posted a message on Is Java still a security concern as of 2018?

Another exploit is if you're running some kind of server software on your computer... But this exploit isn't unique to Java... Any server software can potentially have exploits.

    https://www.noip.com/

You can go to noip.com and get a free sub-domain that points to IP that your ISP assigned you...

So... if your IP ever changes (your ISP randomly assigned you a new one... Or you switched to a different ISP), it doesn't matter... as long as you update your no-ip then your players will always be able to find your server.

You have an awesome computer... You can have A LOT of players on it...

But the limiting factor is going to be your ISP and bandwidth...

Can you publish a speedtest for us ?

That will indicate what kind of capacity you can handle.

posted a message on Looking for people to help with game ideas for game dev team

Are we talking Minecraft mini-game mods & plugins ?

...Or you're talking full fledged stand-alone games ? If so, what is your target platform ? i.e. web-app, native executable, phone-app ?

Personally, I would LOVE a World of Warcraft type game where...

    1) you didn't have to level-up

    2) Raids are completely random

Since the raids are random, you cannot simply lookup strategy guides... instead you are forced to work as a team and figure it out... Kinda like a team puzzle.

Oh... and minimal trash (if any) before the boss encounter... And if there is a little bit of trash mobs, then it would be to only serve as a hint for the up-coming boss fight.

You will need help designing millions of random raid bosses & puzzles.

So... If you don't level-up, then how do you learn your class ?

After character creation, you go thru an optional class tutorial -- I say optional, because you might already know how to play that class...

Then you take a solo-test in order to test your skills and get rated on how well you play that class.

If you don't like your rating, you can always go back & try again... or use it to practice.

Obviously, the test should gradually increase in difficultly and also be impossible to complete... Only rating & measuring how far you progressed thru the test.

    So... it's basically a Team-Puzzle-MMO.

You could probably get a Dungeons & Dragons license for it...

Or come up with your own branding.

The upside is that since you don't have leveling up, then there's NO WORK in creating all those zones, story-lines, & quests.

Once you create the tools, then it makes it easy for the Admins to pump out tons of different raid puzzles.

Also, a lot of people (like myself) got burnt out on WoW and took a temporary or permanent break... But I believe a lot of people might be inclined to come back to a new MMO... especially one without leveling that would be more friendly to casual players.

At peak, World of Warcraft had as many as 12 million subscribers... That's what ? $120 million per month in revenue.

If this idea isn't your cup of tea, lemme know... I can offer other ideas.

Derek Banas has 95 videos on Java and Design Patterns

He also has good playlists for UML, Object Orient Design, Code Refactoring, and Java Algorithms

He has over 300,000 subscribers and over 28 million views.

    He's really, really fast too.

After about 20 videos, you should have a good Java foundation... Enough to start practicing and feel comfortable too.

I didn't know it was a lobby. I thought it a paintball arena. ...I don't know if we'll use it, last time I was on, someone already did a pretty decent lobby.

    posted a message on * * * BUILD CONTEST * * *
Just wanted to let you guys know that this is a really great server to play on... There are no donation ranks... So the only way to get these ranks would be to participate in an event like this.

I also wanted to clarify that you don't have to perform the build on the server... If you've already done an awesome build on another server, or in single player, then you can submit those builds.

We're looking for an awesome spawn... And we're also looking for awesome Paintball Arenas.

My server is having a build contest for spawn and Paintball Arenas.

Submit your build (screenshots, description, & download link) to
    http://www.minecraft.../#entry17502999

There will be two winners chosen at the end of March... this is to allow plenty of time for everyone to participate and perform quality builds.

One winner will be chosen from the spawn submissions. Another winner will be chosen from the Paintball submissions. Winners will receive the Engineer rank... However, if we actually use your build for a spawn, you'll be promoted to a higher rank (VIP). If we actually use your Paintball Arena, you will also receive a higher rank (Sorceror).

If you're curious what we're looking for in a spawn, then read this forum post for more details
    http://www.rainbowcr...uilding-contest

If you're curious what we're looking for in an Arena map, then it might not be the right contest for you. But if you're determined, then research any FPS game (SOCOM, Call of Duty, Counterstrike) and check out their maps to see what makes a great FPS map... This will give you some hints and guidelines for what makes a great FPS map. Start with a theme (City, Snowy, Trees, Boats, etc) then go from there. For example, the Frostfire map from SOCOM US Navy Seals is actually an Oil Rig... That's the theme. Terminal from CoD is actually an Airport Terminal (hence the name)... That's the theme.

Start with a good theme and then design your layout... Remember: if your build too large then it can become boring because you can't find other players to fight. If your build is too small, then you might die right after you spawn, which is also no fun.

Primary game-modes to keep in mind are Suppression/Elimination (aka Team Deathmatch), Capture the Flag, and Demolition (Bomb). Maps should be made for 2 teams consisting of 4v4, 8v8, 16v16, and up to 32v32. Please do not make just one spawn location for each team because spawn camping is no fun. Please make sure to include a variety of spawn locations per team.

If you have any questions, just lemme know! Good luck!

There was an exploit (that I thought I disabled) where you could make an Iron Golem farm and get virtually unlimited currency while AFK. So for right now, i've changed the server currency to Iron Ore.
