posted a message on Cubic Chunks: Reduced lag, infinite height, and more [The #1 Suggestion Thread of all time!][Updated! 6/14]
    Quote from BugBatts37110»

It does, up to 15 blocks, like a regular light source.

[…]you could store a 2D array of integers representing the height of the highest non-transparent block in each vertical column.

Vanilla already does that. I think Cubic chunks' issue is more about when blocks move around far above in unloaded chunks.

Whatever, the editor just doesn't work. The first quote is supposed to say: "If I'm not mistaken, sunlight does not travel horizontally, only vertically."

The first quote is meant to say "If I'm not mistaken, sunlight does not travel horizontally, only vertically.", but apparently the editor here just never works. I even tried to post it again in a new reply and it just discarded my message completely, after first appearing like it posted a duplicate of the previous one. This forum really needs some bugfixes.

    Test

What? Does it append to my previous message? Can anyone else see this?

    posted a message on SkyChest

Due to the Minecraft forum shutdown/archiving, I'm moving this to Planet Minecraft: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/skychest-4322464/

About updating to 1.14: 1.14.3-pre2 still contains three critical issues, I hope those will get fixed soon. Here is the bug tracker filter, I recommend updating to the latest release once that list is empty: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-108469?filter=23011

It should still be possible to play SkyChest without too much interference of these bugs, in case that's necessary. But remember that even downgrading a .minecraft folder is not officially supported and can lead to various issues, including game crashes.

posted a message on 1.14 tag missing

I just tried to tag my map with "1.14", because it only works in that version, but found an empty list instead. Please add that tag.

I updated the post to 1.14.0 now. I don't recommend anyone to upgrade yet, because 1.14.0 contains many critical bugs, but hopefully 1.14.1 addresses those. And it was so much fun to make the map even more diabolically evil that I did it now already. 😈

The map was quite challenging in 1.8, then it became very hard in 1.9 and now it is absolutely ridiculously evil in 1.14. So many things came together perfectly that it almost appears to me as if Minecraft, especially 1.14, was made for SkyChest. If someone wants to play this map with me in a series of YouTube videos, please tell me! (and no, I won't spoil all the solutions)

I just noticed that nobody apart from me can see the edit history of the post. So I guess if someone wants the 1.8 version or the 1.9 version, just ask me and I'll look for and copy it.

1.14 adds the "wandering trader", which allows for getting renewable dirt in SkyBlock. I've researched a lot whether it's possible to just leave out the grass blocks without replacement, but sadly without water and without solid blocks, nothing can spawn, so the only new block you can get is saplings. I've also considered just putting a single unstable TNT block into the chest, but it would be annoying to have no grass at all during the entire gameplay on the map. So I'll just reduce the number of grass blocks to 1 for 1.14. You could use that to grow trees, but then it would very likely turn into dirt at some point. So you'll have to use the grass block as a spawning platform, which makes the beginning extremely slow. You'll have to do something against those phantoms…

The map was updated to 1.13! No content changes, except that I fixed the biome (in mountains you can get ice and liquid water, it rains and mobs spawn), but I changed a lot about the post:

    • I removed the challenges, they were pretty arbitrary anyway.
    • There's only one setup command now, they barely differed before anyway. You can set difficulty, keepInventory and naturalRegeneration yourself, if you want to, just like any other custom rule you want to set.
    • The setup is simplified in general, for example you can auto-activate a command block by setting it to "always active" while having the GUI open, then just pressing "done" completes the setup. And you don't have to pay attention to where you execute the command anymore, it's in a fixed location. As long as you're near 0 0, that's enough.
    • And a lot of other smaller changes, grammar, clearing up, formatting, etc.

Warning: I do not recommend updating to 1.13 yet, see this post. But as soon as 1.14 gets to a point where it's usable, I do recommend updating and my map is ready for it already. For 1.12, just use the 1.9 version in the post history, I think it still works (not tested).

Edit: You don't even have to fly near 0 0, you always spawn at 8 0 8 in an empty superflat world.

Edit2: I doubled the amount of dark oak leaves so that you have to reset the map less. With 64 leave blocks, you get an average of 3.2 leaves, but you need 4. By doubling the amount of leaves, the probability of a failure just from the initial leave drops goes down from 60% to 11%.

Edit3: You also have to be really fast in the beginning now, because after 70 minutes, phantoms begin to spawn.

posted a message on Small suggestion: Player model for reading book (or more?)

Now, two years later, I would suggest the opposite: Make books act like maps: You can read them when you look down, but you don't have to pause to open it.

    The other points:

    • Map: That's now implemented (not sure about the outside view on multiplayer, but I assume it's good).
    • Food, fishing rod, throwables: I still agree.
    • Clock, compass: I don't agree anymore, they are used as inventory items mainly. You don't need to perform an action to look at them, so it would be inconsistent when the animation triggers.

Note to self: When I update this to 1.13, I will change the biome to "mountains" (formerly "extreme hills"), because then you can get water at low heights (rain in cauldron) and ice at high heights. That's a really nice solution to this dilemma.

    Here is something: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Silence.ogg

It's actually empty, as can be seen by playing it in VLC, it has some problems with that (probably because it tries to cut off the silence at the beginning and end).

Here is a version I cut to minimum file size: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1pVA4gNoJi3OElyYmNRbEROU0U/view?usp=sharing

It's about one millisecond long, 64kbps, mono, 8000Hz sample rate, makes it 2.74KB, so it actually takes just as much space as an empty file, because magic.
