    Good Morning!

Just when I thought Java was almost finished, out comes a technical experiment, so

They're quite barren, even more so than strongholds.

Well, we haven't reached pre-release phase quite yet so I'd say about two months.

    I'd say you're about right.

posted a message on not getting treasure from fishing

There has been an interesting chance to fishing mechanics in the snapshots.

    From the Wiki:

    Fishing

    • When fishing, treasure loot can now only be obtained by fishing in open waters.
      • A fishing location is considered to be open water if each layer
      • in the 5x4x5 area around the bobber meets one and only one of the
        following criteria:
          • Have only water source blocks, waterlogged blocks without collision, or bubble columns.

    • Have only air or lily pads.

You didn't say how big your fishing pond is, but it's probably too small for the new mechanics. I've been fishing in a river for years now, and I'm going to have to deepen it.

posted a message on Does anyone know when 1.16 is coming?

I assume that the plan is to release the Nether Update before September.

There's a lot of content to be added, refined and debugged, and the same to be done for Bedrock and China as I assume they'll release their updates around the same time, but my uneducated guess is that if the developers resist the urge to make major technical changes also it should be possible,

posted a message on Two Wandering Traders - 1.15 pre-2

I've had two in existence twice, I chalked the first up to chunk unloading - I'd been running between my base and worksite. The second was more interesting, there were definitely two in closeish proximity near my worksite - I don't think they were far enough away to get unloaded as I moved around but I suppose it's possible.

posted a message on Who else remembers the Minecraft Handbooks?

I encountered a copy of the Beginner's Handbook in - I think - August or September 2014. After conducting some "research" at my local newsagent (six month old overseas publications) I downloaded the demo and a few weeks later made my first ever online purchase. I have the full set of both editions on a shelf beside me.

1.15 will also have a rewrite of the rendering system, that's creating a ton of bugs and it's barely started. I'm thinking of it as what 1.13 was originally intended as, a mainly technical update with minimal new content.

posted a message on Is this considered cheating?? (SOLVED)

Restoring a backup isn't a free lunch - your recreation time isn't infinite - but it can make the learning curve less painful. What did you learn from this experience? What might you do differently if you planned to summon another demon armed with military-grade explosives? (You would have discovered the diamonds - and the lava - eventually, so knowing where they were didn't give you your time back.)

posted a message on What do you think of the bees?

I like them. They fit in so well that I'm almost surprised not to see them buzzing around my main world. Yes, they're big, but so are spiders, silverfish and endermites. In a world with floating boulders and a personal sun, they're not that weird.

posted a message on Bees and bee hives

    From Minecraft.net::

    Bee

    We’re buzzing with excitement!

Can someone tell Cory to stop making bee puns now?

      • Bees are cute, fuzzy, neutral mobs

      • Don’t hurt them, they don’t want to hurt you

      • If a bee does sting you, it will leave its stinger in you and eventually die, dropping nothing :(

      • Bees love pretty flowers and spend their lives gathering pollen from them

      • After gathering pollen, bees fly back to their home nest

      • Bees help you by growing crops while carrying pollen back to the nest

      • Bees can be bred using flowers

      • Bees like sharing the location of their favorite flowers with other bees

      • If a bee can't find nectar, after a while it will return home for a bit

      • If a bee doesn’t have a home nest, it will wander around until it finds one it can use

      • Bees don’t like the rain and they sleep at night. They will go back to the nest in these cases

Do they have access to flowers? If not, try giving them some.

posted a message on Remove AFK Fishing

Active nerfing - as distinct from bugfixing - seems more likely to involve potentially-laggy elaborations of the base mechanic, and selecting your method to minimise collateral damage could be an interesting logical exercise. But since the game has already gone there, here's a gossip-inspired proposal.

    The Nerf:

Unless the target block has 5 other water blocks directly adjacent (e.g. below and on all 4 sides) only fish can be caught.

You could still catch fish in shallow lakes and narrow ditches, and single-water-block farms would still technically work, but to get the full range of loot you would need to find or make a larger pool. I can hear the Skyblock players screaming already.

The inventors would certainly find a way to beat this challenge, but it would probably be larger and more elaborate than current farms. More screams from the Skyblockers, have to make the compensation good for them.

    The Compensation:

    • Fishing enchantments can be legitimately obtained up to level 5, but levels above 3 must be built on an anvil. You can have them, but you'll have to earn them.
    • New enchantment, Beachcombing. Makes junk loot more likely, fish and treasure less likely. Incompatible with Luck of the Seas.
    • This would be a good time to add to the loot tables. Here are a few logical-seeming ideas
Water-related items seem so obvious that I'm surprised only shells have been added so far. Live corals might not fit the logic of "fishing" but the dead types would make good junk.

"Pebbly" items (nuggets, flint, coal) also appear to make logical sense. They would obviously be treasure, and probably rare.

Plant materials (leaves, grass, etc and perhaps the occasional log) are also "natural" choices. Making these items more common in rain might be over-complicated, but if practical it would nicely imply the existence of weather effects such as floods and runoff.

That's all I can think of for now.

posted a message on Which optifine version is good for 1.8.9?

The most recent version is on the top of the list, unless you have a specific reason to use a different one I'd go with that.

They're also giving back crafting grid repairing in pre-3. Maybe they're rethinking a few decisions.

posted a message on Elude endermen

Endermen on their own aren't especially dangerous, if you don't feel prepared to tackle them then don't.

Hunting flying monsters in a monster-infested wilderness is more than challenging enough without attention-phobic Nightmares crashing your party. Making some form of shelter before you go looking for trouble is usually a good idea. Of course, if you are attacked before you have time to build anything you will simply have to make the best of whatever you have.

    EDIT

Since my combat skills would make a pacifist laugh, perhaps I overdo the risk-reduction.

posted a message on Villager Trades changing?

Ouch! That sounds like a major bug to me. Since the PS4 version is still being developed it will probably be fixed, ask on your section of the forum to see if anyone knows a solution.

posted a message on An Interesting Choice in 1.14.3 That Will Affect your Defence.

In order to fix a major bug in the enchanting table, they are reverting all changes to the enchanting system. A more permanent fix will hopefully be included in 1.15, the protection changes may come back then.
