I was more just driving that the whole thought process along this implementation is consistent in it's tone even if I find it terrible. In that the whole thing is a huge time sink with no real profitable payoff. I apologize if I was unclear, I can see now that I am missing a few sentences in my original post I thought I had articulated better, wasn't trying to change the topic, just that I felt the issue was larger than merely the beacon half of the discussion in where their thought process was coming from.

Alright, wow reading the whole thread in one sitting was rough to do, but I figured since I did might as well toss in my two cents in agreement with some people. I also feel that the pyramid is no where near worth the cost, but I take it a step further that I don't think the Wither Boss itself is very well implemented.

It's basically a gear check road bump that comes after an MMO grindfest to get that rare drops. Speaking as someone who played a lot of Everquest years ago I have a history of that, and when I get EQ flashbacks something has gone terribly wrong with game design. I don't see the point of spending 4, 5, 6 hours grinding out Wither Skeletons to hopefully get the Three Skulls only to have a boss that you can steam roll because in commiting Skeletal Genocide, I've got the experience to make a full protection set of Diamond armor. And while I've heard this called "cheating" if I can spawn him anywhere I'm spawning him in an obsidian room I built and whacking him about the head repeatedly since letting him fly around spitting skulls while I've gotta aim a bow seems silly to me if I put him in a box. I've no idea if I'm in the majority, minority, or what on this boss, but it isn't hard to kill and it isn't even interesting to kill, it's just asking to be a troll boss if released on multiplayer servers.

Nah, this world was made in 1.3.2 with no mods and no snapshots. I found a Stronghold following the Eyes in the direction suggested by JJPro though, so it works, just was a really weird happening is all.

Thanks a bunch, I'm just glad it's repeatable, so I know it's not something going funky with my game. I'll follow the one you suggested

posted a message on Eye of Ender Question
    Hello there all,

I just decided in my SSP world that it was time to go find my first Stronghold, as it's one of the few things I've yet to do in Minecraft. The issue comes that I was traveling through an Extreme Hills Biome and suddenly my Eye of Ender changed direction completely. It was going fairly due East, when I got to the top of a mountain it suddenly started going to the North-West. I at first thought that I had found my Stronghold already and started to toss the eye around the area to get it to go into the ground, well it never did. What it seems to be doing is that if I am up high in the sky it wants me to go North-West, but if I tunnel through the mountain and keep near sealevel it continues to point me East. I was just wondering if this was a glitch, if height matters for the Eye to determine the closest portal, or what is going on.

If anyone else wants to see if they can replicate this, here's my seed and the location of the weirdness is at.

    Seed#: 7277288172329769142

    X: 390
    Z: -2

    Y>86 goes to the NW
    Y=<86 goes to the East

    Thanks all for any input.

    Vechs,

I've now played and completed about half of your Super Hostile Maps, jumping around to ones that pique my interest, and I gotta say I love to hate your maps. I've always found Minecraft combat atrocious, so it was a chore in my first attempts at them until I realized I don't have to play these like normal games. It's fun tunneling around and disabling the traps and whatnot, moreso than fighting is for me at least. I think my favorite of yours is Infernal Sky II, I found so many of those visual breathtakingly wonderful. Also the SMB3 nod with the one area made me so happy I drug a friend over to show it to as well.

I have to say I'm mixed on Lethamyr so far, I guess my problem is that so many of the other maps each wool area feels completely unique, but in this if I have to stumble over another boxy stone brick dungeon I might console in some TNT, heh. Otherwise, I think it's a wonderful change from the others I've played. I always found that the lack of purpose in Minecraft hindered it somewhat for me, I realize many many many people disagree with me there, so having a wonderful purpose to my Survival is awesome. I really am glad that I stumbled over your creations though, I've spent hours and hours in each one, and the ones that I do complete I then fly around in Creative mode to just look at all the wonderful visuals and creations and traps, which in itself is an accomplishment. So thank you so much for taking the time to make some of the best maps I've seen done in Minecraft.

    Sea of Flame 2: Completed
    Infernal Sky 2: Completed
    Kaizo Caverns: Completed
Canopy Carnage: Halfway Completed (Got utterly lost and couldn't find more Wool)
    Sunburn Islands: Completed
    Spellbound Caves: Completed

Now a quick question to the community.

