Dear sweet Jesus Master Caver you're STILL caving as hard as you were back in the day?! You give me hope that my minecraft isn't a dying community. Mad respect.

posted a message on How Slabs Changed Minecraft Forever

I don't know that I can agree with you about new block types increasing the complexity all that much I think of them as providing more diversity within the existing paradigm. Obviously halfslabs did increase the complexity a bit but no more than say redstone/droppers/command blocks etc which are part of what I consider bedrock (no relation) features.

Also on a not-really-related note you have to admit halfslab classic is one mighty fine looking block, nothing else quite looks as snappy as well executed halfslab

Since Notch limited the expansion of fire I feel like the game has lost much of that naked-in-the-face-of-natures-wrath feel. Now if a fire starts where you didn't intend for a fire to start its at best a minor inconvenience, but fire used to be fire and if it started where it wasn't supposed to be you had seconds to get it stamped out before it turned into full blown "You fool, what have you done?! Martha get the children! Run! Run for your lives!" and all that would remain afterwords was devastation. You got to be one of those people you see in news coverage of disasters desultorily picking through the remains of their lives in the vain hope something valuable would be left.

I still remember the days in early beta to alpha where there weren't even
beds. You had to work through the night, no sleeping through it.

I think what my esteemed colleague meant to say is that you got to work through the night, every night.

posted a message on Is there a way to reset the end?

I've been playing on the same map since alpha and for various reasons am unwilling to start a new one. Unfortunately my enderdragon is glitched and just stays stuck in place never taking or doing any damage. Is there some way I can reset my end so I can attempt to enjoy all that delicious The End content?

Also, it seems like a mod that just changed the UI shouldn't cause any irreparable damage to a save file right? I know once upon a time I was able to deactivate just cat sounds in the options menu but I don't remember if that was from a mod or if it was vanilla functionality that has since been removed.

Thanks for bestowing your knowledge upon me Master of Caving (Is there a JourneymanCaver?)

Issues with mods that change world generation shouldn't be a problem as I wouldn't have any interest in changing world gen. (when Notch introduced snow/biomes [I can't remember which or if he added both at the same time] slices of Legionholm suddenly turned into biomes where it snows and oh my god the rage...).

You're saying that using a mod that introduced blocks (like Builder's Guides for example) shouldn't cause any problems so long as the heretical blocks have been deleted before MC updates or I return it to the righteous purity of Vanilla? Would Heretical mobs function the same way? Could I include sexy sexy mammoths and then simply delete them if they wouldn't work past a certain update?

posted a message on I must be certain I can continue my current map through all future updates until the end of time, can I risk using mods?

I've been working on the same fortress map since Notch had a day job and don't want to risk having my baby corrupted or ruined-forever-all-is-lost so I have avoided modding almost completely (I felt like I was a crazy-man when I finally convinced myself to use MCedit). Waaaaay back in alpha for a time I used a texture pack that was just a higher resolution version of vanilla but after having to diddle with it every time an update came out or learning it wasn't supported anymore so i'd have to find another etc made me decide to just stick with vanilla. (btw I haven't ever regretted the OG vanilla-fo-life decision even once. I also love vanilla because it makes building tip swapping far more useful ie but-it-looks-like-crap-without-his-specific-texturepack. You sub-human texture pack users are like a disease and should be stopped.)

This hasn't stopped me over the years from watching a good number of mod spotlights/reading about things that would be nice to have and sighing wistfully to myself (I see Mo' Creatures mods and gaze longingly upon its Mamoth-y splendor knowing she can never be mine). Anyway just today I saw a thread (http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2166202-builders-guides-v1-8-9-1-0-0-v1-9-0-3-1-beta-1-9-4) and thought to myself "OK self having something like this would provide too much quality-of-life for us to not at least investigate mods more thoroughly. Maybe my fears about block mods ruining Legionholm are unjustified, maybe I can have my Mamoth-ladden cake and eat it too.

So, in short, will having blocks from mods in my save make it explode once said mod is no longer supported? Will they just turn into those pink and black minecraft-isnt-sure-wth-this-is-suppposed-to-be blocks? Does it depend on the mod? Is there some way to hedge against having problems come up?

I made a thread along these lines once before, but the only response I got was about 1.8 specifically and how nothing was up-to-date-yet (except my master-race vanilla texture pack, of course). I need to know more generaly about the ramifications of out-of-date mods etc.

Does your platform include an effort to counsel creepers to try and help them resolve their self destructive behavior. (srsly next they'll be getting a bunch of facial piercings and start drinking heavily.)

posted a message on Microsoft/Mojang Deal Confirmed.
I can't help but feel a sense of impending catastrophe and it has nothing to do with whether or not Microsoft is competent/skilled it has to do with the fact that they are a massive ruthlessly profit driven corporation. Their only priority will be to squeeze as much money out of it as possible. Yes Mojang made money but I thinks its clear that their priority was the quality of the game (except for Jeb the racist whose priority is creating a fascist cuboid world of racially pure enderdragons. I hope the MCworld can one day integrate so that red dragons and black may one day hook talons in peace and unity)

These kinds of corporations whith no actual interest in whatever it is they're peddling are responsible for things like charging gamers for DLC which has 40 minutes of playing time instead of just focusing on expanding the actual game. A friend bought MC for me for 10 euros like five years ago and, without ever once trying to get more out of me they've kept updating my game with new content all these years later. I think Microsoft will likely kill minecraft as soon as plausible so they can sell us all Minecraft 2: Modern Warfare whose design priority will not be pleasing the niche sandbox game demographic but creating something that will appeal more to the more profitable mainstream demographics that want mindless shooters or fast paced skill intensive click fests like LoL or Starcraft. then instead of just releasing updates they'll release DLC each of which cost more than I paid for the original back in the day.

also corporations hate PC gamers and I don't give a rats about the XBOX or PS3 or calculator watch version of minecraft. You can have real versions of Minecraft when I can play FFXIII on my lappy.

To be honest who would turn down 2.5 billion just for a game? :I

JUST FOR A GAME?! You make me sick you subhuman filth. Minecraft is far more than just a game it's- wait, did you say billion with a B? Notch could start his own nuclear weapons program with that, or buy a small country, or get an alienware computer even! He could even get some real hair installed!
