glowing angler-fishes that thrive in nearby underground lakes.

[NOTE]Colored light and glass is something I believe all minecrafters should be able to enjoy with each other without the midleman or knowledge of mod installing. So for that reason, this suggestion is directed towards vanilla. We do however welcome mods here since it's said that "Colored light isn't possible." -_^

Color Glass Blocks & Changing The Color of Light
Colored Glass and Colored Light are features I have wanted to see in Minecraft for some time. I wanted to see these features implemented so bad that I have come up with some ways it could be used in the game; it would greatly increase building potential and the ability for a player to customize an atmosphere by modifying the color of light. Based on my knowledge working in the game industry as an indiegame digital artist, I know that the impact something like colored glass and light would have on minecraft would be more important than most people know. In fact, it may even be safe to say that even Mojang underestimates the aesthetic importance of colored light and being able to manipulate it.

You are correct, this is not the first topic on colored glass, nor am I saying it is. The 'Original' tag in the title is referring to this topic and it's contents specifically. On several occasions, I came across my topic copied directly into Redit and other online blogs; without any sort of credit to the images and content. As the images in this topic were created from scratch by me, copying this topic would be considered art theft.
So to answer your question, the Colored Glass! topic is labeled as original because it is, the original.
Is it possible to change the color of the light?
Yes. Difficult, but possible. It used to be quite easy to light blocks with individual colors in early versions of Minecraft, but with the current light system this is no longer the case. It would require additions to the light system, the renderer, the map file format, and the network protocol. (A technical proposal can be found here, behind the cut.)

Will it cause lag?
Yes, unfortunately the addition of colored light will lower your frame rate. How much? This is hard to predict until someone actually tries it on a variety of hardware, but there's no reason to believe it will be anything drastic. It will also have an impact on memory use -- 64 KB per unpacked chunk to be precise. And of course the color information will have to go over the network somehow. If necessary, it would be possible to add an option to simply ignore the color information, and keep the current system where all block lights have the same yellowish color.

Yes, there are some mods for colored glass and there are older mods that have colored light implemented into MC. Here are just a few of these projects:
• Kovu, a follower of this topic has been working on a colored light prototype. wheather he is doing it with the current minecraft engine or not is unclear but if it is, this proves that colored light is indeed possible with the current lighting engine. it may just need some performance updates. -_^

• Nocte, one of the followers of this topic is very knowledgeable of what is going on behind all the gears and pendulums of Minecraft and has been working on this project. He may even tackle colored light. -_^

I added colored sand as an option for crafting colored glass because it would kills 2 birds with one stone. It would solve problems for people wanting colored glass and people wanting more color variations in standard blocks such as non-burnable, gravity, and stairs/slabs. The colored sand idea actually wouldn't require any new blocks or textures at all. The reason why, is because of how it could be programed. Much like how the biomes change the color of grass and leaves, both can wool and sand. Thus all blocks or future blocks that are craft able from sand or wool could be done in the same way; being colored entirely in code and decreasing the textures needed for the blocks. This solution would obviously require a change to how entities work but it would make way for limitless amount of colored items much like how leather armor works.
Now you may still be thinking, "well, that still doesn't fix the items being displayed in the inventory" actually it wouldn't be much of a problem since all of these items are just as hard to craft, having an inventory full of different colored sandstone blocks and the like, is only the fruits of your labors; having to collect dies, making cored sand and crafting them into stone. If what you are worrying about is the creative menu being overly crowded; this also wouldn't be a problem since the 1.3.1 update that added an improved creative mode inventory with
categorized tabs for various items/blocks and a search menu. If more colored blocks are added, they could simply just be added into to their own tab with would be extremely useful for pixel art artists and the like.
If you are still unsatisfied with colored sand being a step in creating of colored glass, we have discussed other options as colored sand is only a suggestion. Please look at "Cool Ideas by you guys" above for more information.

Easier yes, but wouldn't make much sense. Colored sand would mimic how real colored glass is created and it would open up more opportunities for new blocks using colored sand; including colored sandstone steps. Also, considering the "special properties" of colored glass, I believe it should be slightly harder to craft instead of simply adding color. with that said, I do not intend to say my crafting proposition is the best solution. In fact there have been many great alternative suggestions that have been made here. So keep thinking critically, innovate on existing ideas and give us some great suggestions!

Yes, in fact we even heard back from Mojang on the topic; Nathan Adams also known as Dinnerbone from Mojang stressed that they have indeed been noticing the feedback on colored glass from the community. He also stated that colored glass is indeed possible and hinted that implementation of colored glass is not a "no"; which is exciting news.
Unfortunately, he also informed us that colored light is impossible on a large scale with the current lighting engine. However he also stated: "The lighting system is extremely broken and needs rewriting" this could mean that there is still a chance, if re-written, a new lighting engine may be able to support colored light. But this is uncertain.

