Jan 30, 2010So I was wondering, with these generic placeholding mobs, they drop items that have no relations to them whatsoever, aside from the string which could come from cloth, but obviously wont occur like that.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
The presence of feathers means that we'll most likely be getting aviaries eventually, or atleast their left-over nests in random trees. So that eliminates one.
Gunpowder seems to be easy also, refining coal into a powder, perhaps by 'smelting' it or some other process we don't have yet. That eliminates the second.
And string. Where would we get string? I'm guessing we'd get something similar to string from spider webs; although the whole process of how spiders would make webs is unknown to me. That's the more complex part of the issue, would they occur randomly with spiders and appear in caves along with them?
Basically, what are your thoughts on acquiring these later on? In future survival we wont be spoonfed as we are now.

Smelting diamonds wouldn't make any sense in the least. If anything they should be crushed in some sort of grinding mechanism. Possibly from a larger construction such as a windmill to power the grinding stone. This would separate the diamond from the rock.
Also, the melting point of a diamond is 3,820K, 6,416F, 3,546C. I don't think a simple flint stone would create the heat required to melt one.
How about refining them from Raw Diamonds?

[S][S][S] [S][F][S] [S][W][S]
With the wood in the ground. Its not too ubermazing. Then I throw my masses of ore into the flame, and get spammed by little bars of soap and butter on fire. I had an actual castle built, with towers and everything, an entire tower (5x5 and around 15 blocks tall nonetheless) made of iron blocks. but my attempt to make a drop-down 1-way to my mine with water at the bottom ended in disaster as I discovered 1-block deep water doesn't protect you from a 50-block fall...

Save it as something you'll remember, on desktop or in pictures and open it in Paint.net. Use Paint.net instead of default paint because Paint.net supports transparent tiles.
Jan 30, 2010Eh, I'd like to go against this idea. It seems that people going for hunger like to be on the surface, and think that people simply hole themselves up. Do you do that in indev? I think not!Posted in: Classic - Survival Mode
People will not hole themselves up in mines. They need to resurface for four reasons;
4. You need wood for a work bench
2. You need wood for equipment
3. You need wood for torches
It's extremely hard to mine in the dark. And then doing that with no equipment would definitely set you back. TNT is very useful at mining out rocks and other things, as well as for traps. You need sand to make TNT, and sand is only acquirable above ground. Although making TNT is a slow and tedious process, it's well worth it in the end if you ask me.
And I'd also like to state that i absolutely hate the idea of cities and kingdoms, and an economy.
Jan 30, 2010Yesterday I put together a simple skinning map for the new mobs. Here it is, I just highlighted the less obvious areas. Areas like the face and sides should be rather obvious. The eyebrows and eyes take their color from a few blocks, and that color goes onto the whole thing. I haven't found the one for the eyes, but I'll be looking for it. It's somewhere on the face.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
So this is just to get people started on skinning their new minecraft characters, theres much more possibilities and freedom but its a tad bit harder.
That's the skin map
That's a cheap ninja skin, made it because well, a ninja is pretty much one of the easiest things to skin. Just drag and drop it into your minecraft.jar, and it will replace White Steve with a ninja. If you want to replace Black Steve, rename it mcexport2.png
Oh yeah, and feel free to post any of your skins here. Have fun :tongue.gif:
I have NO idea what the random black and green squiggles are for, though. Will need researches.
Oh yes, and to clarify, the bottom portion of the skin is the overlaying textures, I.E. shirts, pantaloons, gloves, shoes. The top portion houses the flat layers. Currently there are no hats >.<
Jan 29, 2010I has screenshots of an awesome cave I just found. I didn't dig in it at all (Just a hole in the roof from when I fell in). Only coal in there, but an amazing loop with a lava pool, here are them screenies:Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
It just loops like that with no other entrances. It's awesome :tongue.gif:
