thank you that is my number one minecraft SP rule. No one realizes its true importance.

I personally completely forgot about your suicide suggestion, and now that i have been remined I agree with EvlD it shouldn't be included at all. if you screw up like what you were talking about its your own fault for changing minecraft to get yourself stuck.

That isn't a real objection. That's just saying "I don't like you or your stupid ideas and you should pay the consequences for messing with my beloved minecraft!" It follows that if we are going to make fists realistic, we should add a mechanism to make sure that doesn't break the game accidentally. It is a logical conclusion. If you don't like the original idea, critique that.

    Failedassassin,

I sincerely hope you realize that you are not only allowed to EDIT posts, but there is a helpful MultiQuote tool, to quote multiple posts in ONE post.

Huh, I never really noticed that. I am very used to responding to each post with a post of its own. Would it really look better if I responded to multiple people in one post vs. multiple posts? I looks better organized to me so people can skim through the beginning of each of my posts to see my responses to them instead of having to look through one big one.

You have double posted once, and triple posted twice already in this single thread. I'm not sure if this is because someone's posts in between yours was for some reason, deleted, but... it pains me to see this, especially from someone with a post count of currently "375" posts. I hope that this is not a common thing, as it is an eyesore in this thread.

On the plus side, I thank you for pointing out that felled is a word. That almost made me cry when I read that.

    On-Topic:
Some of these are good ideas for mods.
    Hunger Bar
    Acorns
    Fire spread(kinda)
    Day/Night Cycle
    Realistic Drops

These all mostly make sense, except for increasing the speed of which fire spreads.
It was hard enough to put out to begin with.
The purpose of increasing the speed gradually is to make it easier to put them out initially, and harder to put out later, as well as faster. Often in adventure maps, for instance, you are required to burn a wall or ceiling made of wool and it takes ages.
Most of them I don't care for.

One of them I do not agree with however.
    Suicide

You mention that you want it to be more realistic? How is adding an I give up option more realistic? If you fall into a pit of Stone and/or Logs while you have said mod that removes your ability to break them by hand, you should always have 64 dirt with you. And realistically you were probably mining anyways, so you'll have an axe or pickaxe with you. Now let's say, you DO fall in, and don't have an axe, pickaxe, or any blocks. Isn't this your own fault? Shouldn't your punishment for being so careless in a game where you wanted more "realism" be that you have to restart?
This is too mean spirited for me. If you want to play iron man, play iron man. I don't think a 2meter deep hole should be more life threatening than lava. I always try to carry a stack of dirt and cobble with me, but this is a contingency issue.
Your logic on this topic is... strange to say the least.
Go back and read the suicide part again. I've tried to explain and justify it.
But like I said, I do agree with some of these mod ideas.

its quite the concept there. I love the majority of it too.

as to picking up items I just suggest you pay more attention like i do, but either way it does sound interesting.

I personally think that if item stack numbers are reduced then that would make it just annoying to store anything in the game. i never had 500 feathers at once, but I've had chests of thousands of stone.

I think that if you have these limiting you then you need to add some more positive additions. Balkon weapons adds a number of different weapons which can help you alot especially if you are encountering monsters. If you get any ideas for adding positive things please post them. I'd love ot play this style of minecraft, but with some more good reasons like new weapons, more items, special stuff. I think having an improved world to play in could be cool with these limitations. things like rivers, bigger forests, more expansive caves.

I understand what you are saying. I have like 20 chests full of stone and dirt in my vanilla minecraft game. But the point here is to accommodate a Man vs. Minecraft style of play. I also think you have a good point when you say I should add positive additions to balance out the negative additions. I will keep that in mind. What you are talking about with improved environment sounds like the Biome+ mod or something.

Glowsand needs a new recipe, because regular glowstone is crafted with just 4 glowdust now. I suggest just make it a 1:1 ratio of glowdust to glowsand.

yes, i find that the 1/8th block thing to be a bit much.

with an increased size you would have to havean increased height, and any more height would make the game more laggy. it would also make, as said previously, mining and such MUCH harder.

other than that, its going along well. maybe some more ideas?

Well, you wouldn't HAVE to increase the height, but as I said, adding another set of chunks on the y axis would not lag the game much at all if those chunks were completely air, allowing you to subsequently build towers in them or something. Another, more radical idea would be to shift the whole overworld downwards towards the bedrock and then make the nether a half deep level overworld half netherworld amalgam. Right now the nether seems pretty empty on its y axis. I think netherchunks are just as big as regular chunks but they have very little variation. You can mine down or build up and it's all just netherrack...

    More ideas coming, yessir!

    This mod is... large.
I like the idea of 1/8th blocks, but there is no need to have the entire world made out of them. If 1/8th blocks are only going to be used for aesthetics, then one could easily craft them first. Making the world out of 1/8th blocks would do nothing more than make mining more difficult, and kill furnaces. Not to mention you would have to re-write almost ALL of Notch's coding, including the lighting.

I am sorry, but this needs revising. I think you have some terrific thoughts, but I think you should discuss the mods with someone else (by voice, like on skype or steam). This would help you work out some of the flaws. If you want, you can add me on skype and I would be happy to discuss your ideas with you. If you want to do that, please pm me.

The world would be in a much higher resolution if things were made out of 1/8th blocks. Instead of seeing sharp jagged hills everywhere, things would be a gradient.
Mining would not be much more difficult because mining speed would be increased 8x. I mean, it could be play-tested to compare the time spent mining out various things, and I'm sure you could speed it up to a point where it would not be a problem.
Just like we can have 1/8th blocks in a 1/1 block world, you could have 1/1 blocks in an 1/8th block world. So no, this would not 'kill' furnaces.
This is a perspective change with the character, and it would not require any significant re-coding of terrain generation. It makes your character bigger, making the blocks appear smaller. Thus, everything becomes 1/8th blocks. No recoding of lighting needed (though I would like to change that in a separate adjustment.)
Hey, I love the criticism. As long as you don't fault me as a person for coming up with bad ideas now and again, I take no offense.

I'm pretty sure that if two trees are close enough to have their leaves touching, there is no way(as far as I know) for the tree's leaves to decay automatically. They would be connected to the second tree and just decay normally since the aren't any logs near.

Well I don't really care about trees in a forest. I'm talking about big lone trees which have all these 'branches' stuck in their leaves and make you wait around for them to decay.

    Wow. Haha.

1st: Basically, you want to take away the blocky part of Minecraft. Good luck. It starts as 1/8 and gets smaller and smaller, right? :tongue.gif:

2nd: Right-clicking to pick up items? Outside of the aforementioned right click PLACING items, this would make picking up items off the ground WAY longer than normal, as you have to go around and sweep them all instead of just picking them up.

3rd: This idea isn't TOO bad, but not original at all, and it would be difficult to tell which leaves belong to which tree and not take down the leaves for adjacent/touching trees.

    1. No, blocks are vital to the interactivity and sandbox nature of the game. I simply want to make the world one level more detailed, that's it. Any smaller and things would get very difficult. If we went one level more detailed, to 1/64th blocks, the character would have to be 4 times taller. This would, from the perspective of the player, make mountains look about 16 blocks tall in reference to how they are perceived now. That's a bit ridiculous... I see vertical scaling as the biggest problem with the idea. Of course, you could just RP as a giant.

    2. Maybe it would, I don't think so, but I'm cool with that.

    3. When you cut down the bottom log on the trunk, this could say "destroy all naturally generated logs/leaves within the maximum boundary of tree width." Or maybe "destroy all leaves adjacent to destroyed logs" so at least I wouldn't have to wait around for the leaves to decay to get my logs and most of them would be taken out.
