Minecraft Experience: I have been playing since early Alpha, mostly single player, but recently (past 2-3 months) much more multiplayer which I am enjoying.
Previous works (optional): A lot of large single player projects, like a huge medieval town, Airship/steampunk town, extensive redstone engineering (redstone powered bank), cathedrals and castles as well as some other projects.
Recently I have helped with projects on several servers such as 2 spawn towns, and 3 other large towns, airships, a large ship, a redstone bank, and the minecart system for a server.
Why do you want to play here: Many of the servers I have tried seem to have communities that are immature and have trouble working together. I am interested in a community that doesn't think it's funny to play hide and seek with a creeper inside of my house and storeroom. I like to work on large scale projects with other people and I am interested in people that are mature enough to work as a team.
What aspects of minecraft do you enjoy most (PvP,PvE,Building, etc): I enjoy building things with a purpose, so defensive buildings for pvp, engineering things (like cannons, minecart stations, any manner of redstone contraption) or castles, castles are nice.
What methods/materials do you use to make your buildings aesthetically appealing: I don't think that I use any one particular method, I like to vary the material type I use as well as make sure I don't just make straight walls, I add some decorations to them as well as patterns. I also landscape the surrounding area to add to the effect, i.e. I flatten and clear the area around a castle, while I would leave it natural near a cottage.
What makes you more suited to this server then the other applicants (this is your chance to distinguish yourself): I like to work on larger projects with other people, and I tend to stick with projects too. I listen to other people when they give instructions or advice (unless it involves playing tag with a creeper). I am also a pretty decent redstone engineer.
Post/link (pics or video) a cool project you have done: (not required, but highly helpful): http://www.wegame.com/view/misc-gaming-screenshot-by-daydreamin-2011-04-23-064254/
That is just a short couple of pictures (just click the button on the picture to go to the next one) of some of the things I have done, the large excavation was done all legitimately. The thing that looks like cobble, glass, and water is an automatic wheat harvester. Some of my other projects are on other computer (such as an item bank using redstone and minecarts).
Where did you hear about OmniCraft: I found it while surfing the server forums.
Your wall design is sweet, I just have one question, from my understanding of it there is a stone wall in between the fire and the wall. How will this light the spiders on fire?
Like any good Redstone Engineer I enjoy trying to make unique, different, or elaborate mechanisms and creations with the help of redstone. Quite often however, I run out of ideas about what different creations I could create. Sometimes I didn't even think something could be made with redstone, hence the purpose of this list. I will contribute what I can think of right now and hopefully others can make suggestions and help me add to the list. I suppose adding other contraptions (i.e. cobblestone factory) that don't use redstone would be fine as well. Also, when I get more free time I will dig up a guide for each of these (youtube video probably) that shows how to create it.
Doors opened with redstone levers/buttons/pressure plates
Combination locks
Automatic food server (using a dispenser)
Dispenser Trap
TnT Trap
Falling Blocks Trap
Water/Lava Trap
Minecart Station
Minecart Bank
TnT Cannon
I will try to think of some more as time goes on and put up some links to videos for them, please contribute and I will add them.
P.S. I searched for this, but maybe my search skills are not so good.
I am interested in creating structures and cities with the help of others. I would like a server that is divided into cities and has an economy of some sort, that is crucial for me. A small server would be nice, as well as a relatively new one.
I love this thread and I intend to make a fortress/citadel with all the defensive deatures, however, I had several ideas.
The first is an improvement on door drap design. Placing sand and then lava above the door is quite clever however I have another idea, it is kind of hard to explain, so just look at this.

Then they destroy the door:

