We also do not endorse the return of past generators or a new world option.
If you want to discuss these said features, you are in the WRONG THREAD.
The topic of this thread is a question: "did the terrain become boring?" and a search for a way to fix the current terrain generator to make it less boring. This is stated in the OP, and has been reiterated throughout the 500+ pages of this thread.
Discussion about a return to a past terrain generator is considered off topic, not only because the OP specifically says so, but because it's not a reasonable possibility. If you wish to return to a previous generator, please make an appropriate thread for that suggestion, or use one of the numerous methods to actually use the old terrain generator.

Once again, that is not what this thread is about. We don't want the old terrain back. We want an improved terrain.
I'm not sure why, but this post was deleted. It's respectful, true, and doesn't violate the rules of this forum.
Lol man whenever someone says that I see you or someone else feel they must post that this thread does not want the old generator back. He probably knows you don't want the old generator back and decided to say that, on the contrary, he does. Its his opinion. Hence why he sais "IMO."
It's his opinion that he want's the terrain generator back. It's the opinion of the supporters of this thread that we don't want the terrain generator back (that includes the OP). I know he knows, but it's important to make sure the people reading this for the first time understand what the thread is about. It's still about making improvements to the current generator.
If he doesn't like being corrected about that, he should make his own thread.
He could also just use one of the many methods of actually using the old generator. It IS available after all...
Yes, but there's so much more that could be done, but once again, Mojang doesn't seem so willing to do it. They've made the terrain better, no question about that.
There's always more that can be done. The patch isn't even close to being finished yet. Have some optimism! =^.^=
i personally hate every single update, litterally, for the simple reason tat it changes my habits. once i get used to it though, it's ok i guess. but i definitey am not going to get used to the new biomes.
Oh dear god.
Please don't say this stuff in front of the devs. They probably already think everyone here is just afraid of change.
On the contrary, we have some legitimate gripes, and some constructive suggestions.
How much space does a redstone byte take up on the map, typically?
If you're talking in terms of an 8 bit shift register, it takes up 8 long x 1 high x 2 wide, or if you need to take the information in parallel: 16x1x2. There also needs to be a clock line, but these can be shared by multiple registers, so I haven't included them in the size.
I find it slightly weird that you're stalking me on the minecraft forums, but thanks for the bump.
Not to be nit-picky, but I'm pretty sure most advanced combo locks are based on shift registers... O.o
I haven't seen any others that use shift registers like this, but I did say that these are fairly simple concepts. Someone must have done something like this at some point.
It's frankly embarrassing to have one of the biggest threads on the forum be about something as ignorable as terrain. (Especially with the 1.7 changes.)
Since terrain is the single biggest and most noticeable feature in the entire game, I'm going to go ahead and say that you're incorrect. The terrain isn't ignorable.
If you look in the suggestions forum, you will occasionally see a really good suggestion. Chances are it will never be implemented. It is somewhat sad, but there are just too many suggestions that people have to look through and consider implementing good ones. If you were to say, publicize your case in some grand fashion, then you'd have a better chance. (Making a thread is minimally impactful.)
Publishing our case in a grand fashion?
You mean like having one of the longest running threads on the entire forum? Or how about having a dev post in our thread? What if we sent a physical letter to Mojang?
Would that be enough to qualify as "grand fashion"?
Let me stop you right there. He's NOT the one who's annoying.
You know who is? The guy who came into the thread telling EVERYONE HERE to PLEASE SHUT UP NOW
I'd prefer if you took your own advice.
after two years that this thread has been hanging around you still haven't let the issue go.
Right... because nothing has changed. Irrelevant changes haven't even happened. The terrain basically hasn't been touched AT ALL, despite the devs acknowledging that it needs some work.
Just to be clear, you're seriously trying to convince all of us that we shouldn't care about the terrain... even though we actively post in a thread about changing the terrain? Does that not sound a little dim to you?
If we didn't care about the terrain, we never would have posted here in the first place.
kinda. Have you actually looked at the snapshot? I have yet to see an actual gravel beach. What I do see are small patches of gravel at the edge of some lakes.
Regardless of your prediction, it's important to give the devs feedback about the new features. That's what an official forum is for.
Uuhh...sure. We'll go with that.
And earlier I meant to say "I think YOU'RE the one missing implications.
That "don't" was left behind from an earlier thought I had, so I forgot to backspace it.
mmmhm. There's a lot of sarcasm in this discussion.
I have, for the sole reason that I DON'T CARE. It is a small, ignorable issue, and most beaches I see are added on to desert biomes so it's barely noticeable.
This whole thread is easier to ignore than the lack of beaches... yet here you are. Almost every person who actively supports this thread disagrees that beaches are "a small, ignorable issue". What's your plan? Are you going to try to convince all of us that we shouldn't care?
No, and typically when someone gripes they keep doing it until they get their way. Annoyingly so. The annoying part is what differentiates griping from being persistent.
This thread has had more than one interaction with devs, so evidently they don't find us annoying. On the other hand, I'd wager that almost everyone here finds your persistence highly annoying. Does that mean what you're doing is griping? /philosoraptor
Short list? The ideal generation according to you people is nowhere near that of the current generator. I suppose "nitpicking" would be a better term for what you're doing, rather than giving specifications.
Who exactly do you mean by "you people"?
If the ideal generation according to the aforementioned people is nowhere near that of the current generator, how are those people "nitpicking"?
How is requesting a short list of features and improvements "nitpicking"?
If it was a thread about requesting features, you would have let it go by now. A "request" is one a done. A gripe stays until it is either alleviated or rejected.
Why? The features we want have not been implemented, and thus we continue to discuss it among ourselves, refine the list, and find new supporters and modes of communication with the dev team.
If a mod has done it, it nearly guarantees that it will never be something implemented into vanilla.
So you're just going to completely ignore the fact that almost everything added to the game in the last couple years has been in a mod first?
You know like, hoppers, pistons, redstone, XP, enchanting, potions, everything in support of adventure maps, smooth lighting, extra ores, dyes, selectable versions, and now new biomes...
just a thought, are you sure they aren't weirdly shaped lakes? I found a lot of unusual shaped lakes which could be mistaken for a very wide river. I had to look twice at them because at first glance I thought they might be rivers.
No, I'm talking about river biomes. They seem more solid than before... aside from patchy beaches.
Obviously the difference between forests and flower forests is the amount of flowers. Also i don't care what "the point" is. I prefer less colors, period.
I do care, and I very much disagree with you on this one. I like flower forests just the way they are.
I found there was less rivers generating than previously. I think continent style generation might have improved slightly. need to play a bit more.
I've found the exact opposite. There seem to be more rivers than before. I think they may have changed the generation method, though. The ones I've seen are wider and better defined than they were. The beaches are still weak, though.
I don't know... it might just be too random to make these determinations.

It's not perfect, but major changes have already started happening.

On topic. I kinda hope that small plains biomes are a lucky accident, rather than an intentional construction.

You haven't, so what's your point?
I don't honestly believe you, and I'd wager that slimy won't either.
Congratulations on an epic failure.

RIGHT. So we need to make sure our preferences and feedback on the snapshots is as clear as possible.

If you don't know what's inside a book, you don't get to make judgments about its contents. Either read the last 20 pages or so, or shut up.

As easily as I use any other meme.
Me neither.

That's ok, since we haven't given exact specifications. We've given a reletively short list of things that we'd like changed or added.
Requesting features ≠ griping
No.