I am on Variant B of Lethamyr, and have scoured most of the continent I feel, but have no clue where to look for the Red and Black wool locations. Any hints would be awesome, hopefully all I need is a nudge in the right direction. Thanks all.

posted a message on [ADV][PUZ] Isolated Mansion (Fear the Darkness...)
So, I've no idea if I'm just unlucky or what, but so far I've found two bugs/problems.

    1. In the very beginning I cannot get the trapdoor to open to get out of the area under the fountain unless I destroy blocks.
    2. I got into the mansion and found what looked like an ampitheater of wooden stairs, dropped down, and found two closed iron doors, but there was a gap that I fell down into with all this redstone, followed that and ran into a full fledged ravine, and I have a hunch I'm not supposed to.
Also, is the left half of the mansion supposed to explode randomly? I ask because it seems like a lot of actual items are in the bedrock hole that forms, so I am curious if I'm missing something there as well.
All this was in my first 5-10 minutes of playing, I just started and ran into this.

Can't comment too much about the map yet as I have not been able to get anywhere.

I have not yet managed to do it, I got up one of the sides after I posted and discovered that they were a diversion, so far I've managed to scramble up to the Left and Right sides as you enter, and found them to both be dead ends. I have literally turned off everything in Minecraft and as much other stuff on my computer and I still ocassionally get stuck in the floor or don't see a block coming, but I think now it's just memorizing the pattern and executing.

Just Downloaded and ran through this. With the exception of the Puzzle that's you state to do last, I breezed through figuring them out, was rather enjoyable though.

My problem with the last puzzle, was not the difficulty. Even with all the settings reduced I couldn't get rid of enough lag to even attempt to run the course, not sure what there is to do about that, not like my computer is a slouch, but it was aggravating none the less. Perhaps a way to shut off the courses you aren't trying to run? I think I figured out the patterns, but can't seem to make the jumps from the lag delay, and this is on SP.

posted a message on Question about Locked Chests
    Quote from Ryukuyu

The mod probably spawned some lock chests, which are in the game. If you remember that on April 1 (or whatever day April fools day is) notch added the Locked Chest, if you found one and right clicked on it it would ask you if you wanted to buy stuff to make the game better. When you pressed on an item it would send you to a website where you could buy the stuff in theg ame there. When you tried to buy something it would send you to a disco like page saying something like "APRIL FOOLS!"

Well, I'm in 1.0, and they have actual stuff in them. I can open them, to see the contents, like a sword and some food, but can't actually take any of it. Not to buy it, it's just materials in a chest that I can't actually pick up. Never heard of that April 1st thing, just thought the Locked Chest was part of the mod.

I did some searching on both the internet in general and this forum in particular, but couldn't find this question answered. I was playing with the Millenaire mod and stumbled over some bandits. I killed them and went to loot their home, only they had their stuff in what apparently were locked chests. I broke one to get the stuff, but it didn't cough up the loot. How do I get their stuff out? If it isn't possible, that's fine, if annoying, but I couldn't find anywhere that answered how to unlock it for the loot.

It sounds like you added a list of type Short, rather than a Short. The dropdown is for lists; try clicking the button with the little red circle instead.

Thank you very much that was precisely it, awesome tutorial too by the way, really saved my butt when my computer lagged and I placed down my Zistonian Battle Sign in the Super Hostile Map I'm doing.

Hi, I'm completely new to NBTedit and really any kind of modding at all, so I may be missing something too basic to have been covered in your tutorial. I made it to the Adding Enchantments step with little difficulty, but now when I add these shorts, it doesn't look like what you have. instead of just id:0 and lvl:0 I have, "id:0 entries of type TagShort" and I never see the edit value menu when I double click, it just lets me change that it's called "id". Was just wondering if you had any idea what I did wrong.

    Thanks.

Oh, alright, I realize what I did now, I was looking in the bin folder, I didn't have any idea you could actually open up the Minecraft.jar file. I thought the .minecraft folder was what people were always talking about. After poking around at it for...well longer than my pride will admit, I figured that out. Mod works just fine, looks awesome, thanks again for making it.