I hope you get the idea, here it is in action, this is just a quick mock up that I made to get the idea across, obviously where I put glass you put wall material, I just did that to show you.
I also had another idea about attacking bases and over walls. It is quite simple to create a 1x1 bridge over any wall or obstacle, like so:
However, difficulty arises in moving any number of troops across it, and getting them down without putting your forces at a serious disadvantage by having to jump and losing large portions of health. I have solved both of these issues. First, how do you move troops down a straight drop, rapidly, without a loss of health. I (on my own but I am sure others have first of course) have discovered that if you are in a minecart and you fall you will not take fall damage. This is key, by placing a little bit of track on your 1x1 bridge you can give your cart a little push, hop in, and drop as far as you please and not take any fall damage.
The second problem comes up, how do you move large numbers of troops with this system? The short answer is, you don't. My idea is that a small, crack team outfitted with the best gear (diamond) would use this system to enter the enemy stronghold. They would then use the cover of a nearby building or by using droppable walls (gravel/sand) to cover them for a short time they could dig down, create a small cavern and then bring in the rest of the force. How do they "bring in the rest of the force"? With my final idea:
By moveing a large group of troops into the Nether and then destroying their entrance portal you could (in theory) transport them out of the nether by creating a different portal somewhere else. This would allow for the bulk of your forces to bypass the enemy defenses entirely and arrive ready to fight inside the enemy base.
This can be applied in a number of different situations. By having just a few soldier scattered around key areas you could hypothetically move a large force across entire Minecraft maps in a matter of seconds. This would allow armies to be very moble and respond to situations very quickly.
The idea of using mobs to defend your base is quite brilliant, however, how do you ensure a large enough spread of mobs? What I mean is how do you channel enough to all the sides of the fort?
I am rather curious as to how Wise Guy's system would work and what he has planned *ponder*
As to the idea of a water roof, people could just swim up it, couldn't they? Unless I misunderstand the idea.
As for just building a big bridge to get past obstacles: I mention that in my first post, any defense could be overcome with a huge noob bridge in a matter of moments.
Please Note: When talking about Minecraft fortifications one has to make the simple rule of honor that neither you nor the opposing team will use the ability to quickly create dozens of entryways over battlements with the use of 1x1 towers or similar methods. Even the most elaborate fortifications can be easily overcome by the ability to create a bridge over the obstacle in a matter of moments.
Obviously with more and more work being done on SMP there will be more and more servers making pvp available and hopefully for and more that feature sides and larger scale conflicts. The issue arises when people try to store their stuff in these servers. Obviously whenever you log off what you have in your inventory is hidden as well, however, you will not be able to carry everything around in your inventory all the time, especially in larger scale pvp "wars". At this point you have several options: build your own secret hiding spot/house: This might work for a time, and if it is just something like a chest buried in a certain location than it may work for a long, long time, but where is the fun in that?
Your other option is to work together with other players and build a fortress, citadel, castle, whatever you wish to. Simply something with big walls and some people with pointy sticks at the top of said walls. Here the issue arises. How do you make player resistant fortifications? Obviously obsidian is your material of choice because anything short of that and even a stone pick will go through 10 layers of it like it was butter. Obsidian, however, will only get you so far, it will slow the enemy down, but it will not stop them for long.
I have experimented with a number of different things, from putting a lava core into walls, to having water run off the sides to drastically increase digging time and hopefully drown or force out the enemy. So far obsidian walls (covered in a layer of whatever material suits your taste) with water spawns position halfway up the walls seems to be rather succesful.

It is important that the water spawn blocks be positioned halfway to 3/4s of the way up the wall, otherwise the enemy will be able to simply swim up your handy waterfall entryways. This method does require that archers or watchmen be places on the walls to make sure no one is attempting to mine through from atop the water spawn block or block the waterfall.
Placing walls with Lava cores is actually a lot less efficient then I had initially thought it would be. Because when mining into the side of a structure like the one pictured blow the lava does not flow out, so it is easy to place blocks above and on either side of the sud hole to inturupt the lava flow. (I realize a similar method could be used for the water flow system, however that is on the outside of the wall and removing the water spawn block by placing a block or something like that is the same thing as building a big bridge over in my mind.) It does give an attacker pause for a moment and takes a few moments to find a work around for. It is concievable that if the interior wall space was large enough with a sufficient amount of lava in it, with large areas above and below where someone would be able to mine into the wall then you could block them off (this, however, could be countered by diging into a corner of the wall.

One method I have discovered that has so far seemed rather "airtight" is to build the fortification on water. If there is an area of 5 or so sqaures below the bottom of the structure, and it is filled with water, i.e. building on the ocean, than a single layer of obsidian is able to stop anyone from mining through before they drown.

Traps are another tricky issue, because while pressure sensors are rather obvious and easy to avoid, remote activated traps, tricks switches by doors, hidden tnt, collapsing floors etc... are all fun and viable asumming your enemy follows the buildings halls and rooms. If they go for the most direct approach, right through your walls, than your traps may become useless depending on how they are set up. For this part you will simple have to be creative.
Thats all I've got for now, please chime in with your thoughts, comments, or critique.
Ok, so the stuff you mentioned about Zombie Pigmen, i.e. you can build them shelters. Does that actually work? If you try to build them little villages will they come live in them? I realize this probably isn't true but it would be pretty awesome if you could go colonize the nether with your zombie pigmen villagers.
I'm not sure if this has been suggested before but a great new item for multilayer would be a bell. it would be very useful for those servers who are reenacting scenes from books and movies. it would also work for the ruins idea, whats better then a deserted temple with bats in the belfry.