So basically what we can assume from all this is:
1) colored glass is very much possible in the current version of Minecraft; except it wouldn't allow other transparent textures to be seen through the glass (much how ice and water works in MC) and it would be difficult to ad a Z-buffer without having performance issues on slow platforms. This may not be much of an issue as most people will not have a reason to blend the colors of glass by stacking and though not completely transparent, it may look ok anyway. however I feel if a z buffer were added, perhaps there could be a toggle in video settings to turn off z-buffering for those who are playing on slower computers. Dinnerbone also hinted that the implementation of colored glass into vanilla is neither a yes or a no... so, I wouldn't give up on it just yet, guys. -_^

I pray this becomes at least 1% more popular than my "The Haven" idea. Like the latter idea, this post contains images of what I'm trying to show off. Better I give you that than a baseless wall of text. If this idea gets enough support, I will keep adding to it. This includes good suggestions from other people as well.
This also mixes in with KakarottoYo's idea:

No. And I'm probably the 0.00003% of Earth's population that thinks this way. I think Nether Villagers should be something original, or something's that close to being original, and not some cheap Pigmen copy (zombie or otherwise).
I think large minotaur-man creatures represent their defensive nature better than pigmen anyway.
I don't care for the details, I just wanna see images!

So... The Nether Villagers in that image... What are they?
They're a mix between minotaurs and humans. These creatures are a combination of two things, which is sort of like pigmen, so if you wanted these creatures to resemble pigmen in some way, there you go. They are a bit taller than the player.
Why are their left arms nothing but a bone?
Perhaps they all have the same genetic defect. These are one of those things where players must debate that for themselves.
How do they behave normally?
Like their Overworld counterparts, they stay together (although not as tightly) and have different color versions to "resemble" their occupation. They don't need some hulk or golem to protect them, as they can beat the living hell out of enemies (players and mobs alike) all on their own, if provoked, but they attack alone, and not together. They walk slightly slower than a zombie.
With addition of Nether mobs coming out of portals to the Overworld, the Nether Villagers can do this too, though this is painfully rare. Every night has a 1% chance of this happening, and can only happen on a non-raining night. If a N. Villager enters the Overworld, it will just wonder around aimlessly.
How do they behave on the Peaceful difficulty?
Exactly the same as this thread describe's them, but they don't get provoked. Meaning you can beat them as hard as you want without penalty. On Peaceful mode...
What do they live in?
Caves found in the Nether. These caves are often supported by Nether Brick. Torches can be occasionally found in these caves.
How rare are these villages/caves?
About 20% rarer than that of an Overworld village.
What sounds do they make?
They rarely make sound, but when they do, they sound like normal human grunts, although with a very deep pitch and echo. The "Mystic", "Collector" and "Colossus" variations have a much more powerful and distant echo.
When taking damage, they emit a deep "human plus bull" type grunt.
How do they respond to specific world hazards?
Much like any other Nether creature, these new Villagers are unaffected by fire and are slowed when in lava.
If a N. Villager manages to reach the Overworld through a player's portal. The sun not will damage them.
How are they provoked?
They are provoked by either hitting them or stealing from their chests (if they see it). They only get provoked individually, and do not attack in groups like wolves or Zombie Pigmen.
How do they attack?
Just by following you and touching you. Each hit varies depending on the type of N. Villager you provoked. They do not stay hostile, as they will hit you 1-2 times for every time you hit them, stand still and stare at you as if to wait for a response. If you hit them too many times, they will keep hitting you until death. They do not attack as a group if just one N. Villager was hit. A "Collector" N. Villager will never lose its hostility.

Yes, unlike the light brown ones found in the Overworld, the ones found in Nether Village caves are a dark red with a yellow lock, but have the exact same mechanics as an Overworld one. You can call them "Nether Chests" or "Dark Chests" if need be. The GUI on the new chests is dark red, rather than the normal grey.
What do they drop on death?
They drop 0-1 horns. They can be used to brew an Angry Potion. The "Baron", "Mystic" and "Collector" types can drop more than just their horns.
What could be found in these new chests?
Look at the list below. Top to bottom = Least to most rare:
- Soul Sand
- Netherbrick Fence
- Iron Ore
- Gold Ore
- Iron Ingot
- Gold Ingot
- Nether Wart Seed
- Ripe Nether Wart
A "Ripe" Nether Wart is something that is only found in a N. Villager chest in an area where an Alchemist lives. As you could have guessed, this new Ripe Nether Wart is chemically altered rather than just physically. In brewing, the Ripe Nether Wart added to a water bottle will create an Excess Potion. Ripe Nether Warts can also be eaten, which will regenerate both health and hunger for 2 minutes.
These potions act like Awkward Potions, but will double any effects and double the time. Any potions created from an Excess Potion will have a green aura, rather than the standard blue one.
Do different colored Nether Villagers have their own attributes?

Added Abilities: Does +2 damage. Moves +15% faster. Drops an extra 1-2 exp. orbs on death.
Spawn Chance in Village: 20%
Added Abilities: Does +2 damage with extra knockback. Moves +25% faster. Drops an extra 2-4 exp. orbs on death.
Spawn Chance in Village: 18%
Rampant (Colors based off ShadowKreach's idea)
Added Abilities: Does -2 damage. Moves +50% faster. This is a mob you may not want to kill due to its potential trades. Drops 3-6 exp. orbs on death.
Spawn Chance: 5%
Hunter (Based off DeJoth's idea)
Added Abilities: Does +2 damage. Moves +15% faster. Attacks Zombie Pigmen, Magma Cubes and Ghasts that come near them. Drops 2 extra exp. orbs on death. Can jump up to 3 blocks in height.
Spawn Chance in Village: 15%
Added Abilities: Does +2 damage with extra knockback. Moves +10% faster. Can seldomly "telekenetic" punch any enemy from 10 blocks away, although this can easily dodged as the Mystic will remain completely still when "charging" this "telekenetic" punch. This is the only mob that can flawlessly hurt a Ghast if they're close enough. When killed, this mob can drop any valid item in Minecraft's existence. Drops an extra 2-4 exp. orb on death. Can sometimes deflect arrows. Immune to all splash potion effects.
Spawn Chance in Village: 7%
Added Abilities: Does +8 damage with insane knockback. Will never lose its hostility once made. Each hit has a 30% chance to make the player drop any item in his inventory at random. Will drop 1-3 of any rare item on death, as well as 35 experience.
Spawn Chance in Village: 2%
Added Abilities: Oh my friend, you're looking at the rarest gem of Nether Villagers. Moves +20% faster. Will never become hostile against players, although it can never take damage. Receives -30% knockback. Can teleport just like an Enderman, but this occurs only when it wants to return to its "village area" and can't get back to it by just average walking and jumping. Go ahead, add some ingots in his village's chest, and see how friendly he really is.
Spawn Chance in Village: 0.05% (1% on Hardcore)
Do these Nether Villagers have their own spawn eggs in Creative Mode?
Yes, and each Nether Villager type has their own chance amount of appearing when the egg is used:
- Normal - 90%
- Torus - 85%
- Baron - 70%
- Rampant - 50%
- Hunter - 45%
- Tormenter - 10%
- Colossus - 0%
Where exactly in these Nether Villager caves do the dark red chests exist?
In the deepest part of their caves, although they can be rarely found near the cave's entrance as well.
How big can these caves be?
Imagine a normal Overworld village fitting inside a cave, that's how big they can be.

How do they inflict damage?
They do NOT always do the max amount of damage that you see in the list of Nether Villager types. They can also do a minimum of -4 hit points of damage. For example, a Baron is capable to doing between 4 and 8 points of damage, which is randomized between these limits.

Do these Nether Villagers trade like the normal ones?
Yes, the currency they accept is Blood Diamonds, here is a chart of what each N. Villager trades.
Normal, Torus and Baron
They do not sell items.
Hunters have no interest in trading.
Tormenters have no interest in trading.
Tormenters have no interest in trading.

What does an Enchanting Orb do?
If you're lucky enough to have a Mystic appear, and not ed off enough to not trade with you, you'll have access to this item. An Enchanting Orb can be used to give any weapon or tool a single random enchantment at no level cost, but it will only give it the weakest version of an enchantment, so it's best to this orb when something is already enchanted.
Using this orb on an already enchanted item will make all existing enchantments upgrade an interval. Meaning "Sharpness III" can be set to "Sharpness IV". Enchantments at their highest levels will go no higher. If all enchantments are maxed out, a new enchantment at its weakest is added.

My thoughts on other things.
New lapis texture > Not much different than the old one. It's just darker with a border. It does look better McGamer will be happy!
New charcoal texture > Nice to see the 2 types of coal having their own texture.
New Coal block > I really cannot decide The screenshot below shows old with new next to OB
Obcidian does need a new texture. It's ugly as #$%@#!! I'm currently using the basfalt coblestone texture from redpower!
